PB hotel design editorial

Tucked into the leafy residential enclave of Kitisuru, where Nairobi's northern suburbs give way to dense canopy and the city's pace noticeably loosens, Kwetu Nairobi — Curio Collection by Hilton — makes a persuasive case for the boutique hotel as neighbourhood institution rather than urban landmark. The name itself sets the tone: kwetu means our home in Swahili, and the property's low-rise white rendered volumes, arranged around a long lap pool courtyard, carry the atmosphere of a well-appointed private compound rather than a corporate hospitality block. Bronze sculptural cattle grouped at the pool's edge anchor the outdoor space with a distinctly East African sensibility, while the retractable-roof bar and restaurant above frames uninterrupted views across the surrounding forest canopy through full-height glazing. Inside the guestrooms, the design navigates comfortably between international hotel convention and local reference. Louvred timber shutters flank picture windows that push the green tree cover into the foreground of each room, while etched landscape panels above the headboards — rendered in the style of agricultural engravings — give the walls a narrative quality that resists the generic. Warm cove lighting in amber tones, grey upholstered sofas, and oak-finished joinery keep the palette calm without feeling anonymous. The all-day dining restaurant takes a different register entirely: bleached timber floors, marble-topped communal tables, and planted olive trees produce something closer to a Mediterranean brasserie, a deliberate contrast to the forest-facing rooms above.

"Where do we even begin? We have probably stayed at over 100 Hilton properties all over the world and this one is definitely top tier! Only great things to say about the Kwetu Nairobi, Curio Collection Hotel!! From the staff, food, rooms, and security, EVERYTHING and EVERYONE is top notch!!!! We really feel like the shining stars of this hotel is the staff, they make this hotel great!! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. We met some wonderful staff members that went above and beyond!! To name a few- Alfie, Mary, Antony, Lydah, Kevin(front desk), Grace, Purity, Saline, Anthony, Maxwell, and Imelda. We can’t remember everyone by name, but all of the staff are amazing!!! These staff members need a bonus for their hard work and dedication in making this hotel a welcoming environment!!! Thank you so much for a very rememberable stay!! Hope to see you again soon! "This Kwetu Nairobi was such a pleasant surprise. Serene, stunningly appointed, great dining options, and a wonderful location close to Westlands and downtown but nicely separate and surrounded by a calm and cool lush forest. What makes this property stand out, though, is the genuinely kind and thoughtful service by truly everyone at the Kwetu. They make you feel so welcomed. A special shout out to Stephan, Victor and Gideon at the front desk - and Francis who looks after the immaculate greenery at the hotel. Francis saw me coming back from a run carrying sneakers coated in mud and offered to take them and clean them (they’ve never looked cleaner!) - amazingly friendly service and hospitality! This is THE property to stay at in Nairobi."

"What a beautiful hotel and what a warm friendly welcome. All the staff were exceptional from the minute i arrived to the minute i left. The level of service is off the charts. On the plus side the hotel is modern, clean, a good choice of restaurants, well sized rooms with great amenities and is surrounded by lush forest. I had dinner both nights of my stay and both times it was delicious - once in the rooftop Asian restaurant and once in the Mediterranean one by the pool. Breakfast was also very good. The concierge helped me organise a stop off at the Giraffe Centre on the way to the airport on departure - it worked really well and was a great experience. On the slightly negative side i was told that i had been upgraded as a Diamond member but i realised i was actually downgraded. I had booked a Serene King Deluxe Room with Terrace. On check in they said they had upgraded me but it turns out i was put in a Serene King Deluxe (i checked when leaving) and they still tried to gaslight me that it was an upgrade - same room without a terrace. Turns out they didn't have any terrace rooms left.......quite a shame and leaves quite a bad taste to be treated like that. I was looking forward to reading a book on the terrace. Also it turned out that the room was 2 floors below the Asian restaurant and i was woken up at 11.30pm as they were dragging chairs across the restaurant floor, presumably to clean. There was also a lot of slamming doors throughout both nights of my stay - i realise that is the guests not taking care but they should put some soundproofing and slow door closing mechanisms in. If you are here for business you need to know there is no desk to put a laptop on so working was sitting on the sofa with laptop on knees or a small side table (no chairs either). It is not close to CBD and the traffic is terrible - something to be aware of. That said i would not hesitate to return given the staff and general aspects as well as dining options at the hotel."
