PB hotel design editorial

Somewhere between a working estate and a considered act of architecture, the hillside compound that became Casa di Langa was designed by Milan-based GaS Studio around a C-shaped plan drawn from the traditional Piedmontese cascina — the horseshoe farmstead form that has shaped this landscape for centuries. Opened in 2021, the 39-room property sits on 42 hectares of vineyards and hazelnut groves in Cerretto Langhe, its terraced piazza stepping down the slope in layers of locally quarried Luserna stone, recycled terracotta, and raw earth plaster. The gesture is quietly radical: adaptive reuse applied not to a crumbling palazzo but to an unfinished structure, pulled into coherence through material honesty and a plan that frames the rolling Langhe hills like a painting you keep returning to. Inside, Parisotto + Formenton Architetti translated that same restraint into rooms where bleached oak joinery, terracotta tile floors, and painted beam ceilings carry the warmth of the land without resorting to rustic pastiche. Four-poster beds in pale ash sit against generous windows opening onto the vineyard panorama; the restaurant sets a lacquered black ceiling against arched stone openings and bold contemporary canvases, creating an unexpected tension between the agricultural and the urban. The infinity pool extends the horizon in a single clean line, the Langhe dissolving into haze beyond. The whole property moves like a carefully edited sentence — nothing extraneous, nothing missing.

Casa di Langa Reviews

"We spent two nights at Casa di Langa and were impressed. This is not a traditional countryside hotel but a thoughtfully designed property that blends into the hillside, surrounded by vineyards in every direction. Despite having 39 rooms, it never feels large or busy. Our Classic Room was spacious, beautifully designed and quiet. The quality of the materials, comfortable bed and elegant bathroom made it a pleasure to return to after a day exploring the Langhe. If panoramic valley views are important to you, however, it is worth upgrading to a higher category room. The real highlight was the overall atmosphere. The terraced design, contemporary art collection and views create a sense of calm. The heated pool is not designed for swimming laps but more for relaxing and enjoying the landscape. Breakfast at Fàula was excellent: homemade bread, fresh fruit and local products. Dinner was even better. The farm-to-table philosophy is more than a marketing slogan here, and the quality of the ingredients was exceptional. The homemade ravioli with herbs from the garden was one of the best dishes we had during our stay in the Langhe. The wines by the glass, sourced from the owner's wineries, were also outstanding. Service throughout the hotel was warm, professional and attentive without ever feeling formal. Pros: Beautiful architecture integrated into the landscape Peaceful setting surrounded by vineyards Excellent restaurant and breakfast High-quality rooms and bedding Stunning views from terraces and pool Professional and friendly service Strong sustainability focus Ample EV charging facilities Cons: EV charging price was unexpectedly high Some premium breakfast items require a supplement Classic Rooms have limited views compared with higher categories Pool is designed for relaxation rather than swimming Casa di Langa is one of the most impressive countryside hotels we have visited in Italy. Stylish without being flashy, luxurious without feeling pretentious, and perfectly placed for exploring the Langhe wine region. We would gladly return."

"Barolo and Barbaresco are absolute must-visits for wine enthusiasts. The rolling vineyards are breathtaking, the villages are charming, and the food throughout the region is exceptional. Unfortunately, while this hotel has tremendous potential, it fell short in two important areas: the concierge/front desk experience and the accuracy of the room representation. During our recent two-week journey through Italy, this was the only hotel where the concierge and front desk were unable to provide meaningful assistance. Specifically with vineyard visits and restaurant recommendations. We were also disappointed that our Monviso Suite did not reflect the view shown in the hotel’s photos. There are only two Monviso Suites, and ours had a significantly less desirable view than the other suite in the same category. Thankfully, one member of the dining team and the General Manager both went above and beyond to help us secure several excellent winery visits. For the remaining appointments, we relied on our own contacts to make arrangements. The property itself is lovely. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the dining room serves delicious meals in a beautiful setting. With a more knowledgeable and proactive concierge team, and more accurate representation of the accommodations, this hotel could be truly outstanding. As it stands, it is a beautiful place to stay, but guests hoping to explore one of the world’s great wine regions should be prepared to do much of the planning themselves. As noted on the hotel’s website, the photos do not necessarily represent the specific room you will receive. In our case, the view from our Monviso Suite differed significantly from what was depicted."

"We had a nice time here. Piedmont is gorgeous and the location of the hotel is very nice. Overall the people were very nice. Front desk woman was a little icey for my taste however. Food was very good.I found the hotel design an odd mix of floors, steps and slow elevators. Tiny gym. No ste room. Need a reservation to enter the sauna? odd. If you go, two days is plenty. We booked four days and left after three. Won't be returning but it's a beautiful setting."
