PB hotel design editorial

Carved from a seventeenth-century Lecce noble palazzo deep within the historic centro storico, La Fiermontina Luxury Home turns one of Puglia's most architecturally rich cities into an argument for restraint. The conversion preserved the palazzo's defining structural logic — groined vaulting in creamy pietra leccese, pointed Gothic arches connecting room to room, barrel-vaulted ceilings whose warm limestone texture no amount of applied decoration could improve upon — and furnished beneath all of it with considerable confidence: low-slung upholstered armchairs in taupe and grey, brass floor lamps, minimal side tables, and carefully placed contemporary artworks that hold their ground against the medieval structure without competing with it. The garden, visible from above as a grove of ancient olive trees threaded with stone-set pathways and a limestone-coped pool, gives the property a spatial generosity unusual for a hotel this embedded in a dense urban fabric. At night, the outdoor terrace takes on a different character entirely — candlelit tables arranged around a large bronze figural sculpture, the illuminated city walls rising behind as backdrop. Inside, the double-height bar lounge introduces a livelier register: kentia palms in oversized ceramic planters, a glowing amber bar front, a mezzanine draped in trailing greenery. The 28 rooms across the palazzo bring together the building's structural bones with a quietly contemporary material palette that earns its confidence from knowing exactly what to leave alone.

"Looks fabulous but it just doesn't quite work. In the middle of one night the lights in my room suddenly came on several times and couldn't be fixed. Want to use the safe? You have to push 11 buttons (some firmly, some softly) in exactly the right order. Would you like milk with cereal at breakfast?. It never comes, just have yoghurt. Room too hot or too cold? Bad luck. And sometimes the water stops randomly."

"La Fiermontina offers a truly luxurious five-star experience. The hotel and the adjacent museum are an artistic tribute to the famous Antonia Fiermonte, who was the grandmother of the exceptionally talented owners, Antonia Yasmina and Fouad-Giacomo Filali. We stayed there for six nights in early May, and we immediately noticed that Francesca managed a courteous and professional staff. Maria, Danielo, “piccola” Francesca, and Erica welcomed us with open arms, truly making us feel like family during our stay. The on-site restaurant, the Zephyr, is worthy of a Michelin star. Every morning, we were treated to a breakfast menu (try the Moroccan eggs!) and an endless buffet by the friendly Sandro, Imon—my “Casawi” and Valentina our “tiny dancer.” Every afternoon, Mathias—my “cousin” and the “magic mixologist” Martina greeted us at the poolside bar with our favorite drinks and a light menu of food. They made our days relaxing after a long morning of exploring Lecce. In the evening, we were greeted by the sommelier, David, the always lovely Alessandra, and “the original” Alessandro. The menu was fantastic, with so many delicious options. Kudos to Chef Antonio de Carlo, and sous chef Giacomo, who expertly blended the flavors of Salento and French Morocco. During lunch on our second day, Lady Antonia invited us to stay in the “Nonna” suite on the second floor. It was a dream, with all the luxury amenities you could want—a full living room, bedroom with fireplace, large private balcony, a bathroom with separate tub and shower, two closets, a refrigerator, and a security safe. The staff was very attentive, keeping our room spotless with two visits each day. The resort had a beautiful pool and garden filled with trees and statues. The groundskeepers created a paradise bursting with fragrance. Our time at La Fiermontina was truly exceptional, and we can’t wait to return. La Fiermontina is like the “Hotel California” of Lecce; you can check in whenever you like, and you’ll never want to leave!"

"One of the best hotels we have stayed at. The rooms are light, bright and clean. The staff are unbelievably friendly and helpful. The breakfast offered so many options and was amazing. Location perfect. I can’t recommend this hotel enough and if I was ever in Lecce, I would definitely stay here again!"
