PB hotel design editorial

Tucked into the dense fabric of the Colonna rione, steps from the Pantheon and the Montecitorio parliament building, a sixteenth-century Roman palazzo carries the kind of ceiling frescoes that most museums would queue to exhibit — and Martius Private Suites has had the good sense to leave them exactly as found. The coffered and painted vaults, some gilded and figural, others geometric and trompe-l'oeil, preside over rooms furnished in a register that sits somewhere between grand Roman apartment and considered boutique hotel: deep sapphire velvet sofas on Persian carpets in the common salon, ebonised cabinetry with brass inlay detailing in the suites, and circular pendant lights whose clean geometry deliberately contrasts with the ornate plasterwork above. The interiors layer terracotta-hued velvet armchairs with floral-printed settees and gold-leaf accent walls, the mix intentionally eclectic rather than curatorially strict — this is a small property, just a handful of suites, and the atmosphere is closer to staying in a well-appointed private residence than checking into a hotel. From the balconies, the view drops directly into the cobbled lanes connecting the Piazza di Spagna axis to the Campo Marzio, stone gargoyle brackets and wrought-iron lanterns framing the street life below. The inner courtyard, with its ochre render, marble-pedestalled bronze figure, and dark-lacquered double doors, sets the tone before a guest crosses the threshold.

"This was our last stop in Italy and what a lovely hotel to finish out our stay. All of the staff were incredibly helpful – starting upon our arrival when they greeted us as our cab pulled up to help carry our luggage to the rooms. It is a great location, within walking distance of all the major sites and so many restaurants. The room was spacious and well equipped and breakfast each morning was a wonderful spread of fresh fruit, pastries, cheese, prosciutto, yogurt and wonderfully crafted coffees. The highlight of our stay, however, was the bartender, Manuel, who is an incredibly talented bartender and lovely young man. We visited him every evening, enjoying our time as he experimented with different cocktails and spoiled us with snacks and desserts. He shared stories about Italian life, and we had a blast hanging out with him."

"Fantastic place to stay in Rome, and so convenient to several must visit places to see! The staff went out of their way to make our stay so amazing! The front desk helped us with our luggage, arranged transportation, provided directions and answered our many questions. Within walking distance to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and many wonderful restaurants. Clean comfortable furnishings, along with small extra details such as robes, slippers, razor and shaving cream that helped made our six night stay a memorable one. The bartender at Martivs, Manuel, was so friendly and engaging, providing a great way to end each day."

"Our stay here was a highlight of our Italy trip. We booked the Deluxe Suite, which was stunning, thoughtfully curated, spacious, and boasting a brilliant, design-forward aesthetic. After long days of exploring the city, returning to such a beautiful, comfortable space to unwind and relax felt luxurious. The location could not have been better . We were within easy walking distance of the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, and countless other historic landmarks. For a family traveling with a young child, the convenience was unmatched. The surrounding neighborhood is dense with fantastic restaurants, gelaterias, and cafes, making dining effortless and stress-free."

"Fabulous & delightful boutique hotel! 1066252492 This is a fabulous boutique hotel right in the heart of Rome. Just minutes away from the Parthenon and several other sites. Abundantly restaurants and cafes nearby. The team at Martivs PS are great! Very welcoming and attentive. And clearly led well! Manuel at the Mademe hotel bar was a particular highlight. He took great care of our group! The room was spacious and well appointed. Even though the hotel is in the heart of the city it was very quiet. The front desk team, particularly Beatrice, was helpful in arranging groundtransportation to/from airport and providing helpful information throughout our stay. I highly recommend this hotel if you’re traveling to Rome."

"We had a wonderful 5-night stay at Martius Private Suites and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The location is fantastic—within walking distance of many of Rome’s most famous landmarks, making it the perfect base for exploring the city. Our room was luxurious, beautifully appointed, and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was equally impressive, offering a true boutique hotel experience. The staff were warm, friendly, and always ready to help. A special thank you to Luigi for his exceptional hospitality and to Manuel at the bar, who crafted many delicious and creative cocktails during our stay. Breakfast each morning was elegant, fresh, and very enjoyable. From the outstanding service to the perfect location, everything exceeded our expectations. We can’t wait to return on our next visit to Rome. Highly recommended!"
