PB hotel design editorial

Two sinuous glass towers rising from Yokohama's Minato Mirai waterfront, their curtain walls bowing inward at the waist before flaring dramatically at the crown, give The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama one of the more arresting silhouettes in Japanese hospitality. The building, designed by Nikken Sekkei and completed in 2019, draws its sculptural authority from the bay itself — the curvature of the facade mirrors the arc of the harbor, and at dusk the blue-tinted glass absorbs the gradient of the sky in a way that makes the tower feel more atmospheric than architectural. Inside, the design moves between two distinct registers. The sky lounge, visible in the images, employs a warm vocabulary of herringbone timber floors, curved walnut ceiling coffers, and cascading crystal-strand curtains that pool from a circular aperture above — the effect somewhere between a 1970s supper club and a contemporary Japanese interpretation of Art Deco glamour, with Yokohama Bay Bridge illuminated through floor-to-ceiling glazing beyond. Guest rooms are sharper in their graphic intent: bold geometric headboards rendered in high-contrast black and white reference Op Art, while custom trellis-patterned carpets in deep charcoal or aubergine ground the palette. The indoor pool, lined in a mosaic of triangulated blues set against cream marble walls, extends the building's waterfront logic all the way into the spa level.

"What an amazing stay at the The Kahala in Yokohama. Upon our arrival we were met by staff dressed beautifully in white jackets ,dark slacks & welcoming smiles. Escorted to the 14th fl for check-in, then escorted to our rm. We were given a gracious upgrade to a Corner room with sweeping views of Yokohama pier, the skyline, the Bay and park. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and it seemed as if the entire Hotel staff was aware of this occasion. This alone told us this Hotel goes above & beyond a guest needs or request they anticipate it. The room was amazing! the layout perfect! bathroom breathtaking. With our tightly packed schedule were weren't able to take advantage of all the amenities offered but we did partake in the breakfast both in the ballroom & in room service WOW! We have stayed in many many fine hotels all over the world, never has in room dining for breakfast been at this level. If your ever a guest at this hotel please put that on your to do list. Special shout out to Mr. Sakamoto Senior Guest Service Manager who was like a swiss army during our stay always seeing to our needs, such a professional. If your ever visiting Tokyo and want a break from that city, find your way to Yokohama and this amazing Hotel you won't be disappointed in either. we look forward to our return again & again."
