PB hotel design editorial

A seventeenth-century palazzo on Via del Babuino, one of the three streets radiating from Piazza del Popolo in Rome's ancient trident plan, gives The First Roma Arte its architectural bones — a rusticated travertine facade, ornate arched entrance portal, and wrought-iron window grilles that centuries of Roman street life have done nothing to diminish. The conversion leaned into contemporary art as its organizing principle rather than defaulting to period grandeur, with the 29 rooms and suites treated as gallery spaces furnished for sleeping rather than the reverse. Inside, the interiors hold that tension between old shell and new sensibility with reasonable confidence. Walls in warm taupe set off cobalt velvet sofas, navy silk curtains, and built-in bookshelves that give the rooms the atmosphere of a well-edited private library. Artworks — circular tondo compositions mounted on vivid orange grounds, large-scale painterly canvases in deep green — punctuate every surface without tipping into the formulaic hotel-art mode. The rooftop restaurant opens the property's best card: a retractable pergola structure framing an unobstructed panorama across Rome's cupolas and umbrella pines toward the Pincian Hill, furnished with cream leather armchairs and dark marble-topped tables. The ground-floor dining room takes a quieter approach, oak floors and a dramatic illuminated wine wall visible through a glass partition doing the atmospheric heavy lifting.

"Lovely hotel, great staff!! They upgraded us to a larger room for free. Lot's to do in the surrounding area. Tip, go down the street for breakfast or coffee, its' 1/3 the hotel price! I would definitely go back there again!!!"

"The First Roma Art is in an excellent position for accessing all sights in Rome, very central and convenient. The rooms are very well appointed with comfy decor. The beds are gorgeous and the rooms are very clean. Sadly though the view from our window was rather underwhelming and the central staircase rather clinical. Water, coffee etc were replenished gratis daily and the toiletries, of which there was a good selection, too. The main parts of the hotel were beautiful with wonderful flower displays, interesting books and objects d'art. The breakfasts were the best we've ever experienced, with limitless fresh coffee, any request was granted and the platters delivered individually to your table were abundant. We didn't ever need lunch as the breakfasts were so good! The roof terrace has an amazing view over Rome and was the perfect place to relax with a cocktail after a busy day sightseeing. All staff were delightful and Natalie gave us excellent suggestions to eat and made bookings for us. We would definitely recommend this hotel if visiting Rome."

"The hotel is situated on a quiet street which was nice but still very convenient for getting to major sites. The hotel staff from the receptionists to the men greeting you at the door were all very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. We had breakfast on the terrace which was lovely and, again the staff were amazing. The Prestige Room was very spacious, perfect for a city break. Definitely recommend the hotel and would stay again. Rome is stunning, lots of walking but you need to as there are gorgeous buildings and sights everywhere!"
