PB hotel design editorial

Merrion Square sits at the heart of Georgian Dublin, its red-brick terraces and iron-railed gardens forming one of the most coherent pieces of eighteenth-century urban planning in Europe — which makes the creamy limestone facade of The Leinster, purpose-built in a quietly confident contemporary classicism, an interesting proposition. Arched arcades at street level, a grid of steel-framed windows above, and a glazed rooftop addition set back from the parapet line give the building a layered verticality that acknowledges its surroundings without deferring to pastiche. The interiors carry a different energy altogether: bold red velvet headboards upholstered in large-scale botanical prints, spotted dalmatian-patterned carpets, crimson club armchairs, and fringed pendant shades in cream give the rooms the atmosphere of a well-dressed private house rather than a chain hotel. The rooftop bar arrives in full maximalist colour — walls, banquettes, and ceiling lacquered in a deep cinnabar red, teal velvet barrel chairs pulled up to honey-toned marble tables, and a cascading amber Murano-style glass chandelier overhead. The restaurant one floor up takes a different tack, olive trees planted directly into the floor anchoring a space dressed in tan leather dining chairs, aged timber ceiling panels, and hexagonal pendant lanterns — the effect is closer to a Mediterranean courtyard brought indoors than to a conventional hotel dining room. Taken together, the public spaces move through registers with considerable confidence, the exterior's restraint giving little away about the theatrical warmth waiting inside.

"We had the most incredible experience at The Leinster Hotel for our wedding, and we cannot thank the staff enough for making our day so special. From start to finish, everything was absolutely outstanding. The rooms were truly fabulous — luxurious, comfortable, and beautifully finished, making our stay feel extra special. A huge thank you to Ben, the head chef, who ensured the dining experience was absolutely exquisite. Every dish was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented, and so many of our guests are still talking about the food. Mara at reception was another standout — so welcoming, professional, and genuinely friendly. She handled everything with such grace and made us feel completely at ease. Last but certainly not least, Kaela, our amazing wedding coordinator, went above and beyond from the moment we booked right through to the very day of the wedding. Her attention to detail, professionalism, and genuine care ensured everything was exactly as I had hoped for — and more. She truly made the entire process stress-free and enjoyable. We also want to mention the waiting staff, who were all so friendly, attentive, and fantastic at their jobs. Their service added so much to the overall experience. We had an absolutely amazing day and will always be so thankful to the wonderful staff at the Leinster for making our wedding unforgettable 🤍"

"Myself and a friend stayed at The Leinster as a pre Christmas treat for one night at the end of November. On arriving, it is very small, with little to no room at reception. We stayed in the Rico suite which was really lovely (but not 100% clean in the bathroom). Upon check in, we were informed that we need to book space if we wanted a drink. I thought this was a bit odd because normally as residents at a 5 star hotel, you would always have an option for a drink. We called down when we were in the room to request to book, they said they would call back but after 30 minutes when we hadn't heard back, we just headed out. We tried the restaurant (for a drink) but were told it was fully booked, we then tried the bar and although there were 6 free tables we were told we could only stay for 15 minutes (we actually only wanted half an hour). The person who greeted us was not very pleasant. We then went to reception to raise this issue and they could not have cared less. We left. The next morning, I went for a bath and the plug would not work, I did not bother calling down. The breakfast food and waitress were very good. We checked out and mentioned the issue about the drink again, there was a manager there who overheard but did not intervene with any comments. We left and were promised a bill via email, I am still waiting 3 days later. All in all, I would not stay again."

"Just arrived at The Leinster after a very long day. Allocated Room 214 which is a tiny, cold closet (roughly 10 foot wide 7 foot long.) I am not especially tall and in the bed my feet touch the wall with around 8 inches to the headboard. The door when opened touches the bed as does the window, from which there is a real draft. I complained. Receptionists were utterly indifferent, rude and kept telling me "this was the class I booked" as if I somehow chose this. I asked to speak to the manager and was told witb a shrug there was no manager. I booked through booking.com and simply did not think hotel rooms this small or cold could be validly sold. By far the smallest room I have been in in Dublin (much more so than the likes of Travelodge) unfriendly staff and actually uncomfortable. Trying to block the draft at present with pillows and towels. Avoid."
