PB hotel design editorial

Positioned on the Giudecca's northern edge with the entire Venetian skyline — San Giorgio Maggiore, the Campanile, the Doge's Palace — arrayed across the water like a painted backdrop, the Cipriani has held one of the great site advantages in European hospitality since Giuseppe Cipriani opened it in 1958. The property was conceived not as a palazzo conversion but as a purpose-built garden hotel, low-slung and terracotta-washed, its four floors stepping back from the lagoon in a manner that keeps the views generous from almost every angle. The Olympic-length pool, visible in the aerial image with white-canopied loungers ranged along its edge, remains one of the very few in Venice proper — a civilised impossibility in a city where flat ground is itself a luxury. Inside, the 96 rooms and suites draw on the full vocabulary of the Venetian decorative tradition without surrendering to pastiche. Lacquered bedheads in the Settecento manner sit against damask wallpapers in warm cream and gold; herringbone parquet floors anchor rooms furnished with painted Venetian case pieces and Persian rugs; blown-glass Murano chandeliers cast the kind of diffuse amber light that makes everything look like a Tiepolo. The lagoon-facing terrace restaurant, lit at dusk by iron lanterns and set with mosaic-topped tables directly above the water's edge, distils the property's essential proposition: that the most persuasive argument for staying on the Giudecca is the view back toward a city you are relieved, briefly, not to be inside.

Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel Reviews

"We had a chance to spend some time at the Belmond Cipriani this summer and indeed it’s an iconic hotel! Everything is beautiful at this property: the hotel itself, the saltwater pool, restaurants, bars, lobby and most of all, its gracious and lovely people. The concierge team, and especially Nicolas, were amazing at creating experiences for our family that enriched our stay. From the private visit to the Murano island and its oldest glass factory, to a drop off at the Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore, where we saw the Barry X Ball’s exhibition The Shape of Time, to pasta making class at the hotel, and many others, this team shines. The excellent service carried throughout the hotel, including at the breakfast restaurant, Cip’s, the Boutique shop where we enjoyed shopping with the lovely and kind Ilenia Garofalo, to the pool, Cipriani’s private boat transfer staff, housekeeping and Ricardo, the falconer and the beautiful Barbara with guest relations."

"Returning the third time, I’ll just repeat my earlier statement: this is the only place to stay when in Venezia. It’s an exceptional place with exceptional staff."

"Stunning hotel. Service was great. Ilenia at the boutique inside Hotel Cipriani was absolutely wonderful! She was so warm, friendly, and genuinely made shopping there such a fun and memorable experience. She has incredible taste and was so helpful without ever making me feel pressured or rushed. If you’re visiting the Cipriani, definitely stop by the boutique and ask for Ilenia—she truly made my day!"

"We recently stayed for three nights at Hotel Cipriani, and to say it was amazing and relaxing would be an understatement. From the moment we arrived, everything was so special. We had a beautiful water taxi waiting for us, which took us directly to the hotel. We were welcomed by Rachele, who was wonderful. She went through our bookings and restaurant reservations to make sure everything was in order, and as our room was ready, she personally brought us up. We were very lucky to be upgraded to a junior suite, which was truly beautiful. It was one of the newly renovated rooms by Peter Marino, and the design was stunning. All of the staff were genuinely lovely and friendly. The hotel has that special Belmond touch where everyone seems to know your name, and we were greeted so warmly everywhere we went. It really made us feel looked after throughout our stay. Breakfast was fantastic and felt like the definition of slow luxury. There was a great variety of pastries, cheeses, cereals and à la carte options, all enjoyed overlooking the lagoon. The pool was another highlight. It was such a treat to have such a large and peaceful pool in Venice, and we spent a very relaxing afternoon there. The new Dior Spa is also beautiful, with excellent staff and a stunning renovation. Unfortunately, we had a small medical emergency during our stay, but the staff could not have been kinder or more helpful. They arranged for a doctor to come to the hotel immediately and even personally collected the prescription for us. We really appreciated how well they looked after us during what was a stressful situation. Thank you to everyone at Hotel Cipriani for making our stay so memorable. We would also highly recommend visiting the nearby new Airelles hotel. It was beautiful, and the ABC Kitchen restaurant was so good that we ended up visiting twice."
