PB hotel design editorial

A nineteenth-century Sicilian villa pressed directly against the shoreline of Mazzarò bay, with its turreted white facade stepping down to a private beach of fine sand, set the terms for everything that followed when Belmond brought Villa Sant'Andrea into its collection. The building's original domestic character — generous ceiling heights, plasterwork cornices, arched doorways — has been preserved rather than smoothed away, and the interiors carry that residential warmth through polished travertine floors, cane-panelled headboards, oversized wicker pendant lights, and framed panels of hand-painted Sicilian ceramic tile deployed as art objects rather than surface decoration. Colourful ceramic pine cones and pineapples drawn from the Caltagirone tradition appear on bedside tables, grounding the palette of warm sand and pale linen in something distinctly local. The 68 rooms and suites are distributed across the villa and its lower garden annexes, most facing directly onto the Ionian Sea through arched or full-height French-doored balconies where terracotta-potted geraniums blaze against the blue. The terrace restaurant is set on a broad loggia of stone columns and canvas canopies, wrought-iron chairs pulled up to white-clothed tables overlooking the rocky islet of Isola Bella. An infinity pool at the property's upper level dissolves visually into the bay beyond — the rocky headland of Cape Sant'Andrea framing the view in a composition that no amount of careful design could improve upon.

"This was our third visit to this amazing hotel and it will not be our last. Our room this time was an amazing suite with not one, but 2 balcony areas overlooking the sea and mountains behind. This hotel has everything you could want and also close to the cable car that takes you straight into Taormina however the hotel also offers a shuttle bus to take you into town as well. We could go on about the hotel and the amazing food it offers, however, there is something that makes this hotel even better, the staff. Every single person we came into contact with, went above and beyond, to make sure we had an amazing holiday. We can not thank you all enough for making our time in Sicily one to remember. We can not wait to come back next year!"

"We spotted a famous ex football manager when we walked in for our lunch reservation at this wonderful hotel. The setting is stunning, thank goodness they park the car, the winding roads to it were challenging enough. We sat on the outdoor terrace, super hot in the summer even with a sea breeze. Luxurious food, stylish decor and a high level of service. Food is delicious and delicate but this is the place for a special lunch date rather than the everyday dining experience. Great setting for watching people living la dolce vita on the beach and having fun."

"Book now, you will not be disappointed. I wish we stayed longer. I spent 2 nights. The food, attention to detail, and service is unparalleled. What stood out the most was the genuine kindness from the staff. This is a different vibe than other areas in Italy I have traveled to."
