PB hotel design editorial

Built as a hunting lodge for the Austrian imperial family in the 1880s, the villa that would become Grand Hotel Fasano has spent well over a century accumulating the particular authority that only lakeside Lombard aristocracy tends to produce. The clock tower visible above the cypress canopy, the stone balustrades stepping down to the water, the terracotta rooflines half-consumed by mature palms and weeping willows — none of it was conceived for hospitality, which is precisely why it works so well as a hotel. The Pasini family acquired and converted the property, and their stewardship over successive decades has preserved its essential character: a private villa that receives guests rather than a hotel that pretends to villadom. Inside, the rooms navigate between two registers. The more traditionally appointed category leans into gilded headboards, draped canopies in ivory silk, tufted Chesterfield sofas, and wrought-iron coffee tables with frosted glass tops — the grammar of Italian grand hotel romance, executed with enough restraint to feel considered rather than theatrical. Lighter interventions in other rooms introduce pale upholstered headboards, powder-blue velvet benches, and botanical-print accent chairs that bring the palette closer to the lake itself. The lakeside terrace, furnished in teak with ice-blue cushioned seating arranged around mature palms, draws the two moods together — the historic fabric of the building held in easy conversation with the low shimmer of Garda stretching south toward Salò.

"Beautiful hotel in a great location. We got the Deluxe Lake View Room, and that was definitely the right decision, as the room was huge and had a stand-alone tub and a large balcony. We loved the outdoor bar and the cocktails were incredible. We met Rama the bar manager who came over to chat with us about his cocktails and he was the nicest guy. Also loved the restaurant manager. Swimming in the lake was one of the highlights of our trip, particularly with how hot it was, and we were so happy we chose a hotel right on the lake. We loved the location in general; it was quiet and peaceful, but we were still able to walk to the town of Gardone Riveria and to some other restaurants in the area. All in all, a wonderful experience with great atmosphere and great service, would love to return!"

"One of our best stays in Italy. The food, the staff, the room the property were all perfect. I have zero complaints. We stayed at GHF for 4 nights over July 4th weekend. It is located in a very quiet and quaint town, where you can walk to shops and restaurants but also feel secluded and tucked away. We visted Salo and Riva del garda which were beautiful but we preferred the privacy of Gardone Riviera. I wish I could write an extensive review about every single staff member that we met. The GM, the front desk staff and concierge were all very responsive, kind and always available. Malaika was very kind and even helped us with dinner recommendations when the concierge was busy with someone else. We had two small toddlers with us 2 and 1 yr old. I am very self conscious about my kids behaving badly or crying/screaming at meals etc. I know they can't help it but I also know that others would like to enjoy a meal without crying kids nearby. The hotel made sure we were ALWAYS accommodated with amazing children's meals, the waiters all checked in with my boys and made them smile. Mattia at the restaurant and bar was incredible and so kind. My husband was actually upset that we went to other hotels (lake como and dolomiti) during our trip and we hope to spend at least a week there next time!"

"We arrived here with great expectations of staying for 5 days in an Amazing hotel on the lake. We were celebrating my 80th birthday and our wedding anniversary . Unfortunately the hotel let us down immediately by giving us what is probably the worst room in the hotel. Avoid room216 ! It was very small , basic and although it had a balcony looking over the lake it did not redeem it. The bathroom was so small there was a 2 inch step into it which I tripped on immediately , the door opened inwards and hit the bidet and toilet. There was a tiny basin which had been cut out to allow the door to open. It was worse than any cruise ship we have ever been on .We complained and were told there were no other rooms available ! The Aircon didn’t work , nor did the TV. The bed creaked butWe had no choice but to use the room for 1 night. After much hassle the next day which was actually my birthday they told us they could give us another room but only for 2 days but then we would have to move again! After getting on to our London agent she confirmed that we would indeed have to move. Thursday came and we heard nothing and despite repeated requests . It wasn’t until 2.00pm that we were told we were moving . This room was fine , although I must say the bathroom room was still very small but at least had a sliding door. Had we been given the 3rd room initially there would have been no problem . It totally ruined the experience for us. It is a pity because the hotel itself is lovely . It is on the lake and the gardens and pool are beautiful . Most if the staff are delightful. Breakfast is excellent and in a lovely room . We ate one night in the fish restaurant which was only ok . The pool bar was good and the lunch offerings fine. It is a long walk25 mins to Gardone the nearest town. A taxi cost 20 euros each way . We thought it expensive to say the least , it takes 5 mins. That added 40 euros a night onto our evening meal. We could not understand why the hotel didn’t have a courtesy bus . . It makes total sense . It was such a pity and we will not be returning ."
