PB hotel design editorial

A sixteenth-century palazzo steps from the Trevi Fountain, its travertine base and piano nobile shutters unchanged from the street while everything within was quietly reimagined — that is the central proposition of Palazzo Scanderbeg, a 30-room hotel fitted into a building whose courtyard entrance and carved portal survive as reminders of its aristocratic origins. The facade, photographed here at dusk, presents four storeys of ochre render framed by white pilasters and deep-set louvered shutters, the classical cornice line holding it in the same visual register as the surrounding centro storico without concession or apology. Inside, the design navigates five centuries with a deliberately light touch. Exposed timber ceiling beams — some left in their original warm wood, others whitewashed — run above oak plank floors and a contemporary palette of warm taupe, cream, and carefully deployed red accents: a lacquered bottle-form vase, a curved tub chair in scarlet upholstery. The breakfast room favors low rounded armchairs in grape-purple wool, white lacquer tables, and walls hung with black-and-white photographic prints of Rome in the Dolce Vita era, a curatorial choice that grounds the building's history in the city's cultural memory rather than its architectural one. On the upper terrace, white rope lounge chairs and ivy-screened parapet walls open toward the Roman roofline under an evening sky, the whole arrangement carrying the atmosphere of a private apartment rather than a managed hotel space.

"I stayed 2 nights before the cruise. The hotel was around the corner from the Trevi Fountain and walking distance to the most places. The room was very spacious, quiet and comfortable. Easily the most spacious hotel room I have ever stayed in Rome. The breakfast was delicious with fresh made eggs on demand. When I had an issue with the Uber to the cruise port, the front desk immediately got me a taxi. Great room, nice staff, delicious food, great location!!"

"Traveled to Rome with a friend who has been several times before in May 2025 , and we stayed at Palazzo Scanderbeg. An absolutely wonderful property. It’s in Trevi, about a one minute walk from the fountain. It sits on a quiet street about a block from the chaos. Never had a problem with noise or the crowds. The front desk staff are friendly, polite and very helpful. Every morning a sweet little lady brought coffee & breakfast to our room. Beds were comfy and the room was huge. Our transfers to and from FCO were arranged by the hotel. The property is lovely. Very old Italian, full of character, and its history is fascinating. Location is very central to everything in Rome. Easy walk to most landmarks in the city, takes about 30 mins to walk back from the Vatican. I’ll be traveling to Rome again with my husband in late September 2026, this will be his first trip to Italy. So excited that we’ll be staying at Palazzo Scanderbeg again, this time in the Annex."

"Recently stayed here post-cruise for a night before flying home the next day, and we absolutely adored this special place! We experienced friendly hospitality from the moment we arrived early with a kind welcome and luggage storage while our room was being prepared. Our room was large and comfortable with a complimentary mini bar and breakfast that included freshly squeezed juice. It’s tucked away around the corner from Trevi Fountain and surprisingly quiet given how close it is to the active streets. We also enjoyed a delicious dinner at an eatery just steps from the hotel as we took in the atmosphere that only Rome can provide on a nice evening. Will definitely keep Palazzo Scanderbeg on our radar for future visits to Rome!"

"We absolutely loved our stay at Palazzo Scanderbeg. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome and at home. The location is fantastic—tucked just far enough from the bustle to feel private, yet close to everything you'd want to see in the historic center. Our suite was spacious, beautifully designed, and so thoughtfully equipped. We especially appreciated the little details that made it feel more like an elegant Roman apartment than a hotel. The mix of historic charm and modern comforts was perfect. Breakfast was lovely each morning, with fresh options delivered right to our room. And the staff truly went above and beyond with recommendations and helping us make the most of our time in Rome. If you're looking for something special, personal, and memorable in Rome, I can't recommend Palazzo Scanderbeg enough. It's the kind of place you want to tell all your friends about—but also keep as your own little secret!"
