PB hotel design editorial

Carved directly into the vertiginous cliffside above Positano, where the SS163 Amalfitana winds between rock face and sea, Hotel Le Agavi claims one of the most dramatically positioned sites on the entire Campanian coast. The property cascades down the hillside in a series of terraced volumes — stone retaining walls, pergola-shaded dining terraces, and a pool deck cantilevered over the water far below — with Positano's chalk-white and terracotta village tumbling toward the beach in the middle distance. The pool itself is among the hotel's most distinctive gestures: an organically shaped basin with a mosaic floor of swirling teal and indigo waves, more artwork than amenity, backed by painted archways that carry the fluid motif onto the surrounding walls. Inside, the interiors move between two registers depending on the room category. The standard accommodation holds to a lighter, more traditional Amalfitano palette — pale ceramic floor tiles, arched French doors opening onto iron balconies, rattan chairs in powdery blue, the sea filling every window. The renovated suites take a more theatrical position: deep cobalt button-tufted headboards rising in full arches to the ceiling, Vietri-style encaustic floor tiles in navy and white geometric patterns, and curtains with bold colour-blocked hems. The restaurant's circular dining room draws the scheme together most confidently, its arched sea-facing windows framing the Tyrrhenian horizon while gilded elliptical ceiling medallions catch the afternoon light above white-draped tables and cane bistro chairs on jade-green majolica-tiled floors.

"Location was great like being in a separate town inside of Positano . Breakfast was great every morning on the restaurant terrace. Beach club was great and taking the fenicula was a great experience staying there. Pool was great and perfect views.Wish we stayed more than 2 days but it was an unexpected trip. Rooms have nice sea views with balcony. Loved having a shuttle to take us to and back from town. Front desk was very friendly and helpful. Hope to be back soon."

"We stayed 3 nights at Le Agavi, in the Junior Suite room. I wanted to propose on this trip and Le Agavi arranged everything beautifully for it. The room was gorgeous. First a surprise room setup with roses, wine, decorations, photos of us. Then a private sunset cruise boat ride where I proposed with Positano in the back (skipper took the video in discretion). Of course champagne included. The hotel is in a little bit far from the village center but that allows the view to be breathtaking. There is a free shuttle taxi to the city and back every hour that makes this a no-issue. Highly, highly recommended."

"Le Agavi is a magical place. The way it’s built within, above and below the cliffs makes it the most interesting vertical hotel. Don’t worry about carrying your luggage as the energetic staff gladly takes care of it for you. We had just come from Gstaad, Switzerland for a week where I played in a tennis tournament. I had lots of luggage and backpacks, rackets etc. But no problem for these men!!!🤩 The room was very well appointed and we loved the mattress and the Sferra linens. Luxury! The bathroom is also a very nice size. We had two terraces off our room. One completely shaded (in a cave so to speak) with a round table and two chairs and a second one a few steps up with two lounge chairs along with another round table and chairs. And of course an umbrella! The views are absolutely breathtaking all day, all night. Several mornings we opted for breakfast on our 1st terrace which was delightful and delicious. The fresh fruits were unreal. We had a wine tasting one afternoon and loved it! Our dinner at La Serra was incredible. A Michelin star for sure. One night we ventured down the cliffs to Remesse and had a romantic yet casual and delicious meal. Getting there is almost mischievous feeling. You take the funicular down followed by a short walk to an elevator then through a long gorgeous tunnel to get to the private gates and then you’re there! It’s so fun to explore all the sides of the cliffs so you need to plan on doing that. Everywhere you look, there’s a cranny with a fantastic piece of art there. The pool is popular and the bartender there is great. We really loved the bartender on the lobby floor, what a gem! We didn’t try a spa service but certainly felt pampered by everyone else. My one negative and disappointing experience was forgetfully leaving my small gold hoop earrings (Roberto Coin) on a doily next to the bathroom sink when we went up for breakfast. When we returned they were gone. I reported this immediately without resolve. It was my mistake for not putting them in the safe but shame on the staffer who helped themselves. I would still go back in a heartbeat as we loved everything Le Agavi had to offer. I particularly liked being up the cliff away from the promenade and crowds. It’s an easy shuttle down and back. I highly recommend Le Agavi. And make sure you have Concierge Melania give you a welcome tour."
