PB hotel design editorial

Framed by umbrella pines on the Lungotevere Arnaldo da Brescia, a contemporary bronze-toned building rises against the ochre and terracotta facades of the Prati district — its gridded curtain wall and angled glass roofline marking it as an architectural interloper in the most deliberate sense. The First Musica, part of The Pavilions Hotels & Resorts group, makes no attempt to mimic its nineteenth-century neighbours, instead proposing a dialogue between modern materiality and one of Rome's most quietly cinematic river frontages. From across the Tiber, the building's warm metallic cladding catches afternoon light in a way that brings it closer in feeling to the surrounding travertine city than a first glance suggests. Inside, the interiors work a palette of smoked oak wall panelling, Calacatta marble, and sand-toned carpeting — materials that carry Roman weight without reaching for historical pastiche. Guest rooms frame direct views over the Tiber toward domes breaking the skyline, full-height glazing dissolving the boundary between interior calm and the city's accumulated centuries beyond. The rooftop terrace, where rope-woven chairs in charcoal sit against glass balustrades, delivers an unobstructed sweep from the curve of the river to the gilded dome of Sant'Andrea della Valle at dusk. Brass fittings, fluted credenzas in cream lacquer, and backlit circular mirrors complete rooms that feel considered rather than merely appointed.

"We stayed on the hotel's music-inspired floor, which made the experience feel even more unique. Our room featured stunning floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows with breathtaking views over Rome, waking up to that skyline every morning was something truly special. Breakfast was excellent, with a great selection of fresh, high-quality products served in a beautiful setting. The rooftop terrace is another highlight of the hotel, offering spectacular views of the Eternal City and the perfect atmosphere to relax after a day of exploring. Most importantly, the entire team was incredibly warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making us feel at home throughout our stay. A wonderful boutique hotel with a unique concept, exceptional hospitality, and one of the most memorable views in Rome. We would be delighted to return."

"From the moment we arrived, The First Musica exceeded our expectations. What impressed us most was the level of hospitality—everyone was wonderful, and Alessandro, Daniela, and the gentleman at breakfast deserve special recognition for making us feel so welcome throughout our stay. The hotel is perfectly located, making it easy to explore Rome on foot while still offering a peaceful atmosphere away from the crowds. Our room was beautifully designed, with incredible views and one of the nicest hotel bathrooms we've seen. Breakfast was also fantastic, with an extensive selection and something for everyone. A truly memorable stay with exceptional service, thoughtful touches, and a hotel we wouldn't hesitate to recommend!"

"We absolutely adored our stay at The First Musica and would never stay anywhere else in Rome. the Concierge staff was terrific - they were so friendly and cared so much about our stay, and were easily reachable via WhatsApp ahead of and during the trip - responding within minutes including the day of our arrival when they last minute arranged a transfer for us. We were also surprised by an upgrade to a Studio upon arrival: an absolutely stunning corner room with huge glass windows and views of Rome. The rooms are state of the art modern with lots of controls including bedside blind controls and offer wonderful sunlight and views of the city. The rooftop bar must have one of the best views of the city as it has the advantage of being across the river from city center. We also absolutely loved the location, being across the river from city center really helped curb the constant crowd commotion, while being completely walkable to all the main attractions. We would only ever stay here if we visited Rome again."
