PB hotel design editorial

At the northwestern tip of Ischia, where the volcanic island's coastline breaks into craggy rock shelves dropping straight into the Tyrrhenian, a sixteenth-century Aragonese watchtower gave Mezzatorre Hotel & Thermal Spa its name, its silhouette, and its organizing logic. The crenellated tower — terracotta-rendered with cream limestone detailing, its Moorish-arched battlements visible in the images — anchors a sprawl of low whitewashed villas set within a pine forest that buffers the property from the rest of Foria entirely. The hotel's 55 rooms and suites are distributed across this compound, each category given its own interior register: some feature boldly patterned headboards in indigo geometric print against pale limestone floors and plastered arched niches that echo the tower's medieval bones, while others run to chartreuse-upholstered bed frames, patterned ceramic tile floors, rattan bistro chairs, and olive-trimmed curtains — a warmer, more overtly Neapolitan palette. The outdoor spaces make the stronger argument for the property's character. A pool carved into the rock above the sea is ringed with teak decking, blue-and-white striped umbrellas, and a thatched beach club pavilion furnished with director's chairs in striped teal canvas — utilitarian and unselfconscious in a way that most Italian resort pools are not. The cliffside restaurant, open to the sea on three sides beneath a heavy timber and thatch roof, takes the same approach: wood folding tables, striped cushions, no decorative excess, just the pine headland and open water doing all the work.

"A beautiful honeymoon stay. The food, service and setting was without doubt the best we had in Italy. The atmosphere and attention to detail was second to none. We would return in a heartbeat."

"Top shelf service, amazing mud wrap experience, great swimming in the sea/pool, and hot/cold tubs. We came here because we knew it was the same owners as il pelicano. The food is great (amazing breakfast buffet w à la carte on top, pasta at lunch at La baia, and dinner at La torre or baia). The service requires a conversation. It is truly excellent. Salvatore at breakfast and lunch, pascuale (who drive us in the mini car to the local town), the entire golf cart team, Maria who checked us in, the sea/pool team, and Nelo at breakfast were all amazing. The staff all take it to the next level. For instance, we asked for the room service menu be brought to our room. The person brought it and gave it to me and offered to review it w me if I had any questions. I don’t think anyone has offered me that in all my travels. It seems easy but that’s is how all of the interactions went. The person always asked the next question or offered some additional level of service. Swimming in the sea was amazing and the pool was great as well. There are plenty of seats but some ppl do place their stuff on the front row seats in the early am. But there r plenty of seats so it’s def not a must. The only “negative” that ppl should be aware of is that the hotel is built on a cliff. So there are many stairs. They do have golf carts and r very responsive. But even w the carts there r some steps that cant be avoided. The island is great w multiple charming towns. Enjoy!!"

"A stay at the Mezzatorre feels like stepping into a fairytale. Every corner of the hotel is absolutely stunning and thoughtfully designed. The gardens are spectacular, and the staff are kind, attentive, and no request is ever too much. Every meal was delicious, making the entire experience unforgettable. The beds were unbelievably comfortable, with the softest sheets of any hotel we’ve ever stayed in. It was so hard to leave, this was truly one of the highlights of our trip through Europe."

"Stunning location, excellent staff wonderful food. The rooms especially the bathrooms are small and are located some distance from the pool and restaurant restaurant. Buggies are available for transport if necessary, although this is not always convenient. I would definitely recommend the hotel for a romantic stay.."
