PB hotel design editorial

Carved from a monumental early twentieth-century palazzo on Via San Basilio, just off the Via Veneto in Rome's Ludovisi district, the building that houses the Aleph Rome Hotel carries its institutional past plainly on its facade — the inscription Dovere Virtù Sia Il Lavoro still cut into the stone above the rusticated ground floor, pilasters rising through two upper storeys to a heavily corniced roofline. The building served as the headquarters of a bank before its conversion into a hotel, and that civic seriousness still governs the exterior's neoclassical massing, while the interiors strike a deliberately different register: contemporary Roman glamour, all Carrara marble flooring, sculpted wave ceilings with cove lighting, and upholstered headboards in cream and greige velvet rising to the full height of each guestroom wall. The bar is the interior's most confident gesture — a backlit green onyx counter that glows with a mineral warmth, paired with cream leather stools and globe pendants suspended at varying heights over marble-veined flooring in pale grey and celadon. Artwork panels mimicking agate cross-sections hang between panelled walls in the same acid-yellow-green register, creating a space that feels less like hotel bar and more like a Roman jewel box. Above it all, the rooftop terrace plants mature olive trees in stone vessels alongside rattan cabana daybeds and white modular seating, with views that confirm the neighbourhood's quiet prestige.

"The Aleph Rome Hotel is in a great location, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the breakfast was outstanding and the roof pool was a wonderful treat."

"This hotel was amazing! When we checked our bags ( our flight from Boston arrived early morning) the staff was eager to make us comfortable even before we checked in, offering tea/coffee/cold drinks, a charge for my dying phone, recommendations of neighborhood points of interest, etc. When we did check in our room was lovely- king bed, honor bar, large bathroom and welcome treats sent by my family. The breakfast buffet offered absolutely anything one would want -fresh fruit, yogurt, variety of baked goods, eggs (each day there were at least three different egg preparations, freshly squeezed fruit juices, fruit smoothies, etc) The roof top restaurant was heavenly and the adjacent roof top bar was a final stop for us each evening. The concierge had great restaurant recommendations and would make reservations for any of the restaurants we wished. The staff was really special. We were continually greeted upon leaving and returning. They all were friendly to the guests and each other. Smiles all around. Housekeeping was both omnipresent (we returned to a tidied room during the day and turned down bed in the evening) and invisible - never had to wait to get back to our room. The rooftop pool was glorious. The location is ideal. We walked everywhere (Colleseum, Forum, Palestine Hill, Trastevere, Spanish Steps, Vatican, etc.) The only time we needed car service was to and from the airport. My only hesitation in recommending this hotel is fear that we might might be able to book it again when we return."

"Aleph Hotel has an excellent atmosphere and top quality staff. The rooms are wells rocked, comfortable, and luxurious. The hotel is immaculately clean, and well worth the cost of a Hilton Curio. Special thanks to Davide, Lorenzo, Claudia, Emmanuele, and the morning crew."

"Good value for a brief pit stop but you don’t want to spend any time here. Front desk is not helpful. Location is great though but not a true 5 star."

"This hotel was everything I hoped for, old world elegance updated for comfort. It also was within walking distance of so many highlights. The atmosphere and service were impeccable, the staff went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed from extra hot tea or water, a quick battery replace in the makeup mirror, to getting me a quick taxi on the spot. I splurged on the room with a terrace and greatly enjoyed the experience- even taking a nap outside in the hanging basket chair after flying in from the USA earlier that day."
