PB hotel design editorial

Three colonial-era Franco-Lao shophouses on Luang Prabang's Sakkaline Road, within the UNESCO-protected historic core of the old royal capital, were carefully restored and joined to form 3 Nagas Luang Prabang MGallery — one of the more honestly considered adaptive reuse projects in Indochina hospitality. The street facade, with its whitewashed render, vermilion shutters, and steeply pitched roof married to a traditional Lao timber wing, captures exactly the hybrid architectural character that earned Luang Prabang its World Heritage status in 1995. Parked outside most evenings, a burgundy Citroën Traction Avant ties the whole composition to its mid-twentieth-century French provincial moment. Inside, the property's twenty-two rooms and villas move between two distinct material registers depending on their location. Rooms in the colonial building are finished with encaustic cement-tile floors in intricate geometric patterns, bentwood cane chairs, and teak ceilings hung with cylindrical glass pendants — a dining room that has the atmosphere of a carefully edited Indochine archive, its walls lined with black-and-white photography. The garden villas shift into a warmer, more overtly Lao vernacular: deep red hardwood floors, exposed post-and-beam frames with whitewashed infill panels, four-poster canopy beds draped in white muslin, and terracotta-tiled suites that open directly onto private garden terraces. Handwoven Lao silk runners and indigo-dyed scatter cushions draw the local textile tradition through both registers with consistency.

"Our stay at 3 Nagas was an incredible experience that perfectly captures the soul and charm of Luang Prabang. Even as a more intimate boutique property, the professionalism and meticulous attention to detail from the staff were truly world-class, matching the highest standards of hospitality. The hotel’s decoration is a beautiful masterpiece, seamlessly blending authentic Lao traditions and heritage architecture with sophisticated modern comforts. One of the absolute highlights of our stay was participating in the morning Tak Bat ceremony; being able to witness and join the alms-giving to the monks right at our doorstep was a profound cultural experience that perfectly balanced tradition with the hotel's seamless service. To top off our visit, the dinner we enjoyed was nothing short of exceptional, offering refined flavors that were a true highlight of our culinary journey in Laos. We highly recommend this gem for anyone looking for a stylish, professional, and culturally immersive stay!"

"3 Nagas enhanced a wonderful week I spent in Luang Prabang. From the outset, my communications with Sarah as I looked to book my room and arrange my transport from the airport to the hotel were always pleasant and helpful. Then, Ton picked me up smoothly despite my delayed flight, and upon check-in, Xo and Tulee were highly welcoming and attentive getting me oriented. Throughout my stay in a spotless and tastefully decorated deluxe room, I was very happy. Daily breakfast was particularly appealing, as each of the main sets was delicious, and everyone was kind attending to me, notably Mandal, Alisa, Vanh and Linda. One more highlight: 3 Nagas' bicycle rental service proved a godsend when I got tired walking across the fascinating old town as well as the rest of the city beyond. All in all, I had an outstanding experience that I would enthusiastically recommend to one and all. Many thanks, 3 Nagas team!"

"I spent 3 nights at the hotel during Laos New Years. The hotel is well located on the main street of Luang Prabang. The room was spacious and clean. There was a bit of noise because of New Year celebration, but as the hotel is located on the edge of the busy part of the town, the noise (music) was not annoying while at the same time the hotel's location made it easy for me to attend the celebrations. During the day, while enjoying a beer at the restaurant, the staff encouraged me to join them in the celebrations....I had a blast. The staff are very good English speakers and made me feel at home. I want to thank Linda, Yai, Xor, Tulee and Sarah (please forgive any misspelling)."

"This intimate historic property exemplifies authenticity in its understated elegance. We had one night in a large comfortable old room tucked behind the common lounge area with private sitting area outside in the back of the building. We made the most of the location in the heart of the old town to go exploring, everything within a 5-10 minute walk away - the riverside, temples, the historic house museum, Grasshopper Yoga, restaurants, and bars. Coming back to such a 'home' was a real treat. The staff - Linela, Yai, Tu Lee, and Xoy, were so helpful with directions and transport arrangements. We only wish we had more time."
