PB hotel design editorial

Facing Piazza della Repubblica since 1927, the neoclassical palazzo that houses the Hotel Principe di Savoia was conceived as a monument to Italian civic grandeur at a moment when Milan was asserting itself as the nation's commercial capital. The facade visible in the images makes that ambition legible still — seven stories of pale stone dressed with pilasters, arched loggia windows at the piano nobile, and iron balconies cascading with scarlet geraniums that soften the building's formal severity without undermining it. Dorchester Collection, which has managed the property since 1996, has sustained the original register across 401 rooms and suites through successive interventions that kept the grand hotel idiom intact rather than reinterpreting it. The interiors work in the language of restrained Italian classicism — panelled walls in warm cream with inset damask panels, walnut sleigh beds and Louis XV-style commodes, bolts of silk in magenta and gold animating rooms that might otherwise tip toward the too-correct. The Principe Bar, visible in the images, takes a different temperature entirely: dark mahogany millwork, amber backlit shelving, and leather bar stools give it the atmosphere of a 1930s transatlantic liner lounge, vintage film posters completing the effect. Below ground, the indoor pool is lined in cobalt Bisazza mosaic tile beneath a barrel-vaulted ceiling — one of the more considered spa spaces in the city, its geometry precise where the guest rooms above it are deliberately warm.

Hotel Principe di Savoia Reviews

"I recently stayed at the Hotel Principe di Savoia for a quick one-night business trip that included a corporate event, and it exceeded my expectations on every front. The Arrival & Atmosphere Despite arriving after midnight, the check-in process was seamless. The lobby is incredibly stylish and grand, it managed to feel surprisingly warm and friendly—a rare balance for a high-end hotel. The staff made me feel welcome immediately, which was much appreciated after a long day of travel. The Room: A Step Back into the good times The hallways and rooms offer a fantastic "vintage" vibe, transporting you back to a more glamorous era without feeling dated. The attention to detail is remarkable: * The Bed: Exceptionally comfortable; I had a great night's sleep. * The Linens: The towels were noticeably fluffy and high-quality. * The Layout: My only minor disappointment was that the bathroom featured a bath-and-shower combo rather than a walk-in shower (even though the style required a bath), but the overall aesthetic and comfort more than made up for it. Dining & Events * Breakfast: The quality was top-tier, featuring a wide selection of fresh, high-end options (many yoghurts to choose from) * Coffee: I spent time in the events room for a corporate function, and I have to mention the coffee—it was excellent and kept me energized through the sessions. Bottom Line: My only regret is that I wasn't staying longer. the Principe di Savoia offers a level of character and service that is hard to find. I will definitely be back."

"This hotel is old fashioned style and quality. There are lots of things to like. I had a great room, quite large and well appointed with a very comfy bed. The location is a bit out of the centre but there are plenty of trams and a subway line close by. Plus the hotel has a minibus which goes into the city. Valentina who greeted me when I arrived was particularly kind and helpful throughout my stay and provided all sorts of extras for me. The concierge staff were helpful and friendly as were the front desk staff. I was touched to be remembered by name by the breakfast greeter and I didn’t have to repeat my room number. Where it’s let down is in the door staff who were unfriendly and didn’t turn up when i ordered in advance a porter to help with my luggage. Given my room was a distance from the lift and included stairs this was disappointing, particularly as I observed porters helping other guests ( male) who didn’t look like they really needed help."

"My check-in experience was fantastic! I was greeted by Jérémie, a wonderful fellow who escorted me to my room and gave me a tour. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the pillow ensured I got my full eight hours of sleep. I also enjoyed a delightful breakfast. The friendly lady at the reception allowed me some extra time so I could take a swim before heading back to London. I’ll definitely be back this summer!"
