PB hotel design editorial

A sixteenth-century palazzo hard against the baroque facade of Sant'Giovanni dei Fiorentini, where the Via Giulia meets the curve of the Tiber in Rome's Ponte district, gives Hotel Indigo Rome St. George an architectural foundation that most hotels in this city would envy. The rusticated travertine base visible in the exterior image — massive ashlar blocks laid with the confidence of Renaissance builders — anchors a building that has worn many identities across five centuries before its conversion into a 64-room hotel. The pale ochre render above, the iron balconies, the grey-shuttered windows: nothing about the street elevation announces hospitality, which is precisely the point. Inside, the interiors lean into the city's visual archive rather than its antiquity. Large-format photographic murals dominate the guestroom headwalls — a close-cropped Baroque angel fragment in monochrome in one room, a battered teal Fiat 500 bearing a Roma registration plate in another — grounding each space in a particular mood of the city rather than a generalised Roman grandeur. Herringbone parquet floors and simple upholstered furniture keep the surroundings from competing with the imagery. The rooftop restaurant terrace, framed by climbing greenery and retractable awnings, opens toward the Gianicolo with the relaxed formality of white-clothed tables set in open air, while the interior dining room below works warmer timber panelling under a glazed coffered ceiling, the whole lit by what appear to be Flos table lamps in tomato red.

Hotel Indigo Rome - St. George Reviews

"A very nice stay at the Indigo St George in Rome. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room, which had a balcony was excellent, everything worked! WiFi / TV etc, the mini bar touch is an excellent plus. Breakfast was very nice plenty to choose from. The location is great for visiting Rome, right by the river and in walking distance of most sights. We spent 2 days walking around a lot of the city, there is so much to see it will take many more trips ! It is not close to a Metro station so you do have to walk or get a taxi if the distances are a little too far. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby and in the hotel. All in all a really good visit."

"My first time at the Indigo St George after a recommendation and I couldn’t have been more impressed. Particularly as I was one of a group of 18 people. Great blend of character and modernity, perfect (quiet) location and above all every member of staff was delightful. They even managed to suppress their euphoria when we trudged home well beaten by Italy in the rugby! Will definitely be back :)"

"Have stayed in other Indigo properties - IHG Platinum Elite so brand loyal - but this is the best by far. The location is ideal. Tucked away off the main road but easy access to the Rome must-do's. 15min walk to the Vatican, 20 to Trastavere, 25 to the Colosseum. Hotel staff can arrange taxi's with prompt service. The Indigo brand is all about the local neighborhood and the decor and staff knowledge is spot on. We relied on the front desk for restaurant reservations, all quite non touristy, and had great experiences. All staff interactions were impressive - very good bartenders in particular. Decor to a high standard throughout the property. Very highly recommended!"
