PB hotel design editorial

Four centuries before the hotel tower rose above it, the garden at Kioicho belonged to the feudal lord Ii Naosuke — a fact that Hotel New Otani Tokyo has never tried to hide or romanticize away. The 400-year-old strolling garden, with its lacquered vermilion bridge arching over a central pond, clipped pine trees shaped by generations of hand-work, and granite lanterns worn smooth by time, remains the property's defining gesture. The tower itself, designed by Nikken Sekkei and opened in 1964 to serve visitors arriving for the Tokyo Olympics, rises seventeen floors above the garden in a curved curtain-wall form whose rounded base arcade — visible in the images — softens the building's mass where it meets the landscape below. The Executive House Zen floors, positioned in the upper reaches of the tower, distill the property's long negotiation between Japanese restraint and international hotel convention into something genuinely considered. Guestrooms layer charcoal and warm ochre across padded headboards and geometric bed runners, with washi-shaded bedside sconces casting amber light against pale walls; floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Imperial Palace's forest canopy as though it were a living screen print. The top-floor restaurants follow a similar logic — the open-kitchen dining room with its curved panoramic windows turning the Tokyo cityscape into continuous wallpaper, while the formal French restaurant beneath a coffered rotunda ceiling deploys Hepplewhite-style chairs and medallion-patterned carpet in the grand hotel tradition.

"This was one of the finest hotels we have stayed in a long time. The staff was incredibly courteous, and the hotel is really well managed with attention to details. There are multiple restaurants on the property to indulge if you are unable to go out because of the weather. The location is close to the train stations and the nearby areas have enough opportunities and options to walk around and enjoy the scenery."

"The rooms are well-maintained, clean, and comfortable. Thanks to renovations, the hotel doesn't feel dated. Rating as a luxury hotel, areas for improvement, and disappointments: I selected a twin-bedded room, but it was the size of a double bed, so there was no room for extra bed space. Amenities. There are no extra-large sizes for nightwear. There is only one size for slippers. Neither size is suitable for larger male guests. Amenities are also important for a comfortable stay. Guests have a variety of body types. It's a shame that their perspective is narrow. The food presentation in the lounge is of high quality. It deserves praise, but I was disappointed when I stayed for multiple nights and had the same menu two days in a row. I was excited to read in a news article that they were working to increase repeat customers and gain support from inbound tourists, but my stay fell short of expectations. Unfortunately, I won't be returning."

"I picked th new otani executive house zen as I use my american express platinum card as they uprade the room give you $100 for food , free breakfast and late checkout. Be aware thise hotels cost much more money that average hotels. As I am much older now I cn afford to use this benefit . I knotice theres a world of difference in the room, servie breakfast, etc. I was looking forward to try this hote as last year I was in the Conrad Japan and was blown away with their breakfast, room, and service. New Otani was differet. They have 3 separate chose of rooms. Its like 3 hotels in one. So you can pay something like $200 for a room in a certain section of th hotel.like the garden room and antoher section with different prices and then the top floors which include complementary meals , such as breakfast, ktea time, appetizers, coctails, etc and the rooms are different. We were fortunate to be upgrade to a suite. We had a seperate living room, severate bedroom, huge closet. separte area for the toilet and another room for bath/shower sink. It reminded my of my stuio apartment in NYC . Beautiful rview of the gardnes. So I was very impressed with the accomondatins. they aslo gave you vouvhers to two different breakfast area which i found to be subpar. Felt like the food was from a chain like great western. Lots of crowds. Food wa below par. same with the second breakfast are so we went in a nd left. This was probably because the people were paying 1/5 of what we were. (We paid $1,000 per night) so we ate at the club room which had great good mut not many choices. this wasnt important to use but last year I stayed at the Conrad Hilton and expected the breakfast would have been like that. I was blown away of all the choice and high endfood that I never had. So unfortunately i would not be coming back and for anyone else if you pick the regular price rooms I t would be exceptabel. The gardens were beautiful. I did not go t the spa. The conceige wasnt that knoledgabel. If fact I was telling hin about some sites he wasnt aware of. \"

"Fabulous staff, from the moment we entered the property. We were immediately swept to the Executive area for check in, our bags taken to our suite and we were given welcome champagne and invited to enjoy the mid afternoon buffet. The Executive Club area was our go to place to enjoy the finest treats and Pierre Hermé treats. Every contact we had was the kindest and most generous. Our room was lovely and the robe and pajamas were a surprise treat. The bathroom amenities were the nicest of any 5* hotel I’ve ever had the luxury of staying. The Japanese Garden was fabulous. Three days was not enough. Arigatō!"

"Oh my gosh, where to begin. Every single person we interacted with was so polite, so service oriented, and wanted to do anything they could to make us happy. Just the best experience. The lounge access was a great perk for staying as part of the show executive house zen package. I sent multiple emails in advance while planning our trip and they were always responsive, always helpful, and truly just the best. We’ve stayed at some great places around the world but this staff was the best!"
