PB hotel design editorial

Pietro Lingeri's Italian Rationalist building on Piazzetta Bossi — a quiet pedestrian square a short walk from Teatro alla Scala — was completed between 1954 and 1958, its grid of deep-set concrete frames giving the facade a measured, almost civic gravity. Casa Brera, a Luxury Collection Hotel, opened here in 2024 after a restoration that brought Patricia Urquiola inside to interpret Lingeri's bones in her own idiom. At street level, a planted entry pergola threaded with climbing greenery softens the approach, drawing the eye from the building's cool geometry toward something warmer and more domestic. Upstairs, the 101 guestrooms and 15 suites are finished in Fior di Pesco marble, its amber and violet veining carried in low half-walls that separate sleeping from bathing zones, paired with fluted walnut panelling and geometric tile rugs in blue and cream that carry Urquiola's characteristic fondness for pattern as structure. The bar and restaurant make the boldest chromatic argument in the building: a coffered ceiling lacquered in deep magenta, Pierre Jeanneret-influenced cane chairs cushioned in red, and a bar front in breccia marble all work together with a confidence that Milan's design culture licenses more freely than most cities. Above it all, the eighth-floor rooftop pool is edged in blue ceramic tile, its curved perimeter framing a panorama that takes in the orange-tiled roofscape of the Brera quarter and, on the skyline beyond, the glass towers of Porta Nuova.

Casa Brera, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Milan Reviews

"Casa Brera is a beautiful hotel in an unbeatable location, with excellent service and an elegant, understated luxury feel. The rooftop pool is peaceful and features very comfortable sunbeds, making it a great place to cool off after sightseeing. That said, the atmosphere is intentionally quiet and refined. If you’re looking for a lively rooftop scene with music and a social vibe, this may not be the best match. The clientele tended to be older and the overall ambiance was more relaxed than energetic. I found the room on the smaller side for the price. Likewise, the rooftop café and bar were noticeably expensive, even by Milan standards. Overall, Casa Brera is an excellent choice for travelers seeking classic, quiet luxury in a prime location. Brera is a gorgeous neighborhood and everything’s is steps away. Personally, I found that other boutique hotels in Milan offered better overall value for the type of experience I enjoy because I do prefer a more energetic ambiance. Otherwise the service here is five stars and everyone was very friendly and professional."

"It's been months since my stay, and somehow, this hotel still lives rent-free in my head. Some places impress you while you're there. Others stay with you long after you've checked out. That's exactly what this Luxury Collection hotel in Milan did to me. From the moment I arrived, everything felt effortless. The elegance, the atmosphere, the attention to detail, and the exceptional service created an experience that was far more than just a hotel stay. Every space felt thoughtfully designed, blending timeless Italian style with modern luxury. It was the kind of place that made me look forward to returning after every day spent exploring Milan. But what I'll remember most is how the hotel made me feel. Welcomed, cared for, and completely at ease. That's something no amount of luxury alone can achieve. I stayed here in January, and months later, I still find myself thinking about it. To me, that's the true definition of an unforgettable hotel. Thank you to the entire team for creating an experience that has stayed with me long after I left. I already know I'll be back. 🇮🇹✨"

"The hotel is exceptional! There is no better place, especially if you are interested in visiting the Scala and the City centre. Everything is more or less brandnew, the roof terrace is a beautiful retreat even in the summer heat. What stood out most though is the staff. One prominent example: as part of the Elite member appreciation week a risotto cooking class was offered. It proved to be a pure tasting event. However we had a great discussion with the chef and finally she took us to the kitchen to show us how she does the risotto, step by step. And finally she gifted us a pack of her favorite risotto rice. Now we can create these memories ourselves..."
