PB hotel design editorial

A seventeenth-century Medici villa perched above the thermal springs of San Casciano dei Bagni, in the southernmost fold of Tuscany where the Val d'Orcia gives way to rolling hill country approaching Lazio — this is the architectural foundation from which Fonteverde Lifestyle & Thermal Retreat derives its entire identity. The main palace building, with its creamy rendered facade, regularised window bays, and wrought-iron balcony railings lined with terracotta urns, carries the measured authority of grand ducal architecture; the Latin inscription running beneath the piano nobile cornice confirms its centuries-old commission. The property expanded considerably in its life as a hotel, the main colonnaded wing housing the restaurant terrace where white parasols and topiary balls now fill the courtyard in a composition that remains faithful to the building's formal geometry. Interiors across the property's roughly 78 rooms and suites settle into a considered monochrome register — cream panelled walls with black-edged curtains, upholstered headboards outlined in dark trim, pale ash floors, and darkened stone accent walls carrying a botanical fresco quality in the villa rooms. Antique prints and warm walnut writing desks ground the scheme without tipping into period pastiche. The infinity pool, edged in pale travertine, frames Monte Amiata directly across the valley — a view that no amount of interior refinement could match, and wisely, none attempts to compete with it.

About

Fonteverde is an elegant resort situated in San Casciano dei Bagni, an ancient village in the Val d’Orcia, which has always been famous for the age-old springs gushing forth thermal waters rich in minerals. The hotel complex is affiliated with "The Leading Small Hotels of the World," a prestigious luxury hotel brand, and alongside it is a fine thermal spa, which boasts the "Leading Spa" brand. The resort comprises 65 rooms, 9 junior suites and 4 suites with terraces over-looking the superb Tuscan countryside. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a Tuscan palace in former times, with quality furnishings and detailed decoration. Enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding Val d’Orcia park and admire the rolling hills and scenic setting punctuated by olive trees and vineyards. The hotel's spa is a multifunctional complex with the most up-to-date thermal treatments, a holistic centre and beauty centre. Signature treatments include the ancient Mediterranean spa, ayurvedic massage, reflexology and therapeutic Dhara. In addition, there are eight pools, ideal for relaxation after a busy day.

"We had to come to Fonteverde four years ago, but two days before leaving, we were called by the Italian Court for the adoption of a child; therefore, we had to cancel our trip, but we have always told we will come back in three guests. And here we are. Fort Verde is a magnificent property nestled a little bit in the middle of nowhere in the beautiful high part of the Val d’Orcia. As soon as you arrive, you realize this is a special place as everything, from the gate, is elegant and well maintained. The hotel as a historic building, and then a big modern part which hosts the majority of the services and the rooms. Welcome was professional and friendly. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a beautiful suite while we booked only a junior suite. The room was very large and classically designed with some modern touches. It featured two bathrooms and a huge terrace that in summer must be beautiful as the view was really great. The main part of the hotel is without doubt the thermal area : a true spa (salus per acquam) with a series of outdoor and indoor pools, gym, sauna etc etc. A part of the spa is also open to external guests but there is a dedicated area to hotel only guests and this made the experience very enjoyable. Breakfast was nice and we also had dinner in the restaurant one night: the maître d’ hotel Gianni was very nice, especially with our six years old child! We have also to mention Deborah (I hope it is the correct name): she really knows how to please guests and was a delightful girl. We stayed only three nights but wish we could stay more. We look forward to visiting again!"
