PB hotel design editorial

Tucked into the cobbled streets of Monti — Rome's oldest rione, where artisan workshops and osterie occupy buildings that have changed hands across centuries — The Fifteen Keys Hotel inhabits a nineteenth-century palazzo whose granite-clad ground floor and arched, steel-framed windows give it the composed authority of a private institution rather than a hotel. Those fanlight windows, visible from the street at night with warm lamp light spilling through the gridded glazing, are among the property's most characterful gestures: industrial in their detailing, yet entirely in keeping with the neighbourhood's layered, unhurried fabric. Inside, the interiors move between two distinct registers. A salon finished in deep slate-blue panelling, with a tufted banquette running the perimeter, herringbone oak parquet underfoot, and copper cage pendants catching the light above houndstooth barrel chairs, carries the atmosphere of a well-appointed Edwardian club. Guest rooms take a different approach — each painted in a single saturated colour, from cerulean to warm ochre, with upholstered linen headboards, wool throws, and striped accent cushions introducing a residential informality that keeps the colour from feeling theatrical. A candlelit internal courtyard, furnished with dark iron garden chairs and bordered by the same arched steel windows seen from the street, pulls the exterior language inward and gives the property its defining spatial quality: small in scale, carefully assembled, and unmistakably Roman in its preference for atmosphere over spectacle.

"Our stay at The Fifteen Keys was absolutely perfect and exceeded all of our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the staff were exceptional—warm, welcoming, attentive, and genuinely dedicated to making our stay unforgettable. Their hospitality is second to none. Every detail in the hotel has been thoughtfully considered. The rooms are beautifully appointed and equipped with everything you could possibly need, including luxurious robes and slippers, a hairdryer, straighteners, a mini fridge, and premium shampoo and conditioner. It’s these little touches that make such a difference. The breakfast is truly one of the highlights of staying here. Every morning there is an incredible selection of homemade pastries, freshly baked breads, delicious cakes, and a wonderful continental breakfast. A special mention must go to Ionela, whose freshly prepared baking and cooking each morning were simply outstanding. Her passion and care shine through in every bite. The hotel also has a beautiful, cosy courtyard, which is a lovely, peaceful oasis to relax in after a day exploring the city. The location couldn’t be better—within easy walking distance of the Colosseum and many of Rome’s other famous sights, while still offering a quiet retreat away from the crowds. If you’re planning a visit to Rome, look no further. The Fifteen Keys is a truly special hotel, and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Highly recommended."

"This lovely boutique hotel is a gem. I travelled solo for 3 nights to meet friends who stayed nearby, and felt super welcome and safe in this beautiful property. At first when I booked I wondered if it would be worth paying a slight premium over other nearby properties but it immediately is evident how worthwhile it is when you get there. Lots of little details have been thought through, including a lovely welcome coffee and cool towel, morning notes with daily advice on what to see, and high quality toiletries in the bathroom. I flew out rather early on my last morning and the team packed me a breakfast box. Just delightful. Would totally come back again. Thank you to the staff."

"This was such a classy and quaint hotel. Great location to see all the major Roman sites by walking or metro. The surrounding area also had good food options and was very quiet at night. The staff was very helpful and welcoming throughout our stay. My wife loved the personal makeup area and the room was extremely clean and the AC kept us cooled off since we were staying during a summer heat wave. The shower was big and had great water pressure. As other reviews mentioned, the hotel breakfast was phenomenal. Everything is made fresh daily and the chef and staff walked around each morning to greet us and bring cappuccinos or fresh juice. The complimentary afternoon tea was also a nice getaway from the outside heat and had plenty of loose leaf tea options with biscuits and pastries. Overall a great stay we would easily stay here the next time we come back to Rome and have already recommended this location to friends and family!"

"A great boutique hotel with staff ( and a chef) who really care. I stayed in a single room. It had a spacious bathroom with a big shower and big double bed. The hotel serves the best breakfast I have ever had in a hotel ( no exaggeration here) I stayed in a heatwave and the air conditioning ( which can be subpar in some european hotels) was excellent. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Termini station in a quiet street in the Monti area. Its a 10 minute walk to the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Would stay again in a heartbeat"

"We bookended a family trip to Italy with two nights at the Fifteen Keys, and are SO glad that we did. Everything was perfect - from being greeted with a drink in the cafe while our rooms were arranged, to the homemade breakfast every morning, to the lovely interactions with the staff. The rooms are spacious, showers are luxurious, and beds are comfortable. We would definitely stay again!"
