PB hotel design editorial

Tucked into the cobbled streets of Monti — Rome's oldest rione, where artisan workshops and osterie occupy buildings that have changed hands across centuries — The Fifteen Keys Hotel inhabits a nineteenth-century palazzo whose granite-clad ground floor and arched, steel-framed windows give it the composed authority of a private institution rather than a hotel. Those fanlight windows, visible from the street at night with warm lamp light spilling through the gridded glazing, are among the property's most characterful gestures: industrial in their detailing, yet entirely in keeping with the neighbourhood's layered, unhurried fabric. Inside, the interiors move between two distinct registers. A salon finished in deep slate-blue panelling, with a tufted banquette running the perimeter, herringbone oak parquet underfoot, and copper cage pendants catching the light above houndstooth barrel chairs, carries the atmosphere of a well-appointed Edwardian club. Guest rooms take a different approach — each painted in a single saturated colour, from cerulean to warm ochre, with upholstered linen headboards, wool throws, and striped accent cushions introducing a residential informality that keeps the colour from feeling theatrical. A candlelit internal courtyard, furnished with dark iron garden chairs and bordered by the same arched steel windows seen from the street, pulls the exterior language inward and gives the property its defining spatial quality: small in scale, carefully assembled, and unmistakably Roman in its preference for atmosphere over spectacle.

"It is always a challenge for a frequent traveller to find a just right hotel which ticks all the boxes. I can confirm that what you read here in the best reviews is pretty much correct. It is very clean, quiet, comfortable, located well to walk to the central sites, nice staff and good service, transfers arranged, good choices breakfast, and wonderful home made biscuits and cakes. We were very pleased thank you."

"This is the best hotel we have ever stayed at. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The inside is so clean and beautiful. I have environmental sensitivities to mold, and I experienced no allergies or issues because there is no mold at all. The building is mold, dust, and water damage free! It is spotless and no air quality problems. And the decor is fabulous! Everyday they prepare gourmet homemade breakfast made with the best ingredients. It is better than grandma’s cooking! They will even prepare you breakfast boxes if you have an event before breakfast formally begins. Awesome location in Monti, Rome. Very safe location. They lock the doors too, and are always ready to buzz you in. The staff here is truly incredible. So friendly. It is a very walkable location to everything— Colosseum, Vatican, all Major Basilicas, restaurants, gelato places, grocery stores, boutique shops, the Roman Forum and many more! There are so many cute shops and delicious food options as you step outside the hotel. We will definitely be staying here again! We could not recommend this stay enough. It is a wonderful boutique hotel for everyone- single, couple, family trip. 100 stars out of 10."

"Celebrating my significant special birthday at The Fifteen Keys Hotel was absolutely fantastic. Great location, delicious restaurants within walking distance, 15 mins walk to Spanish Steps. The suite was extra roomy, spotlessly clean and very quiet. The staff are what makes this Hotel so great. Nothing is too much trouble. They booked our airport pick up & drop off, restaurants and activities for us. E-mailed a copy of one of our passports to us within seconds when one of our group didn't have ID to get into the Colosseum! The breakfast is 5*, a full range range to suit all tastes and each day a new juice to sample, fruit, pastries, bacon, eggs, home made granola and more. All delicious. The breakfast team are wonderful. A great way to start your day! Will definitely return."
