PB hotel design editorial

On Via della Muratte, half a block from the Trevi Fountain's perpetual roar of tourist traffic, a terracotta-washed palazzo with grey-shuttered windows and a rusticated stone base has been holding its corner since the eighteenth century. Maalot Roma, which carved its 55 rooms from this four-storey Roman palazzetto, was conceived by the Edart Group as a deliberately theatrical counterpoint to the neighbourhood's grand-hotel tradition — turning instead toward something closer to an opinionated private collection than a conventional hospitality interior. The design, overseen with evident affection for accumulation and contrast, layers period architectural bones — plaster cornicing, arched doorways, parquet flooring — against a chromatic programme that refuses to settle. Guestrooms shift personality by colour field: one arrives dressed in deep lacquer red with arched botanical-print headboards and ikat-patterned curtains, a fashion illustration pinned above a sculptural bedside lamp; another runs to chartreuse and warm grey, the same fern-motif upholstered headboard reappearing as a linking motif across categories. The internal atrium salon, glazed overhead to flood the space with Roman light, anchors a brass-and-ebony chandelier above a run of teal buttoned velvet seating, Old Master portraits sharing wall space with a large-format photograph of the Galleria Farnese. The bar, finished in deep green lacquer with brass-framed arched mirrors and globe pendant lights, carries the whole interior's sensibility into a single tight composition.

"If you get the chance to stay at this wonderful hotel you must. The relaxed vibe and attention to detail is what all 5 star hotels should aspire to be like. From the moment we arrived, the team were outside waiting for us to arrive, as parking was difficult. They knew who we were, despite not booking the transfers. The hotel not only gave us their recommendations for the best restaurants to eat in, but they listened to what we wanted, and then booked them accordingly. The rooms were all beautiful, with lovely high ceilings. Breakfast great, and cocktail bar really excellent. I have to give a special shout out to Ivan Galeano. Nothing was too much trouble, but nothing was over the top. Discreet, sophisticated, subtle. Hopefully we will be able to visit Rome again. If we do, there is only one hotel that we will stay at. Thanks to the whole team. Faultless."

"We had an incredible 3-night stay in October 2025 and this was easily the highlight of our hotel experiences in Rome. The staff truly sets this hotel apart from others we stayed at during our trip. From the moment we arrived, everyone was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely helpful. We arrived early, and even though our room wasn’t ready yet, the staff kindly stored our luggage and offered us breakfast, which was a great start after traveling. That level of hospitality continued throughout the stay. The location was perfect. We walked to the Colosseum (15-20 minute walk) and the Vatican (35-40 minutes). Trevi fountain was a short walk."

"Hotel Maalot is a charming boutique hotel full of character located just a few steps from the Trevi fountain and the Via del corso shopping area. The location is beyond ideal. We were able to walk to all major attractions around Rome that are all within 10-15 min from the hotel. Food options are endless, we really didn’t have to go far to enjoy the most delicious Roman dishes and pizzas. The rooms are beautifully designed and well appointed with ample space. Each room is unique in its style and the colors are vibrant and bring so much joy. All snack and drinks inside the room are free of charge which I found to be such a nice gesture. The breakfast service is beautiful and elegant served in the main restaurant, a 5 star experience all the way. The a la carte menu offers diverse options that satisfies even the pickiest taste buds… (we had 4 picky teenagers) The most unique feature of the Maalot is its people. Their Kindness, Attentiveness and Helpfulness are unparalleled!!. A big thank you to every single member of the cleaning team, room service, the concierge team, and to the sweetest General Manager for being available everyday to make our stay the most wonderful of the year. Thank you for making us feel at home and we cannot wait to return."
