PB hotel design editorial

One of the last privately owned palazzi on the Grand Canal, the fifteenth-century Venetian Gothic structure that houses Palazzo Venart Luxury Hotel was restored and opened as an eighteen-room hotel in 2016, its most remarkable asset being something almost no Venice hotel can claim: a sprawling private garden running down to the canal, thick with magnolias, palms, and classical statuary now companionably interrupted by contemporary sculptures in painted steel ribbon and cast bronze. The interiors navigate the familiar Venetian tension between palazzo grandeur and habitable warmth with some confidence. Guest rooms divide between two registers — the more formal piano nobile suites dressed in crimson velvet headboards with gilded Baroque cartouches, damask wallcoverings, Murano glass chandeliers, and terrazzo alla veneziana floors, and the rusticated upper rooms where exposed chestnut beams, raw brick, and walnut-brown plaster walls carry a warmer, almost agricultural intimacy. The contrast is deliberate and works well. The restaurant, Glam — which under chef Enrico Bartolini has held two Michelin stars — takes an entirely different tone, its dining room fitted with darkened oak flooring, black steel-framed glazing opening onto a cortile, and floor-to-ceiling grisaille tropical murals that give the space the feeling of a theatrical interlude between the palazzo's more earnest historic rooms. The evening courtyard, lit by low bollard lamps against the rose-plastered facade, offers perhaps the most persuasive argument for the property's particular version of Venetian hospitality.

"Efforts to be a 5-star property are made but they fell short. Forbes standards not met: the private transportation we booked with the Concierge directly 3 weeks in advance arrived 25min late, when I called the concierge from the train station to inquire why we were waiting so long in the heat he rudely replied “I dont know im at the desk and not the driver”, found a prior guests name/last name and date of stay on a laundry request pink sheet in our room, and lastly, less than 3 hours after checking out the same concierge reached out to us to ask if we stole “took by mistake……..” 2 bathrobes from the room, versus taking 1 minute to verify with the small team they have that the robes were removed from our room when we requested the dirty stack of towels to be removed from our room at 6:30am. They have only 17 rooms, how hard is it to keep track of their laundry and guests arrivals/requests? Nothing like being accused of being a thief after paying $1k for a night stay. Silvia from the reception team provided outstanding service as well as Iliona from the morning in room dining team. One mistake “ok”, but 3 of this magnitude within a 19hour stay, does not equate to five star service. I dont need repeated apologies, actions and accusations speak louder than words. I dont need a credit this or courtesy that, we choose to stay and pay for the service we want and expect, and they fell short."

"First class service, atmosphere & accommodations in a beautifully restored, elegant building. From greeting us at the dock to arranging our water taxi for departure, the staff made this trip effortless for us. The breakfast in the courtyard was excellent - & we learned what a jujube tree looks like 😁. Don’t miss this memorable hotel!"

"I had such an extraordinary stay at Palazzo Venart—it feels like a sweet little secret of a gem. Every aspect of my experience, from arrival to departure, was superlative. My room, with its terrace overlooking the city, was stunning and beautifully appointed. I slept like a charm! Morning breakfast in the courtyard was a delicious and generous luxury. Silvia, at reception, went out of her way to ensure that everything was perfect. And the manager, Luana, was wonderfully warm and engaged, offering an additional level of personal care to her guests. In all of my travels, this hotel is a standout. I left feeling that I had discovered something truly special—and very much hoping to return. —Sharon"
