The name itself, derived from the Latin for here one recovers health, carries a certain irony now, given that the property has long functioned less as a place of rest than as Capri's most reliably glamorous stage. The main building's white-painted pediment and arched ground-floor loggia, visible in the images, establish a civic presence that most grand hotels only approximate; here, the hotel and the piazza are genuinely inseparable, the cane-back bistro chairs of the terrace café spilling across terracotta paving in a scene that has barely shifted across decades.
