PB hotel design editorial

At the southern end of Dublin's Grafton Street, where the city's most walked thoroughfare dissolves into the creative energy of the surrounding quarter, a six-storey red-brick building presents a facade that manages to feel both contemporary and entirely of its Georgian-Victorian streetscape. The Grafton Hotel, which opened in 2021 as part of the Autograph Collection, was designed with interiors by the Dublin-based firm Douglas Wallace, working across 122 rooms and a cluster of food and beverage spaces that each carry a distinctly different register. The guest rooms layer deep cobalt carpet in a gold-wave pattern against dark-stained timber furniture, channelled leather armchairs in cognac, and pendant lighting drawn from a mid-century European hotel idiom — the effect closer to a well-appointed private club than a corporate city property. Brass detailing recurs throughout, tying the rooms to the lobby café below, where a fluted dark-bronze service counter sits beneath an oxidised copper canopy, teal velvet tub chairs arranged on encaustic tile flooring alongside curved tangerine banquette seating. The ground-floor bar pulls in a different direction entirely — tiered copper pendants, burgundy leather bar stools with brass footrings, arched lattice millwork, and botanical-print occasional chairs — assembling something closer to a reimagined Victorian Dublin pub than a hotel bar, which in this part of the city is exactly the right instinct.

"This was our third stay at the Grafton Hotel and it did not disappoint. From the initial greeting by the wonderful, and energetic Concierge Noel, to seeing the kind and familiar face of Sebastian at check-in. The Grafton’s staff is what keeps us coming back. You will also meet Simon and Olga at the desk with their friendly hellos and Jay and Mustaff keeping watch in the lobby and ready to offer directions. Go into the bar area and you will be greeted and served by the sweet Paulina. The cleaning and maintenance staff like Liam, deserve to be recognized for keeping the Grafton shining. We are looking forward to our fourth stay. P. Rutherford and S. Malia USA"

"We loved The Grafton. Every single staff member we encountered was helpful and super friendly. Our room was spotless. It is in an excellent location close to many attractions, restaurants and pubs. We walked everywhere (except from the airport 😂). Breakfast (buffet) was included in our package and had lots of variety and was delicious and consistent both mornings. Would definitely stay here again."

"We just returned from our four-week Europe tour, and The Grafton Hotel was our first stop — and certainly one of the best! The hotel is clean, comfortable, and perfectly located, with everything conveniently within reach. I loved the beautiful fresh flowers in the lobby, which gave the hotel such a warm and welcoming feel. The rooms are lovely, with good sound insulation, and the bar has some really interesting and stylish decor. The restaurants were a little darker than I personally prefer, but that’s just a matter of taste. The food was also very nice, both at the bar and in the restaurant. What really stood out to us was the staff. Everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Our receptionist, Olga, was absolutely wonderful. She is such a kind soul and, despite being so young, showed incredible professionalism. She took such great care of our family throughout our stay and made us feel genuinely welcomed and looked after. Rei and Loren from the bar team were so lovely and friendly. It was always a pleasure having a chat with them while enjoying a drink. The concierge was welcoming and knew the town really well. We definitely missed the coffee from the lobby coffee station throughout the rest of our trip. The ladies there really know what they’re doing! Overall, The Grafton was a fantastic first stop on our European adventure. Thank you to the whole team for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable. We would definitely return!"

"Our family of eight had a lovely stay at the Grafton hotel Dublin for three nights. Excellent location, walking distance to St Stephen’s green, the Gaitey theater, great restaurants and the cathedral’s. Gary our concierge was welcoming and friendly from the start and delighted the children with chocolates! The other concierge, Noel showed genuine interest in helping our family get taxis and anything else we needed. The staff was personable, friendly and bunkbeds for the kids was a plus. The kids are asking if we can come back. Thank you!!"
