PB hotel design editorial

Across the street from Milan's Piazza del Duomo, where the cathedral's Gothic spires define one of Europe's most charged urban addresses, a postwar rationalist tower carries one of the city's more unexpected façade treatments: a large-scale geometric mural in terracotta, teal, and ochre wrapping its lower floors in a graphic abstraction that announces The Square Milano Duomo from a full block away. The nine-storey building, positioned at the corner of Via Silvio Pellico, delivers 119 rooms across an interior palette built around dark-stained macassar-effect cabinetry, pale oak flooring, and oversized padded headboards in horizontal-banded greige upholstery — a considered mid-market Italian modernism that keeps the rooms calm without stripping them of character. The ground-floor restaurant extends across tall curtain-glazed walls, its cream leather dining chairs and dark timber tables arranged in a layout that borrows its spatial generosity from the commercial interiors of the rationalist era — banking halls translated into hospitality. The rooftop terrace is the property's most persuasive argument: a retractable canvas awning shelters a long banquette-and-bistro-chair dining deck from which the green copper dome of San Alessandro and the new CityLife towers frame opposite ends of the Milan skyline in a single glance, making the elevation work harder than almost any other asset in the building.

The Square Milano Duomo Reviews

"A bit of an exaggeration but overall the experience was very good. Giving allowance for the language problem the initial encounter regarding the twin bed room was soon corrected by the management arranging a deluxe room. The room initially was very dark and smelt of cigarettes though it’s supposedly a no smoking hotel. Centrally placed the trams are noisy well into the night. The breakfast was sumptuous and had plenty of choice. The staff were very courteous and welcoming. The cleaners were good at their job. The towels and linen were clean and fresh every morning. Overall a good enough place to stay."

"Good location, with easy access to trams, metro and the Duomo. Room was ok (Exclusive Deluxe with Balcony), however, because it had a balcony it looked onto the roads and trams that appeared to run all night long. There was very little in the region of storage, just one drawer and some hanging space. Breakfast was very good and if I were to visit Milan again I would stay there again, however would request a room not facing the road"

"A nice hotel in a great location. Rooms are pleasant and of a high standard. Reception staff and greeting staff in lobby very friendly. Roof bar has great views. Marked down as breakfast experience not great - the one place where staff didn’t seem that warm and tables not cleared efficiently. After one morning of breakfast here we went out on the other days. But overall very good experience"

"A truly wonderful hotel. A short distance from the Cathedral and close to Metro. The hotel is very modern, smart clean, and well appointed. Our room, 106, was massive, the bathroom huge and so well equipped. The towels were soft and fluffy, the massive walk in shower had high pressure and endless hot water, good toiletries, anb bathrobes. The breakfast was extensive, relaxed and very good quality. The roof terrace and bar are also very impressive and very, very, popular with both residents and non residents so arrive early or make a reservation. The sunsets are glorious, the music Ibiza style, cocktails excellent although perhaps a little expensive but you are paying for the music, view, and free nibbles. Throughout, the staff, all staff, were so helpful, attentive and pleased to help. A credit. As you can guess I would love to go back."
