PB hotel design editorial

Fluent ribbons of backlit sculptural glass cascade down the entrance facade of W Osaka like frozen water, framing a cobalt-lit tunnel that pulls you through Shinsaibashi's retail corridor into something altogether more theatrical. The hotel, which opened in 2021 within a purpose-built tower designed by Kengo Kuma and Associates, represents one of the more considered marriages between the W brand's nightlife-adjacent energy and a genuinely rigorous architectural sensibility. Kuma's characteristic interest in material texture — the way surfaces can dissolve mass rather than assert it — translates here into a facade treatment that catches light and movement from the street, making the building feel animated even before you step inside. The property holds 337 rooms across the upper floors, with interiors handled by Wilson Associates, who calibrated the brand's signature boldness against the precision Osaka expects. Inside, the design draws on a cool blue and warm timber palette that references Osaka's position as a water city — the indoor pool sheathed in luminous teal ceramic tile, the WET Deck framed by sliding glass and tropical planting. Guest rooms arrive with wide-plank oak flooring, oval freestanding baths set openly against grey stone, and floor-to-ceiling glazing that delivers the city grid in panoramic detail. The all-day restaurant uses a field of suspended globe pendants above herringbone parquet, with cobalt Arne Jacobsen-adjacent seating punctuating the cream banquettes — a composition light enough to read as European brasserie while remaining specifically, deliberately its own thing.

"Check in was a little slow but no problem Room (corner 21st floor ) was beautiful spacious great view, great AC Living room bar was great for daily drinks Did not eat breakfast but looked amazing Gym was spacious but surprisingly not a lot of (relevant) equipment for the amount of space. Lots of wasted space and lots of items that probably rarely get used + waste space Staff was friendly Overall an amazing version of the W - loved it"

"Had an excellent massage from Tomoko at the spa. Despite her small frame, she was able to get rid of sores and aches from 8 years of Olympic weightlifting. My gait improved in just one session."

"This was our first stay at the W Osaka, and it certainly won't be our last. The hotel has a vibrant, stylish atmosphere that immediately sets the tone for a memorable stay. As a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite member, we were generously upgraded from a Cozy Room to a beautiful W Suite. The suite was thoughtfully designed, impeccably maintained, and incredibly comfortable. The bed was one of the most comfortable we've slept in, and the in-room amenities were well-appointed with great attention to detail. We also appreciated the thoughtful welcome gift that was delivered during turndown service to celebrate our anniversary. The facilities were equally impressive. The pool was fantastic, and breakfast at Oh.lala... was excellent, with delicious food and a wonderful selection. What truly made our stay exceptional, however, was meeting Food & Beverage Ambassador, Maurizio Roberti. He was without question the highlight of our visit. Maurizio's warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality exceeded every expectation. He took the time to get to know my spouse and me, listened attentively, and made a sincere effort to ensure our stay was truly memorable. Maurizio is a true gentleman whose integrity, humility, and passion for hospitality are evident in every interaction. Even as we were checking out, he came by personally to thank us for staying at the hotel. That simple gesture perfectly reflected his dedication to creating meaningful guest experiences. W Osaka is fortunate to have someone like Maurizio representing the hotel. He is an incredible ambassador for the brand, and his pride in delivering exceptional service shines through in everything he does. Thank you, Maurizio—it was an absolute pleasure meeting you, and we look forward to seeing you again on our next visit."

"We stayed here for 6 nights in July and everything was perfect. From the service you get as you enter the hotel, the cleanliness, attention to detail, the room size and everything just in general is what you would expect of a 5 star hotel. There was plenty of storage in the hotel with magnificent views overlooking Osaka. The bathroom area was very nice and spacious. I used the spa once and the massage quality was excellent. The pool area was really nice and big, with jacuzzi and sauna provided in the changing area. The breakfast was good and the staff were fantastic. In terms of location, it was only a 10 minute walk to Dontonbori and all the amazing shops which begin from as soon as you exit the hotel. A 10/10 for location. I travel a lot and I have to say I was very impressed with this hotel and can’t fault it the slightest. The only recommendation I would give is to allow kids to use the pool any time rather than restrict it from 12-5pm. They come to relax too."
