Claretta Petacci spent her final years here, in the terracotta-walled Liberty-style villa on the western shore of Lake Garda that would later become Villa Fiordaliso — a detail that hangs over the property with the particular weight of Italian twentieth-century history. Built in the early 1900s in the floral Art Nouveau manner that characterised Gardone Riviera's Belle Époque building boom, the villa sits at the water's edge in Fasano di Gardone, its pink rendered facade rising from a lakeside garden planted with cypress, cedar, and Mediterranean pine. A medieval-revival tower at the garden's tip juts directly into the lake, visible from the water as a kind of romantic folly that anchors the property to its Lombard setting. Inside, the interiors preserve the villa's original decorative fabric with conspicuous fidelity. The entrance hall carries a coffered and frescoed ceiling of considerable ambition — arched lunettes, gilded mouldings, and trompe-l'oeil colonnade work that belongs to the confident eclecticism of the Liberty period. Guest rooms are dressed in walnut-panelled headboards, damask wall hangings in gold and ivory, and carved antique case furniture; the bar lounge sets a tufted leather Chesterfield sofa against striped fabric wallcovering beneath a large Dutch-school oil painting in a gilt frame. The effect across the seven rooms is closer to a private palazzo than a managed hotel, the whole atmosphere sustained by an accumulation of period objects rather than any single decorating gesture.

Villa Fiordaliso Reviews

"We have just returned from a magical honeymoon at the Villa Fiordaliso, surely one of the most beautiful hotels on Lake Garda's exquisite shores. Steeped in history, the villa is an architectural delight, inside and out. The views are gorgeous and the restaurant world-class, but what makes the experience so wonderful is the staff, who make you feel special from the moment you arrive. The whole team are fabulous but we would like to give a special mention to Alessandra, Andrea and Eliana for their kindness, warmth and generosity. They are the soul of this amazing hotel. One day we hope to savour the intimate atmosphere of this unique place again, in the elegant Camelia suite with its stunning balcony overlooking Isola del Garda. Thank you for the indelible memories. "When I stay at a Relais & Chateaux property, there is a certain expectation I have of the hotel – a unique property in a lovely location, with amenities and décor equal to the high price tag one pays to stay a night at these properties. The Villa Fiordaliso had all these, although the modern design and furniture in our large room was slightly jarring when compared to the rest of the lush Italianate antique-heavy hotel. Unfortunately, for this hotel/villa, one can also add the persistent street noise that continues throughout the night of large trucks and whining scooters from its location next to a busy highway. This is annoying, but tolerable. However, on the weekends, there is an outdoor techno-music disco/nightclub that is located on the property at the Torre San Marco which blasts loud music with a heavy bass beat until VERY late night (think 3 am) into the early morning. When I voiced my complaint, the management pointed out the fine print in the email sent to my travel agent (which I never saw – so boo on my travel agent) noting the possible late night noise from their nightclub and/or events (weddings, birthdays, etc). As these events are very likely during the summer months because the location really is incredibly lovely, be aware that the nightclub will also be in operation and that sleep may be impacted. So buyer beware…read the fine print of your emails and avoid this lovely villa if you want sleep."

"This relais & châteaux property offers stunning views of Lake Garda - the Latin inscription in the mosaic floor of the lake front balcony « you think heaven has fallen here » evokes the lake view very well. Villa Fiordaliso is a beautiful historic hotel. Its waterfront seems ideal for a social event. The historic rooms are elegant, and well appointed. The hotel was extremely quiet. The Camélia room has a beautiful covered balcony from where to enjoy the lake. We did not dine in the restaurant, but enjoyed breakfast by the lake (under the canopy tent). We found one particular thing lacking at this hotel: a little hospitality. Tepid welcome. We were basically shown to our room. The room is a walk up to the third floor - we did not mind that at all, but should be noted for guests who may have reduced mobility."

"The Villa is beautiful in a small town. The staff and owners are politely professional and immaculately dressed. Everyone is warm and welcoming. Lunch and dinner are amazingly incredible. Sounds over the top because it’s that good. Lucked into an event with a great Italian band at dinner. Did not want to leave."
