PB hotel design editorial

Tucked into the dense fabric of the Colonna rione, steps from the Pantheon and the Montecitorio parliament building, a sixteenth-century Roman palazzo carries the kind of ceiling frescoes that most museums would queue to exhibit — and Martius Private Suites has had the good sense to leave them exactly as found. The coffered and painted vaults, some gilded and figural, others geometric and trompe-l'oeil, preside over rooms furnished in a register that sits somewhere between grand Roman apartment and considered boutique hotel: deep sapphire velvet sofas on Persian carpets in the common salon, ebonised cabinetry with brass inlay detailing in the suites, and circular pendant lights whose clean geometry deliberately contrasts with the ornate plasterwork above. The interiors layer terracotta-hued velvet armchairs with floral-printed settees and gold-leaf accent walls, the mix intentionally eclectic rather than curatorially strict — this is a small property, just a handful of suites, and the atmosphere is closer to staying in a well-appointed private residence than checking into a hotel. From the balconies, the view drops directly into the cobbled lanes connecting the Piazza di Spagna axis to the Campo Marzio, stone gargoyle brackets and wrought-iron lanterns framing the street life below. The inner courtyard, with its ochre render, marble-pedestalled bronze figure, and dark-lacquered double doors, sets the tone before a guest crosses the threshold.

"What a find! The location is fabulous, it has bags of character and the staff are absolutely charming. If you like a large corporate this is not for you - if you like a true Roman experience with personal service you will love it! Special mention to Manuel who looks after the bar so well!"

"The place to stay in Roma ! For our first time in Roma we hesitated a lot but you don’t have to hesitate anymore because this is the one Everything is great the location (very central and yet very quiet) the personnel (always smily and ready to take care of you day or night )the room (which was gigantic and a sweet mixing between old style so important in Roma and modern comfort … If I want to be really fair I would say that the breakfast is not at the level of the hotel. I would have appreciate more local products for the yogurts or the jam for example but it is a detail compare to all the advantages and the qualities of that place. We will be returning there for our next trip to Roma !For sure !!"

"Absolutely loved our trip to Rome, and especially our stay at the Martivs hotel. We received a very warm welcome with the reception staff providing a first class customer service. The hotel and our apartment was stunning and very stylish and immaculately clean throughout. The location is absolutely perfect with all of the main attractions within walking distance. Continental breakfast is provided and is plentiful. We would like to thank all the staff for making our stay the best it could have possibly been."

"My husband and I had the best stay at Martius Private Suites. We can’t recommend this hotel enough! From the kindness and warmth of the staff (hi Matteo!) to the room upgrades (both of our stays were upgraded for our Rome trips!). The included breakfast is amazing. It’s very much worth the €10 to have it brought up to your room at a time of your choosing, though having breakfast in the dining room was great, too. The linens and bathrooms were spotless in both rooms, and we loved having windows we could open to let the fall air in. I am an incredibly picky traveler and have high standards for hotels, and would highly recommend this great spot for its affordability and excellency. We will definitely back on our next trip to Rome. Lastly, the location is perfect. Everything is walkable since it’s central, but it never felt like we were in a tourist hot spot. It was the perfect location, and we loved that they close the gate at night for added safety (though the area is very safe). All you do to get in and out at night is hit the button and it it unlocks pretty immediately once a staff member is notified - so easy. All of this to say, if you have a list of Rome hotels and aren’t sure what to choose, choose this!"
