PB hotel design editorial

Hamarikyu Gardens, one of Tokyo's oldest surviving feudal-era landscapes, spreads across the foreground of the aerial image here — a tidal garden of black pine and seawater ponds that has barely changed since the Tokugawa shogunate maintained it as a private hunting ground. Rising directly behind it, the glass curtain-walled tower that holds Conrad Tokyo makes that historical contrast impossible to ignore. The hotel sits within the Shiodome City Center tower in Shinbashi, occupying floors 28 through 37 of a 38-storey commercial building completed in 2005, with 290 rooms configured to face either Tokyo Bay or the gardens below. The interiors were designed by the Hirsch Bedner Associates studio, working a palette that moves between restrained Japanese minimalism and the material confidence expected of a flagship Conrad property. Guest rooms carry washi-paper wall panels printed with delicate cherry blossom motifs, walnut millwork, and floor-to-ceiling glazing that frames the city at altitude — the suite shown at dusk, with its dark-stained four-poster bed and a textile artwork above the headboard evoking layered ocean waves, demonstrates how Japanese craft references were woven into an otherwise contemporary framework. The double-height French restaurant, with its cascading circular chandelier of bare filaments suspended above tulip-pedestal chairs, takes a more European register. At the top of the building, the lap pool — tiled in dense aquamarine mosaic beneath a glazed ceiling — delivers the particular Tokyo pleasure of watching the city dissolve into night from above.

"Beautiful upscale hotel with lots of friendly service personal. The breakfast in the main restaurant and executive lounge are wonderful. The cocktail hour in the executive lounge is basic and more could be done with the food but the staff is excellent. The desk staff and the executive floor staff are wonderful. A definite repeat hotel"

"I stayed at both the Conrad Tokyo and the Grand Hyatt Tokyo during this trip, and the Conrad was the clear winner. I would definitely stay here again. The hotel has a peaceful atmosphere while still being in a very convenient location. It's within walking distance of Tsukiji Market and the Ginza shopping district, making it an excellent base for exploring Tokyo. The Executive Lounge is fantastic, with beautiful views overlooking the park. Our room was also noticeably more spacious than the one we had at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo. While Grand Hyatt's rooms are larger than many Tokyo hotels, such as the Hilton, I found the Conrad's layout and overall comfort to be superior. What impressed me most was the service. We had an early morning flight before breakfast service began, and the hotel thoughtfully prepared a takeaway breakfast with food and beverages for us. It was a small gesture that made a big difference and perfectly reflected the exceptional hospitality throughout our stay. Conrad Tokyo exceeded my expectations in every way, and I wouldn't hesitate to return."

"Dates of Stay: April 5-7 Reservation: King Exec Room Bay View Loyalty Program: Hilton Loyalty Program Status: Diamond Loyalty Program Benefits: Breakfast, Lounge Automatic Room Upgrade: No Breakfast: Variety: 7/10 Service: 6/10 Quality: 7/10 Facilities (lobby, business lounge, restaurants, pool area, room): Materials: 8/10 Condition: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Notes: 1. The view from the lounge and particularly from the room of the bay and the Japanese garden at night is incredible, and is arguably worth the price of the room alone. 2. While the location is great from a geographic perspective, it’s not quite as walkable as some of the nearby areas. It’s not an issue because of world class chikatetsu (subway) and the taxi systems, but it is worth noting if you are used to more walkable areas like Shibuya or Ginza."

"We're very grateful for Conrad Tokyo for making our stay in Japan very comfortable and relaxing even in the peak of the hot and humid summer weather 🥵 As soon as we arrived late at night via Limousine Bus from the airport, we were welcomed and assisted (our luggages were taken straight to our hotel room!). We mostly stayed inside our hotel room during this trip because of the heat wave. In-room dining service was quick and immaculate, and the attentiveness towards our needs were top-notch (water, coffee/creamer refills, etc). The breakfast buffet was always something I looked forward to everyday (don't skip on the seafood rice bowl). For evenings, the 28F Bar & Lounge is worth a stop, though the main highlight for me was the live music. The musicians were consistently impressive, and the volume was just right (not too loud). Conrad Hotel's close proximity to multiple train stations and the Caretta Shiodome mall was very convenient as well. We received the same care and attention after checking out from the hotel and getting picked up by the Limousine Bus. Looking forward to booking another stay at Conrad Tokyo (during the colder seasons next time lol)."
