PB hotel design editorial

Calle Barozzi, a narrow lane threading between the Grand Canal and Campo Santo Stefano in the San Marco sestiere, has the kind of address that Venetian hotels spend centuries trying to acquire. Violino d'Oro sits in a four-storey palazzo along this corridor, its cream stucco facade framed by deep green shutters and terracotta roof tiles — a building whose proportions and arched ground-floor loggia place it squarely in the palazzetto tradition of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Stone steps descend directly to a private canal mooring, and gondolas pass close enough to the entrance that arriving by water carries an almost theatrical charge. The interiors carry the atmosphere of a Venetian patrician residence assembled over generations rather than designed in a single gesture. Murano glass chandeliers hang in every room — blown in the extravagant branching style the city has produced since the Renaissance — while brass four-poster beds sit on dark-stained hardwood floors laid with Greek-key bordered rugs in deep green or warm stone. Scenic chinoiserie wallpapers, displayed as full panels behind the beds, reference Venice's historic role as conduit between European and Eastern luxury trade. The salon deploys a black marble fireplace beneath a large-format chinoiserie painting, crimson velvet sofas arranged beside cane-back armchairs in a combination that suggests the layered collecting habits of an eighteenth-century Grand Tour interior rather than any contemporary hospitality formula.

"Perfect location, amazing staff, great accommodations. The only issue was the warm weather with no AC allowed by city ordinance until 1 week after our stay . However the staff quickly moved us to an amazing suite where we could keep windows open and provided a great fan. We had one dinner at the hotel the night before we left and we only wished we ate there more often. The food, preparation and service were far better than the highly rated restaurants we used on other nights. This is a little gem of a hotel."

"Our stay at Violino d’Oro in Venice was absolutely over the top in the best way. The hotel was spotless, beautifully maintained, and in a perfect location, but the staff is what truly made it unforgettable. From being welcomed at check-in with Prosecco, to relaxing in the lobby playing cards, to the incredible final gesture of your porter walking our luggage with us for 10 minutes through the crowds to the water taxi, the service was exceptional from start to finish. Honestly, this was probably the best hotel service I have ever experienced."

"The hotel location, service and food were excellent. We had two young kids under 10 and they made sure they were taken care of as well."

"Staying at Violino d’Oro in Venezia was truly a 5-star experience in every sense. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed into a warm, cozy lobby that instantly makes you feel at home—like you’ve arrived at a beautiful Venetian residence rather than just a hotel. The location is absolutely perfect, allowing you to explore the city effortlessly while still enjoying a peaceful and intimate atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where everything feels thoughtfully curated and genuinely authentic. The cuisine is outstanding—every meal feels like a celebration of local flavors, crafted with care and elegance. What truly elevates the experience, however, is the incredible team behind it all. Anabella, the general manager, ensures everything runs flawlessly while creating a genuinely warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the hotel. And Mauro, the talented sommelier, adds a special touch with his exceptional wine knowledge, thoughtful recommendations, and passion for hospitality. Violino d’Oro is not just a place to stay—it’s an experience you’ll want to return to again and again."

"An absolutely wonderful new hotel, perfect in every way. We have been visiting Venice for over 15 years and have almost always stayed at the Cipriani, not the best F and B but without a doubt a romantic hotel, away from the peak season maddening crowds and with the most wonderful swimming pool. When we haven’t stayed there, we have chosen the Danieli We were unusually visiting Venice in November… not at all interested in swimming pools but instead we just wanted to enjoy walking around during this quieter time of the year. We like to drop into Harry’s Bar for lunch… and the Danieli… not for the rooms which are of course very old school and a little musty but for their amazing cocktail bar and pianist which provides the best live bar music, champagne cocktails and service in Venice. The setting is simply gorgeous and the rooftop restaurant is always exceptional. We had however heard about a new hotel in the heart of everything, perfectly situated and so we gave it a try. In future unless we feel the urge to have a swimming pool on site, this is where we will stay in future. Our suite was head and shoulders force superior to anything we have had at any other hotel in Venice. So were breakfasts. More recently, I found myself in Florence for a short day as I had only gone over to attend the opera, Cavalleria Rusticana. The general manager was immediately recognisable to me from the Cipriani, we got some very well and he ended up being my guest at the Opera house. I mention that on my recent visit to Venice I stayed at a new hotel which I absolutely loved and would be returning to. He immediately guessed correctly. Violino D’Oro I clearly respected by their peers as well as their guests. I have the pleasure of meeting the general manager, a remarkable lady with great taste and attention to detail my wife and I enjoyed every aspect of our stay and wished it had been longer than three days. Everything was simply lovely and a bonus was the incredible location which was central for everything. We were simply in all of the quality of the interior being all brand-new and up there with what we would expect from a new Peninsula hotel I’ll be at a boutique version. Very highly recommended indeed, this is where we shall choose from now on. Highly personalised service from all of the staff with the warmest of welcomes."
