PB hotel design editorial

A nineteenth-century Sicilian villa pressed directly against the shoreline of Mazzarò bay, with its turreted white facade stepping down to a private beach of fine sand, set the terms for everything that followed when Belmond brought Villa Sant'Andrea into its collection. The building's original domestic character — generous ceiling heights, plasterwork cornices, arched doorways — has been preserved rather than smoothed away, and the interiors carry that residential warmth through polished travertine floors, cane-panelled headboards, oversized wicker pendant lights, and framed panels of hand-painted Sicilian ceramic tile deployed as art objects rather than surface decoration. Colourful ceramic pine cones and pineapples drawn from the Caltagirone tradition appear on bedside tables, grounding the palette of warm sand and pale linen in something distinctly local. The 68 rooms and suites are distributed across the villa and its lower garden annexes, most facing directly onto the Ionian Sea through arched or full-height French-doored balconies where terracotta-potted geraniums blaze against the blue. The terrace restaurant is set on a broad loggia of stone columns and canvas canopies, wrought-iron chairs pulled up to white-clothed tables overlooking the rocky islet of Isola Bella. An infinity pool at the property's upper level dissolves visually into the bay beyond — the rocky headland of Cape Sant'Andrea framing the view in a composition that no amount of careful design could improve upon.

"Thank you for a lovely stay your staff were amazing professional This hotel is one of the best in the world"

"We absolutely loved our stay at Villa Sant'Andrea, Belmond's beach property in Sicily and would return without hesitation. The location is fantastic, especially if you enjoy being right on the water. The beach was one of our favorite parts of the stay. It is a rocky beach rather than a sandy one, and the rocks can get extremely hot during the August heat, so water shoes are helpful. That said, the setting is beautiful and the views are incredible. The pool area was also excellent, with thoughtful included amenities and attentive service throughout the day. We stayed in a suite with our child, who slept on the pull-out sofa. While the suite and bathroom was a bit smaller than we expected, especially for a suite category, it was very comfortable and offered stunning views that more than made up for the size. We also appreciated the thoughtful personal touches and amenities provided for our child, which helped make our family feel welcome. The food was outstanding. Lunch may have been the best meal we had during our entire time in Taormina. Breakfast, which was included with our stay, was equally impressive with delicious offerings and beautiful views to start each morning. Overall, this is a beautiful property in an unbeatable beachfront location with excellent dining, wonderful service, and memorable views. We left wishing we had stayed longer and would happily return on a future trip to Sicily."

"My wife and I spent 6 nights at Villa Sant'Andrea for our anniversary during a two-week vacation through Italy, and it was absolutely lovely. The property is beautiful, the amenities are plentiful, and the food was fantastic—especially the wonderful breakfast spread each morning. The highlight of our stay was the impeccable service; the staff is remarkably warm and attentive. We owe a special thank you to Francesca, who took incredible care of us throughout our stay. We would return in a heartbeat."
