PB hotel design editorial

Cliffside architecture on the Amalfi Coast tends toward the theatrical — centuries-old villas draped in bougainvillea, terraces cantilevered over vertiginous drops. Casa Angelina, perched above Praiano between Positano and Amalfi, takes the opposite position entirely. The building's white rendered volumes, stacked in a clean modernist sequence against the limestone cliff, carry the geometry of a Rationalist manifesto rather than anything Mediterranean vernacular. The facade presents as a series of receding horizontal planes, large casement windows pushing sea views into every room, a rooftop terrace rising above the treeline toward open sky. Inside, the commitment to white is near-total. Herringbone-pattern ceramic floor tiles, white-lacquered furniture, and linen-slip-covered dining chairs in the restaurant maintain a register close to a Mediterranean art gallery, interrupted by teak sun decks at the infinity pool and warm cherry-wood flooring in the dining room, where a pale green dado and the occasional piece of hand-painted ceramic sculpture introduce just enough colour to prevent the scheme from tipping into sterility. The 40 rooms and suites continue this discipline — Tolomeo wall lamps in the simpler categories, woven rattan headboards and oval wool rugs in the more generous suites, aquamarine throw blankets providing the one chromatic accent against the white. The Tyrrhenian Sea, framed through floor-to-ceiling openings on every floor, does the rest of the decorative work.

About

Sitting on the high cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, Casa Angelina offers a sublime slice of modern minimalism on the Mediterranean, with an emphasis on elegant simplicity and first-rate food. An airy refuge, the boutique 37-room hotel is a place where guests can rediscover the forgotten rhythms of long, drawn-out days and easy, lingering evenings. The hotel serves as a sanctuary, bearing a fresh, pared-back aesthetic and a white-on-white palette that accentuates both the sea and sky blues outside and the contemporary artworks on display inside. Understated chic is Casa Angelina’s design ethos, and subtle details are the raison d’être: everything is immaculate, from the comforting and pristine white Etro cotton sheets dressing your bed right down to the carefully placed garnish of garden-grown herbs on your plate.

"After many years of staying in some of the world's finest luxury hotels, we can honestly say that **Casa Angelina has earned a place on our extremely short list of absolute favorites**—alongside only two exceptional resorts in the Maldives and one iconic hotel in Dubai. That alone says everything. From the very beginning, every detail was flawless. The private airport transfer was outstanding. We were collected in a luxurious, exceptionally comfortable vehicle by a highly experienced driver whose professionalism was particularly reassuring while navigating the Amalfi Coast's famously narrow, winding mountain roads. It was the perfect, stress-free start to our holiday. Our room was simply breathtaking. Designed almost entirely in elegant white, it felt modern, sophisticated, and immaculately maintained. Everything looked and smelled brand new. The panoramic view over the Bay of Naples was mesmerizing, and every morning we woke up to scenery that seemed almost unreal. The room was beautifully equipped with every imaginable comfort, while the luxury bathroom amenities were of the highest quality. The beds deserve special recognition. The mattress, pillows, and exceptionally luxurious bedding provided some of the best sleep we have enjoyed in any hotel. Combined with the peaceful atmosphere, every night was wonderfully restorative. Housekeeping was absolutely impeccable. The room was cleaned with extraordinary attention to detail every single day, often exceeding the standards we have experienced even in renowned five-star luxury properties. What truly distinguishes Casa Angelina, however, is its people. Every member of the staff—without exception—was genuinely warm, smiling, attentive, and highly professional. Whether at reception, housekeeping, the restaurants, or by the pool, every interaction felt sincere and effortless. Their hospitality made us feel not simply like guests, but genuinely welcomed. The pool overlooking the bay is another highlight. Peaceful, elegant, and perfectly maintained, it offers spectacular views that make it difficult to leave your sunbed. Breakfast each morning was exceptional. Every product was of the highest quality, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. Fresh local ingredients, outstanding pastries, excellent coffee, and attentive service made breakfast something we looked forward to every day. Dinner at the hotel's all-day restaurant was equally impressive. The menu offered a wonderful variety of beautifully prepared dishes, all enjoyed on a magnificent terrace overlooking the sea. Every evening combined excellent cuisine with one of the most romantic settings imaginable. But the true masterpiece of Casa Angelina is undoubtedly the fine dining restaurant on the fourth floor. Dining there is not merely dinner—it is an unforgettable culinary journey. Chef **Leonardo** is an extraordinary artist. His tasting menu is filled with delightful surprises, and every course is a masterpiece, beautifully plated and perfectly balanced. Many ingredients come from local fishermen and regional farms, allowing the authentic flavors of the Amalfi Coast to shine. Every dish feels personal, creative, and thoughtfully composed. Watching the sunset while enjoying this remarkable experience high above the bay creates memories that will remain with us forever. We firmly believe that Chef Leonardo's cuisine would satisfy even the most demanding international gourmets. Quite simply, **life is worth living for moments like these.** Casa Angelina is not just one of Italy's finest hotels—it is one of Europe's true luxury gems. With only around 30 rooms and an adults-only atmosphere, it offers a level of tranquility, intimacy, and romance that is increasingly difficult to find. It is the perfect destination for couples seeking elegance, privacy, and unforgettable experiences. Hotels like Casa Angelina become dreams you long to return to. Places like this make everyday hard work worthwhile because they give you something extraordinary to look forward to—the next romantic stay overlooking one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. Our stay exceeded every expectation we had. Congratulations to the management, Chef Leonardo, and every single member of the team for creating something truly exceptional. We cannot wait to return."

"A funky modern hotel with fantastic sea views from the restaurant, bar and pool, plus a garden area and access to the sea via 'a few' steps. Well staffed with very friendly people, a great evening restaurant as well as a great wine selection. The pool area is lovely and the gym is also very good. We wish we could have stayed longer."

"We could not have asked for a more attentive, engaged and caring staff. From arranging for a doctor visit, or miraculously getting us “Fast Pass” at the airport ( our driver was 45 minutes late) without which we certainly would have missed our flight or the very least, gotten separated from our luggage. In so many instances, from house keeping, to dining, to the concierges desk, the team at Casa Angelina exceeded our expectations resulting in the most elevated and enjoyable hotel stay we have ever experienced. Well done! We hope to visit with you again, in the mean time, we are “raving fans”, encouraging anyone considering a visit to the Amalfi coast to plan some of their stay at Casa Angelina."
