PB hotel design editorial

Carved directly into the vertiginous cliffside above Positano, where the SS163 Amalfitana winds between rock face and sea, Hotel Le Agavi claims one of the most dramatically positioned sites on the entire Campanian coast. The property cascades down the hillside in a series of terraced volumes — stone retaining walls, pergola-shaded dining terraces, and a pool deck cantilevered over the water far below — with Positano's chalk-white and terracotta village tumbling toward the beach in the middle distance. The pool itself is among the hotel's most distinctive gestures: an organically shaped basin with a mosaic floor of swirling teal and indigo waves, more artwork than amenity, backed by painted archways that carry the fluid motif onto the surrounding walls. Inside, the interiors move between two registers depending on the room category. The standard accommodation holds to a lighter, more traditional Amalfitano palette — pale ceramic floor tiles, arched French doors opening onto iron balconies, rattan chairs in powdery blue, the sea filling every window. The renovated suites take a more theatrical position: deep cobalt button-tufted headboards rising in full arches to the ceiling, Vietri-style encaustic floor tiles in navy and white geometric patterns, and curtains with bold colour-blocked hems. The restaurant's circular dining room draws the scheme together most confidently, its arched sea-facing windows framing the Tyrrhenian horizon while gilded elliptical ceiling medallions catch the afternoon light above white-draped tables and cane bistro chairs on jade-green majolica-tiled floors.

"We spent four nights at this wonderful, luxurious hotel. All the rooms have their own outside terrace with a view over the bay and Positano itself - ours was reached by an internal funicular railway so every time we left the room, or returned to it, it was like an adventure! The rooms are scrupulously clean, serviced twice daily and private. The reception staff were amazing. Elizabetta was helpful with everything and, although I single her out, to be honest, everyone at the front desk was friendly, professional and coped graciously with our many questions or restaurant reservation requests. The hotel is (thankfully, in my opinion) just on the outskirts of Positano so you feel that you escape from the throngs of people/motorcycles/cars which made this small beautiful town throb every day. The hotel was quiet and peaceful. We didn't use the spa but it did have a lovely pool. The view from the restaurant was amazing and breakfast was excellent. The hotel has a hourly minibus service so you can pop in and out of the town as you wish."

"The Le Agavi is a beautiful hotel with amazing views of the Mediterranean. Every room has a private balcony with furniture. Although our room was not large, it was spotless with all the amenities including safe, minibar, hair dryer, and a large closet. We were there from October 4-7, 2025, as a part of a small Tauck Tour. The hotel staff were excellent particularly the Concierge. Our luggage was left behind by the airlines and staff went out of their way to make contacts with the airport in Naples to have it delivered once it arrived from the States. They were so courteous and so helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts including pastries, fresh fruit, coffee and specialty coffees as well as scrambled eggs (that were very good), sausages etc. The shuttle bus to the town was very reliable and on time. We at dinner at the onsite restaurant, Remmese, and the sea bass, fillet, pasta entries and sides were all delicious. Because it is built on the side of a cliff, there are steps but elevators as well. Staff showed us how to use the elevators as you had to go down a floor, go to the elevator across the hall and down or up to get to the floor you wanted but this is necessary since it is on a cliff, but it is easy to navigate once shown. We had a most enjoyable vacation there and would definitely return."

"Le Agavi is absolutely stunning. It’s perched high above Positano with panoramic views that take your breath away. Every room offers a spectacular outlook over the coast, so sitting on your balcony in the morning while sipping espresso, you feel like you’re a world away. The restaurant is excellent, with delicious food and an atmosphere that perfectly captures the magic of the Amalfi Coast. We had a lovely dinner and wine pairing. Service throughout the property was warm and seamless. The convenient shuttle into town made exploring Positano effortless. From start to finish, our stay at Le Agavi was exceptional. I truly hope I can return again."
