PB hotel design editorial

White stucco and sea-green shutters have marked this stretch of Santa Margherita Ligure's waterfront since the Grand Hotel Miramare opened in 1903, its five-storey Belle Époque facade — wrought-iron balustrades, ornamental plasterwork, colonnaded ground-floor loggia — positioned directly above the Ligurian shoreline with the calculated confidence of an era that understood the grand hotel as civic statement. Stone-pine canopies frame the upper floors in the images exactly as they have for more than a century, the building's white mass sitting against the hillside vegetation with an assurance that more recent coastal architecture rarely achieves. Inside, two registers coexist without much friction. The older rooms carry inlaid parquet floors in a geometric checker pattern, Murano glass chandeliers, wrought-iron bedheads with scrollwork detailing, and marble bathrooms with pedestal basins — the full inheritance of Ligurian grand-hotel tradition. Newer accommodation pulls the palette toward warm taupe, introduces plain oak flooring and cove-lit diamond-relief wallcovering, and reads as a calibrated rather than transformative update. The pool terrace is the property's clearest success: a large outdoor pool edged in timber decking and ringed with cream-canopied loungers, palm trees reflected in still water with the Gulf of Tigullio opening beyond. The poolside dining room — floor-to-ceiling glazing, iron café chairs in teal-and-cream stripe — keeps that view in frame from every table across the hotel's 82 rooms.

"My decision to stay in Grand Hotel Miramare without having any prior referrals was a bit risky but eventually I didn’t regret it not for a single moment! For myself, true luxury is not just the facilities and the amenities being offered but most importantly the people receiving you and the specialization that comes for each department of this unique hotel. The service is so personalized and the attention to detail is in another level, I genuinely feel I am in my own house. My heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Toni Maida, Resident Manager whom I owe my complete gratitude for making my stay so rewarding and exceptional. Above all, extremely professional but without being distant to the guests and always willing to do the extra mile. His passion for hospitality and is evident in every aspect when interacting not only with the guests but also with the staff. See you soon my friend and thank you! Grazie di cuore, a presto!"

"My husband and I ended our honeymoon at this hotel and truly felt like we saved the best for last. The service, location, and amenities were all top notch. We felt extremely taken care of from check in to check out. We looked forward to the breakfasts every morning (the scrambled eggs are to die for) and always enjoyed chatting with the servers. The views are ones we will dream about until we hopefully return soon :) The hotel was clean, spacious, and smelled amazing. We bought both the candle and the diffuser to remind us of our wonderful time there. The gym set up was also a huge perk for us! It is a shared crossfit style gym, which could be challenging if there was a class going on, but we loved having access to all of the weight lifting equipment that isn't normally available at a standard hotel gym. The hotel's beach club is right across the street and was a wonderful, no-frills way to enjoy the sea. The staff will set you up with a lounger and towel but there is not lounger food/drink service like your typical European beach club. There is a restaurant within the beach club that you can sit down and eat lunch at. You can also order drinks at the bar to bring back to your lounger. There are clean bathrooms and changing rooms at the beach club also. You can easily walk into the town for shopping and restaurants. We really only needed a car service for dinner one night and when we tried a different beach club, otherwise, we were able to walk everywhere. PS Order the GHM Americano cocktail at the bar and thank me later!! It has ruined all other cocktails for me, it was so delicious :) There was also live piano music each night at the bar which was so lovely! 10/10 hotel! You won't regret staying here!"
