PB hotel design editorial

Perched on the rim of the Petra valley with the rose-red Nabataean mountains filling every window, the Petra Marriott Hotel makes its most compelling argument through sheer positioning — there are very few hotels on earth where the view from the pool terrace competes with a UNESCO World Heritage Site carved from living sandstone. The building itself follows a regionalist vocabulary common to Jordanian institutional architecture of the 1990s: warm-toned render over concrete, local limestone cladding at the base, stepped terraces and dark timber pergolas referencing traditional Levantine domestic forms. Decorative frieze work along the roofline draws loosely on Nabataean geometric patterning, giving the facade a legibility it might otherwise lack. Inside, the 90-room property has received a considered refresh that brings the guest rooms closer to contemporary Marriott standards — tawny leather headboards framed in pale oak veneer, wide-plank laminate flooring in sand tones, and black-framed windows that frame the rocky escarpment like a series of paintings. The restaurant sits at the top of the building where it earns its keep: dark exposed-beam ceilings, enamelled pendant lanterns, brass dallah coffee pots on open shelving, and oval-backed dining chairs upholstered in teal-and-cream geometric weave all press into service a broadly pan-Arab decorative language. The effect is conventional for the region but entirely appropriate — this is a hotel content to let the landscape carry the drama.

"Good restaurant. Good service. But the massage therapist that worked on st Valentine’s Day is far to be professional, the massage beds were not even prepared, so that it’s soft to put your head in the hole. Got cold of excessive oil put on the skin. Excessive oil means the therapist doesn’t want to put effort at all."

"Not the hotel ‘s fault but the Marriott website should have informed us about the construction work and the fact the advertised views were not available amongst other facilities or a second visit discount given to guests during renovation . Having said that Mohammed Kamas - the bar manager and his staff were wonderful - very flexible and friendly . We were greeted most evenings like friends which was nice Breakfast good Rooms were great with everything you could need Appreciated watching the hotel manager checking with guests how their stay was"

"Currently the Marriott is undergoing some renovations. The pool is closed and there is work being undertaken on site also spoiling one of the big selling points, the view. The rooms are very good with an excellent shower. Beds were comfortable and there was a fridge, kettle, robe, slippers and iron. The TV had several English speaking channels. Staff were very good in the bar and at the restaurant . Breakfast was good. It’s up the hill out of town and I imagine usually worth it for the views."

"We had a terrible experience at the Petra Marriott Hotel. We had booked two Petra Valley View Higher Floor King Size Rooms which had premium rates. On arrival the receptionist assigned one room which was as per our booking but the second room was a smaller twin room and he casually told us that no King Room was available even though we had booked and paid for the same. I am a Marriott Gold Club member and was shocked by the way the reception staff and Duty Manager treated us. Being a tall person I could see over the computer monitor that the screen showed most of the rooms were green meaning they were ready but not occupied. Realising that I had caught their lie the Duty Manager threatened to call the police and have us evicted. The matter was resolved only when we called our driver who is a local from the area. After that they reluctantly assigned a good room. I have stayed in many Marriott hotels all over the world. Without any hesitation I can say this was the worst."

"Our stay at the Marriott Petra was truly memorable. The level of hospitality was unreal — it didn’t feel like standard hotel service, but more like being welcomed into someone’s own home and city. Every interaction felt warm, genuine, and thoughtful. The hotel itself is beautiful, perfectly positioned on a mountaintop with breathtaking views. It has a very cozy, peaceful vibe that makes you instantly relax and enjoy the surroundings. A special thank you to Mr. Ahmed at the reception, who was exceptional. He was incredibly helpful, understanding, and attentive to all our requests, and supported us throughout our stay with great care and professionalism. His attitude truly elevated the entire experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Petra."
