PB hotel design editorial

A short walk from the Trevi Fountain, on a narrow street where Rome's baroque grain asserts itself in every cornice and archway, Umilta 36 was carved from a historic palazzo and opened as a boutique hotel with a distinctly contemporary interior sensibility layered carefully over the building's classical bones. The arched entry door visible from the lobby — its proportions unmistakably Roman, iron-framed and generous — remains the clearest evidence of the structure's age, while everything behind it belongs to a different conversation entirely. That conversation is conducted in dark grasscloth-covered walls, brass-trimmed arch detailing, and a crimson hand-knotted rug that anchors the lobby lounge with enough warmth to counterbalance the otherwise deliberately shadowed palette. A bronze figurative wall sculpture emerges from one of the arched panels, giving the room a collected, cabinet-of-curiosities atmosphere without tipping into pastiche. Upholstered banquettes in cream textured fabric sit alongside velvet chairs in forest green and teal, the seating mix suggesting a knowing familiarity with mid-century Italian club interiors. The bar — its counter in polished black stone, back wall in warm oak with brass-edged shelving — anchors the ground floor with a quiet clubbiness. Guestrooms shift register: chevron oak parquet, walnut wall panelling, and grey upholstered headboards keep the mood calm and residential, with framed photography as the primary decorative gesture. The hotel's thirty-odd rooms across several floors achieve an intimacy that larger Roman properties rarely manage.

"What a gem of a boutique hotel. From the moment we arrived, I knew we had made the right choice. Intimate, beautifully decorated, and incredibly kind staff. We adored our room and the layout which was generous and offered a unique entryway as well as a bar area which created a nice separation from the bedroom/bathroom. There was also a small but useful walk-in changing area. It felt like a chic apartment. The minibar was also included and was replenished daily. Bath products are Dyptique and smell incredible. Breakfast was included and had a great variety of high quality products. You can also order a la carte from the breakfast menu if you wanted something heartier but we honestly didn't even need it. A special thank you to Laura who is a lovely human being and offered genuine hospitality at breakfast our last day. Honestly, everyone was so nice and kind. The location as others mentioned is incredible. Just a few short blocks to the Trevi fountain. I highly recommend this hotel!"

"The best hotel in Rome! The main door opens with a smile, the suitcases are taken in to the beutifull reception and a gentelmen named Simone smiled and escorted us to our room, made us feel like his welcoming us back home....felt wonderfull and relaxed. This is our fourth time in Rome and this is definitely the best hotel we've stayed at in this city. A luxurious boutique hotel in an excellent location close to all the must-see places and shopping streets. The hotel is spotless, and the breakfast is excellent with a wide variety of fresh options. The rooms are new, clean, and luxurious. The bathroom was spacious, featuring both a shower and a pampering bathtub with amazing-smelling toiletries. A great bonus was the mini-bar, which was free of charge and refilled daily. The staff is welcoming and pleasant, assisting us with every request. Special thanks to Simone, who made our stay even more enjoyable by sending Champagne to our room along with other lovely treats. We will definitely be back!""

"When i asked about early check in the hotel followed the rules and did not let me in until until 1:13 PM, while i have arrived at 9 am. When i went back to the to check in the electricity was out, and i had to go upstairs (4 floors) …!!! The last before i check out the elevator was not working!!! The weird thing that the nobody of staff really cares… no one even apologized… First and last time in this الفندق موقعه جيد نضيف لكن حقيقي اغلب الموظفين غير محترفين فالحين ما يعملو تسجيل دخول مبكر بس وقت تسجيل الدخول الكهرباء تقطع ونطلع ٤ ادوار على رجلنا عادي!! واخر ليله برضو عطل المصعد وانتظرت في الاستقبال الين اشتغل وعادي ولا احد يعتذر ولا مبالاه اول واخر مره…"
