PB hotel design editorial

Facing the Campo della Salute in Dorsoduro, with the domed silhouette of Santa Maria della Salute visible just steps away, a sixteenth-century palazzo houses one of Venice's most theatrically conceived small hotels. Ca Maria Adele was created by the Naj-Oleari family — the same Milanese dynasty behind the iconic graphic textile brand — and that decorative instinct runs through every room. Rather than imposing a single aesthetic across the property, the hotel assigns each of its fourteen rooms a distinct personality: one is wrapped in indigo-and-gold damask with carved Moorish furniture and a turbaned statue standing sentinel beside the bed, another in deep aubergine with burnished wallpaper and pair of chocolate leather club chairs printed with bird illustrations that carry the slightly surrealist warmth of a Venetian cabinet of curiosities. The public rooms carry a different register — polished terrazzo floors catch the arched canal-facing windows in the restaurant, where Murano glass chandeliers hang above floral-upholstered Louis XV-style armchairs and banquette seating in faded rose. The rooftop terrace, furnished in teak decking with long modular sofas and Venetian blackamoor masks mounted along the wall, gives the property an unexpectedly contemporary outdoor space within its otherwise deliberately antique interior logic. The canal entrance, approached by an ornate iron bridge, establishes the arrival experience at night as something closer to theatre than hospitality — which, at Ca Maria Adele, is entirely the point.

"A wonderful stay and the perfect place to celebrate my wife’s 50th birthday We chose Ca’ Maria Adele after considerable research and booked directly with the hotel. Although booking direct was slightly more expensive than using an online booking site, the personal communication before we arrived proved invaluable and made the whole experience completely seamless. One of the reasons we chose the hotel was its private water entrance, and arriving by private water taxi directly at the hotel’s own landing stage was simply magical. It immediately created a real sense of occasion and the perfect start to a very special weekend. Seeing my wife’s emotional reaction as we stepped onto the private dock confirmed we had chosen exactly the right place to celebrate such an important milestone. From our very first email through to our departure, Thomas, Marco, Fiore and the entire team were exceptional. Every interaction was warm, genuine and effortless. We were welcomed with a glass of Prosecco on arrival, helped with our private water transfers, restaurant reservations and local recommendations, and nothing ever seemed too much trouble. To make Helen’s birthday even more special, the team surprised her at breakfast with a beautiful cake, candle and balloons. It was a thoughtful gesture that meant a great deal to us and perfectly reflected the level of care shown throughout our stay. The hotel itself is beautifully designed and feels like an oasis of calm in a city that can sometimes feel wonderfully busy. After exploring Venice each day, it was a pleasure returning somewhere so peaceful, elegant and luxurious. Its location opposite Santa Maria della Salute is superb, and our Deluxe Room was quiet, opulent and full of character. Breakfast each morning was outstanding, with excellent quality, attentive service and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. As our return flight wasn’t until late evening, the hotel kindly provided complimentary use of their travel room after we had checked out, allowing us to shower, change and freshen up before heading to the airport. It was another thoughtful touch that made a real difference and perfectly summed up the exceptional hospitality we experienced throughout our stay. We’ve already recommended Ca’ Maria Adele to several friends and family members and have every intention of returning ourselves. Anyone can provide a room. Great hotels create memories. Ca’ Maria Adele did exactly that. Thank you once again to Thomas, Marco, Fiore and the entire team for helping make Helen’s 50th birthday a weekend we’ll never forget."

"This hotel was a superb way to base ourselves for the beginning of an Italy trip! The location is quiet ( occasional church bells from the neighboring Basilica) and 1 min from the “Salute” Vaparetto stop. Mario and all of the hotel staff were so very pleasant and helpful. We stayed in one of the top floor rooms (with gold decor) which had a view of the grand canal, along with a webcam that showed all the boat traffic on the television. Great proximity to surrounding neighborhoods for restaurants, shopping and sightseeing. If you want to splurge, a private water taxi can take you from the airport and drop you at the hotel front steps. We opted for this after a long travel day from the U.S. Overall this was a wonderful stay. Grazie Ca Maria Adele!"

"This was our fourth stay at CMA! It is a wonderful, relaxing hotel with great attention to detail. Each room is unique; beautifully furnished with great linens and super comfortable beds. The breakfasts are excellent. All the common areas are comfortable and nicely furnished and the staff are professional, friendly, patient and very accommodating. We love the location in quiet Dorsoduro, just steps away from the Salute vap stop. If you are looking for a small, unique hotel this property is for you!"
