PB hotel design editorial

Trailing ivy cascading down a rusticated travertine facade on Via Ludovisi, illuminated against the Roman night by warm uplighting, announces the Rome EDITION with a gesture that is theatrical without being loud — a quality Ian Schrager has made his signature across the brand. The building, a mid-century palazzo steps from the Via Veneto, was transformed by Schrager working alongside Roman architects to deliver 83 rooms across six floors, the exterior's classical bones left largely intact while the interior was stripped back and rebuilt around a language of warm walnut paneling, herringbone oak floors, and Carrara marble surfaces that feel closer to a well-edited private apartment than a conventional hotel. The guest rooms carry that restraint with confidence — full-height timber millwork, low platform beds with leather-trimmed headboards, and tulip-footed side tables in white Carrara punctuate cream linen and natural wool against the Roman roofline beyond floor-level windows fitted with deep upholstered sills. The underground bar shifts register entirely: paneled in dark stained wood with red velvet banquettes, fur throws, and candlelight bouncing off a rouge marble fireplace surround, it has the atmosphere of a private members' club buried beneath the city. Above it all, a rooftop terrace with a limestone-edged lap pool planted with mature olive trees and bamboo screens delivers an unlikely Roman garden, its travertine deck furnished with teak armchairs and striped cushions looking out across the terracotta panorama of the Ludovisi district.

"Our stay at The Rome EDITION was truly wonderful. The house manager, Paola, and her excellent team made our visit particularly memorable. To a person, we enjoyed the highest level of service and consideration from every staff member. Both of the concierges—Sarah and Giorgio—were so thoughtful and helpful. Giorgio was able to navigate the touchy website for Pantheon tickets, while Sarah gave us many excellent restaurant recommendations. As a partially disabled person, I’m often reluctant to ask for help. But with your porters, I didn’t have to ask. They were so considerate and always offered to help load my "rolling walker" in and out of taxis. Victor was one of the porters I’d like to call out for special thanks. Although I’ve visited Rome a number of times before and have enjoyed staying at other 5-star hotels, the high level of contemporary but understated design at the EDITION is one key element that sets the hotel apart. The entry garden, elegant lobby, both restaurants, small bars, roof garden, swimming pool, and gym are all beautifully designed. We visited in late December/early January so I can imagine the garden and rooftop being very popular in warmer weather."

"We just finished an amazing stay at the Rome Edition hotel which left us so impressed. The decor and atmosphere of the place is great, but a few things really stood out. The staff was excellent across the board, they were so attentive, always ensuring our stay was perfect. Every single team member would ask us if we needed anything, suggested restaurants and places to go. The Punch Room and Jade Bar- the gems of the hotel. The wine selection and the inventive cocktails were fantastic. The hotel is centrally located to so many attractions that were easy to walk to."

"We had a great two day stay at The Edition Rome. Amazing boutique hotel situated down a private cobble stone road way off the Main Street. Nestled in a quiet enclave away from the street noise and hustle and bustle of Rome. The lobby is sunken into a garden area which leads to the main reception entrance. We arrived at dusk and the lighting in the lobby garden was mesmerizing, creating an amazing arrival. The guest rooms are modern, sleek in design. If you are familiar with The Edition, you will appreciate their attention to detail. The wood wall finishes soothes the ultra modern , making the rooms warm and inviting. Needless to say, at this level the staff professionalism was flawless, top cleanliness and services throughout. This is our new fav property in Rome."

"We stayed at the Rome Edition for 4 wonderful nights. We felt special and very welcome from the second we arrived. Staff are professional, friendly and always aiming to please. Hotel entrance is on a small side street away from traffic and only a 5 minute walk to Piazza Barberini. Hotel has a contemporary flare and is immaculately maintained with multiple venues to enjoy a relaxing cocktail. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite with a courtyard view and an abundance of space and comfort. I would highly recommend The Rome Edition."
