PB hotel design editorial

A late nineteenth-century palazzo on Via Vittorio Veneto, just steps from the Borghese gardens and the American Embassy, carries one of Rome's quieter grand hotel stories. Hotel Splendide Royal has long attracted a clientele who prefer discretion over spectacle — a five-floor Liberty-style building whose pale stucco facade, dark-shuttered windows, and iron-canopied entrance give away little of what sits above: a rooftop restaurant with an uninterrupted sweep across the Roman skyline toward the dome of St. Peter's. The interiors divide into two distinct registers. The recently refreshed guestrooms — around 69 in total — work in a polished neoclassical idiom: white boiserie panelling, chevron-laid parquet in pale oak, tufted leather headboards and benches in ivory, and brass-armed chandeliers fitted with deep burgundy shades. Some suites retain original stucco ceilings and gilded baroque mirrors alongside heritage pieces in walnut and cherry, the mix landing closer to a well-curated Roman apartment than a hotel room. The rooftop dining room, Mirabelle, takes a sharper contemporary line — floor-to-ceiling glazing, mirrored buffet surfaces, white linen — framing the city panorama as the primary decorative act. Where the restaurant below leans into gilded Louis XVI-style chairs and draped silk curtains suffused in amber evening light, the breakfast room above strips everything back to let the view do the work.

"Restaurant and food fantastic, great staff especially the waiter Mr Wow. We had upgrade to balcony, not realy worth it as balcony is shared and you can't sit a chair on them as to narrow. Standard Europe plugs do not fit the sockets the socket holes are smaller, if you have the thinner pin plug from 1980's they fit. Shop 100m to the left of the hotel sell adaptor for €1.90 hotel sells them for €5."

"My husband, mother, and I stayed here in February 2026. I chose it as it's a part of "The Edit" by Chase. Booking through Chase meant we were eligible for an upgrade, which we did receive. My mother and we had adjoining rooms on the 2nd floor at the front of the building. The feature of sharing a door was very convenient! I was grateful for this perk. We also had a complementary bottle of spring water by our beds each evening. The rooms and bathrooms were good sized. The shower was quite large. The heated towel rack was an added bonus. The closet had more or less enough room to unpack for a week, but the only provided drawers were low down and not as convenient to use. The bed was comfortable and the heat/air was easy to control. The room, though on the road, was very, very quiet. The doors in our room were some of the thickest I've ever seen in a hotel! The nightlights to help you see your way in the dark were thoughtful, though we chose not to use them after the first day (they were a little too bright for me). Breakfast- included in our rate- was plentiful and varied enough for everyone to get what they wanted. Service was consistently top notch. Umbrellas were available for the one rainy day we had. The front desk got me a bag of ice when I needed it and ordered white taxis when we wanted them to go to dinner and the airport. Overall, I would definitely stay here again!"

"The hotel definitely deserves its high ranking and is well located in the city. We had a beautiful suite with bedroom, large bath, and sitting room that were above expectations! The staff was excellent and very helpful with directions, arranging transpotation, etc. with a smile and great attitude. The location was good with within walking distance of major attractions. (~35 minutes to the Colliseum and 45 minutes to the Vatican). The bar and restaurant require reservations but there are other very good restaurants within a 10 minute walk. The breakfast was excellent with a great variety including make your own mimosas, if you are so inclined. We highly recommend the hotel!"
