PB hotel design editorial

A late nineteenth-century palazzo on Via Vittorio Veneto, just steps from the Borghese gardens and the American Embassy, carries one of Rome's quieter grand hotel stories. Hotel Splendide Royal has long attracted a clientele who prefer discretion over spectacle — a five-floor Liberty-style building whose pale stucco facade, dark-shuttered windows, and iron-canopied entrance give away little of what sits above: a rooftop restaurant with an uninterrupted sweep across the Roman skyline toward the dome of St. Peter's. The interiors divide into two distinct registers. The recently refreshed guestrooms — around 69 in total — work in a polished neoclassical idiom: white boiserie panelling, chevron-laid parquet in pale oak, tufted leather headboards and benches in ivory, and brass-armed chandeliers fitted with deep burgundy shades. Some suites retain original stucco ceilings and gilded baroque mirrors alongside heritage pieces in walnut and cherry, the mix landing closer to a well-curated Roman apartment than a hotel room. The rooftop dining room, Mirabelle, takes a sharper contemporary line — floor-to-ceiling glazing, mirrored buffet surfaces, white linen — framing the city panorama as the primary decorative act. Where the restaurant below leans into gilded Louis XVI-style chairs and draped silk curtains suffused in amber evening light, the breakfast room above strips everything back to let the view do the work.

"My husband, mother, and I stayed here in February 2026. I chose it as it's a part of "The Edit" by Chase. Booking through Chase meant we were eligible for an upgrade, which we did receive. My mother and we had adjoining rooms on the 2nd floor at the front of the building. The feature of sharing a door was very convenient! I was grateful for this perk. We also had a complementary bottle of spring water by our beds each evening. The rooms and bathrooms were good sized. The shower was quite large. The heated towel rack was an added bonus. The closet had more or less enough room to unpack for a week, but the only provided drawers were low down and not as convenient to use. The bed was comfortable and the heat/air was easy to control. The room, though on the road, was very, very quiet. The doors in our room were some of the thickest I've ever seen in a hotel! The nightlights to help you see your way in the dark were thoughtful, though we chose not to use them after the first day (they were a little too bright for me). Breakfast- included in our rate- was plentiful and varied enough for everyone to get what they wanted. Service was consistently top notch. Umbrellas were available for the one rainy day we had. The front desk got me a bag of ice when I needed it and ordered white taxis when we wanted them to go to dinner and the airport. Overall, I would definitely stay here again!"

"The hotel definitely deserves its high ranking and is well located in the city. We had a beautiful suite with bedroom, large bath, and sitting room that were above expectations! The staff was excellent and very helpful with directions, arranging transpotation, etc. with a smile and great attitude. The location was good with within walking distance of major attractions. (~35 minutes to the Colliseum and 45 minutes to the Vatican). The bar and restaurant require reservations but there are other very good restaurants within a 10 minute walk. The breakfast was excellent with a great variety including make your own mimosas, if you are so inclined. We highly recommend the hotel!"

"We loved our time in Rome and the Splendide Royal. The front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room and bath were huge and beautifully appointed with incredibly comfy beds. (We wish they marketed the bedding!) Weather permitting - do not miss drinks on the rooftop. Sunset was spectacular.! You must make a reservation."

"Smashing hotel. Really friendly and helpful staff. Excellent rooftop bar for sundowners looking out over Rome. Pricey but we were well looked after. Good location with decent eating options in and close to the hotel."

"We booked a prestige room, and a triple room for my husband’s birthday weekend for our family of 5. The hotel arranged a taxi to collect us from the airport, and that went smoothly. On arrival at hotel we were thrilled to have had both rooms unexpectedly upgraded - the rooms each had 2 bathrooms, a living room, and for the triple a 2nd bedroom. The rooms were the biggest we have ever seen, absolutely huge and so beautiful. All the staff were so welcoming with outstanding customers service. We ate breakfast in the hotel which had everything you could possibly want, and more. A really fabulous breakfast. A wonderful weekend stay, and we definitely will return to this hotel again."
