PB hotel design editorial

The stone portal visible in the first image — rusticated travertine, a mascherone carved into the keystone, balustrade above — belongs to a late Renaissance palazzo on Via della Stamperia, steps from the Trevi Fountain, whose origins stretch back to the sixteenth century. Palazzo Talia, which converted this historic Roman fabric into a boutique hotel, asked designer Luca Guadagnino and his studio Giano to answer a question that few hospitality projects pose so directly: how do you furnish rooms inside a building where the walls themselves are the most significant objects in the space. The answer, visible across the guest rooms, is a kind of productive dissonance. Herringbone parquet floors carry steel four-poster beds with arched canopies that echo palazzo window forms; ink-blue velvet headboards and lacquered pink cube tables introduce a saturated contemporary palette against high white plaster ceilings and original cornicing. The bar is the most vivid room in the hotel — antique mirrored tiles lining the counter surround, Thonet bentwood stools at marble, painted fresco fragments above the windows — while the restaurant deploys a coffered ceiling of gilded square-within-square geometry that sits somewhere between Roman antiquity and midcentury rationalism. Throughout, Murano glass sconces and bespoke furniture manufactured in Italy hold the rooms in an atmosphere that belongs entirely to Rome without deferring to it.

"This hotel is beautiful and in a great location, just a few minutes from the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. I would recommend having a look on the first floor- the corridor and seating area is stunning. The bar is also stunning and the cocktails are delicious. The spa area is also definitely worth a visit and the lady on the reception desk there was so warm and welcoming. The staff in general are all excellent. We had a fantastic stay and I would love to return!"

"The Good The hotel is in an excellent location with a wonderful bar. The Lobby(art deco) and first floor(1600’s charm) are absolutely stunning. We had a room on the 1st floor which provided a gorgeous experience but that’s where the good ended. The Bad 1) This might be one of the most rude/pretentious staffs I have ever encountered. They make you feel like you are burdening them with any request. 2) Do not expect to have any brand loyalty recognition here… or to even have the staff say hello. We have diamond status and were offered zero upgrades when multiple upgrade rooms were available. 3) The breakfast was lackluster at best and again if you asked for another coffee you were given side looks and felt like you were bothering them. 4) The elevator smelt like mold and mildew. 5) The second floor reminded us of a super 8, no decor or anything in the hallways. Overall considering this hotel retails above $1,000 a night I would NEVER recommend it to anyone. Please save the money/free night and go somewhere else"
