PB hotel design editorial

Perched at the edge of Sorrento's tufa cliff above the Bay of Naples, where the ancient Romans once built their seaside villas, the Hotel Bellevue Syrene has been receiving guests since 1820, making it one of the oldest continuously operating hotels on the entire Campanian coast. The building's relationship with the rock beneath it is the defining architectural fact of the property — terraces carved into the volcanic stone, arched loggias embedded in the cliff face, and a pool terrace suspended above the water with Vesuvius fixed on the horizon, its silhouette framing every view to the north. Inside, the interiors move between two distinct registers. The standard rooms present whitewashed barrel-vaulted ceilings, polished white marble floors, and Murano crystal chandeliers, with cerulean accent cushions drawn from the sea below — spare and calm, their palette borrowed directly from the landscape. The suites, by contrast, carry original eighteenth-century painted ceilings in the Neapolitan baroque tradition, their cartouche-framed frescoes depicting mythological figures in ochre, rose, and sky blue, set against contemporary four-poster beds and violet velvet upholstery. The cliff-edge restaurant, its wide glazed apertures fixed on the bay at dusk, completes a property that has always understood its fundamental purpose: to give the view of Naples its proper architectural frame.

"Hotel Bellevue Syrene is a stunning, clean, and perfectly serene property. The views of the water and garden in front of the hotel are spectacular, the staff is super friendly. A special, heartfelt thank you goes to Rosa! She is a very sweet young lady who went completely above and beyond for my daughter and I! Rosa arranged a wonderful room upgrade for us and was incredibly generous in helping us celebrate my daughter's birthday. Everything about this hotel is great, but Rosa’s exceptional hospitality truly stole our hearts. We cannot wait to return!"

"This is the type of place I dream of going back to. Not only were the views amazing but the staff went above and beyond to make sure we didn't lift a finger. Rooms were cleaned twice a day with tons of amenities (little snacks, multiple bottles of water, fully stocked fridge, and more). We called the front desk about several things we feel like a hotel normally wouldn't fix and they had a solution right away. They brought us a mattress pad, there was a pillow menu, room service food was actually some of the best that we had on our trip, they ordered takeout for us and brought it back to the hotel with their porter. Their breakfast room overlooking the sea was the most serene place out of our whole two weeks in Italy. They have someone playing classical music on a grand piano every day at breakfast as well. All staff are incredibly polite. Can't emphasize all the amenities and included snacks, drinks, and food enough. The views from the beach club were also to die for. Worth the money!"

"Bellevue Syrene is a beautiful hotel. Many high end features and you are truly treated like family. Everyone is very attentive and helpful. We had a few issues, but they were corrected quickly or we adjusted to them. The view is outstanding and in a great location. Pricing in Sorrento is extreme so it’s not cheap, but if you have the money and want elegance choose Bellevue Syrene."
