PB hotel design editorial

Pressed directly against the north bank of the Arno, with the Ponte Vecchio close enough to frame through an open balcony door, Hotel Lungarno holds one of the most covetable addresses in Florence — a position that its owner, the Ferragamo family, has shaped with the same editorial confidence they bring to fashion. Salvatore Ferragamo acquired the property in 1995, and the interiors carry a clear authorial signature: a palette of Arno blue running through striped carpets, houndstooth upholstered chairs, and panelled walls in pale duck-egg, all set against ebony-lacquered furniture and white linen bedding with fine navy ticking. The 73 rooms and suites across four floors feel closer to a private Florentine apartment than a hotel corridor, the proportions domestic and unhurried. The restaurant, visible in the images, deploys tall arched steel-framed windows to frame the opposite bank at dusk, fashion illustration prints hung in ornate gilded frames against white panelling — a slightly theatrical move that suits the Ferragamo connection well. Terraces cantilevered over the water are furnished simply, letting the view do the work: ipe decking, white-clothed tables, and trailing jasmine against the warm pietra serena facade. Throughout, the design avoids the temptation to compete with the city outside, trusting instead that a well-proportioned room with shutters thrown open to the Arno is argument enough.

"This is a very good hotel with some rough spots. Our room was small. The bathroom had a tub/shower that requires you to step up into the tub with no handrail to grab. For an older person, getting in and out is a challenge. For some inexplicable reason there are very few power outlets. I use a CPAP and I had to unplug the bedside light because there was only a single outlet near the bedside. For charging your devices you have to get down on the floor to plug in your charger. There is just one USB port on the wall next to each bed stand but they were so low amperage it took all night to partially charge an iPhone. We arrived early and after checking in we were told we would receive a text when our room was ready. We never received a text and after spending several hours walking around finally returned back to the hotel to find our room had been ready for quite some time. Very irritating. All in all, for what you get, this hotel is overpriced."

"We had such a great experience at Hotel Lungarno! Our room was clean and well attended to. The breakfast was extensive and fresh, daily. And you just can’t beat the location, in fact many, many vacationers stop by to have their picture taken from the property with the Ponte Vecchio bridge in the background! We were particularly well taken care of by the Bell staff, as we were traveling for 3 weeks and had tons of luggage. Belar was fantastic and so was every member of the staff."
