PB hotel design editorial

Perched on the hillside above Fiesole where the cypress-lined lanes of the Florentine hills give way to one of the city's most commanding panoramas, the fifteenth-century Villa Salviati was converted into Il Salviatino and opened in 2009 after an extensive restoration that preserved its Renaissance bones while threading contemporary comfort through rooms that have housed cardinals, Medici allies, and Romantic-era Grand Tourists. The five-storey whitewashed facade, articulated with pietra serena string courses and arched loggia windows on the piano nobile, rises above a sequence of formal Italian gardens — box-hedged parterres planted with lemon trees in terracotta pots, a shallow fountain pool, and stone-edged terraces stepped down toward Florence — a geometry that remains remarkably intact. Inside, the interiors mix periods and registers with the confident eclecticism of a private house that has accumulated rather than decorated. The library is lined in dark walnut shelving backed in deep teal, leather Chesterfield sofas sharing the floor with velvet armchairs in burgundy and cobalt against an Oushak rug. Guest rooms carry individual characters: one suite preserves grisaille trompe-l'oeil drapery murals in blush and grey across its full height walls, while another is washed in Veronese green with parquet underfoot and framed botanical prints above a bed dressed in matching silk. The long lap pool, set lower in the garden among hedged terraces and shaded by umbrella pines, frames the Tuscan hillside beyond in every direction.

"We were there in April 2025. The service was beyond excellent, the hotel and grounds were breathtaking, and the food was very good. I would highly recommend staying there and we will be back soon."

"The place is absolutely beautiful, down to every single detail. Breakfast on the terrace is unbelievable and the rooms are lovely. The staff are also incredible - in particular Klaudja who went out of her way to make our week special. We will be back"

"Phenomenal service, stunning interiors and grounds and easy access to the city. Our family of 5 wanted a retreat and special end to our time in Italy and this gorgeous historic hotel hit the mark! Only thing we were disappointed by was that the pool does not open til May 1."

"We chose this location to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived we experienced the most incredible service and gracious staff we have ever had at a hotel. It began with meeting Andrea, who helped us throughout our stay with our booking and was so attentive to our needs and the hotel manager Edoardo and Elena introduced themselves and warmly welcomed us. During our entire stay, we were in awe of the property and the exquisite staff. Luigi who manages the hotel restaurant went above and beyond for us. The hotel is privately owned, and it shows in the care placed in the staff and management that run the hotel. The historic villa is decorated exquisite and unique. The grounds and garden in addition to the plant selection inside the villa are beyond words. If we return to Florence, we will definitely book a stay here again. Beautiful memories that we will cherish forever!"

"We visited the Salviatino for an aperitivo, after some friends that previously stayed there this summer, suggested us the location. Since the moment of the booking Paul was super nice and as soon as we stepped in the hotel, we have been warmly welcomed Paul and Riccardo provided us with an amazing service and experience, food and drinks were amazing. We have been given a tour of the hotel followed by the explanation of the whole structure history. We will definitely come back and we strongly suggest this as the perfect place to stay in Florence or to go for a brunch on Sunday. The view it’s gorgeous, the quality of the food too and the people that work there are amazing. I have travelled a lot for work and I never had a positive and warm experience like this one. Thank you so much again to Paul and Riccardo."
