PB hotel design editorial

Damansara Heights, one of Kuala Lumpur's most established diplomatic and commercial enclaves, provided an unlikely site for a tower whose facade geometry feels closer to contemporary European hospitality than the tropical modernism typical of the Malaysian capital. The Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara, which opened in 2016, rises within a mixed-use development, its exterior clad in a diamond-patterned aluminum skin that catches the dusk light in shifting planes of silver and blue — visible in the entrance photograph, where tapered columns frame a porte-cochère that carries a distinct French institutional gravity. The hotel brings 312 rooms across 35 floors, with interiors that balance Sofitel's signature French-meets-local design philosophy against the commercial realities of a business-district address. Inside, the rooms layer warm dark-stained timber joinery against upholstered wall panels in pale linen, the beds dressed simply and grounded by blue wave-patterned rugs — a palette that avoids the regional clichés without becoming anonymous. The all-day dining space makes the stronger design statement: geometric blue-and-white encaustic-style floor tiles, curved banquette booths upholstered in cabana stripe, and a ceiling treated as a painted canvas — handwritten text and cartographic imagery evoking an Italian coastal reference, the word Cattolica clearly legible overhead. The outdoor pool, set within a landscaped podium courtyard enclosed by the tower's glass flanks, provides the kind of urban resort atmosphere that KL's business traveller has come to expect, wood-framed sun loungers arranged against turquoise mosaic tile under navy-striped umbrellas.

"French vibes luxurious staycation place in the heart of Beverly Hills of Kuala Lumpur, Damansara with reasonable room rate. Spacious and comfortable room to improve sleep quality, aesthetic swimming pool, awesome sauna & steam facilities, great afternoon tea and evening cocktail at Club Milesime and awesome breakfast at Kwee Zeen. Thank you so much Club Milesime team (Desy, Vino, Ekbar, Salim, Putri, Anish, Saravena, Myra, Nair), Reception team (Tia, Fai), Firdaus from pool attendant, Mr Jeffry Tan, Renggasamy Krishnamoorthy & Ahmad Fuad for welcome amenities and to all Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara team for great services and hospitality."

"The above-mentioned staff were being exemplary. Let me explain further. My friend and I check in on 27 April. We arrived late. Mr Fuad and his team were so accommodating. My special requests were met. Fuad wore very genuine smiles. On the next day, Mr Hanafi recognized me after a looong absence. His great hospitality has always had warmed me. Along with his team, Harini and Ashnida were two staff which deserves to be mentioned. Also, Mr Rengga, the front desk manager should be acknowledged . He is definitely the right head to be. Lanchana, Revan and Elbar were polished gems. Lastly, La Boulangerie has one the most scrumptious pastries which do not break your bank account at all. At Least Bar, Accor elite members get to redeem beautiful and premium welcome drinks. Staff were just great. All in, this is not the last time I am revisiting , there will be more. Kudos !"

"We had a mixed stay at Sofitel.  The good is that they proactively upgraded us to a prestige suite as Accor Diamond guests.  The hotel common areas are quite posh.  The lounge is very good including a premium breakfast a la carte menu for example filet mignon.  Happy hour was also quite nice.  The less stellar aspects of the stay: the suite is a bit compact 60 sqm, smaller than average for hotels of this caliber.  Also the room itself is somewhat boring and has some similarities to a Sheraton or Hyatt Regency, rather than a normally more interesting and upscale Sofitel.  I had a bit of allergies while in the room so the ventilation system is probably not the cleanest.  For happy hour they did not allow children 5-7pm; to their credit they proposed an alternative rather than nothing at all. But nonetheless from our experience it was one of the weakest alternative offered by any hotel with a lounge where we stay: they said come right before 7pm to grab food.  For young children it's too late so it was not usable. I prefer hotels which allow to pick food at the beginning and bring to the room, or be given an alternative venue for happy hour, or they deliver something themselves to our room.  Sofitel was none of the above. Last but not least, service was not always the best.  I booked this stay in October 2025 with a buy one get one free voucher Accor Plus Malaysia expiring December 2025 for stay date April 2026.  The hotel's own reservation department confirmed this works and they provided the amended reservation confirmation.  Once arrived at the hotel they said the voucher has expired and I need to pay for the second night, I protested and they eventually let it go.  Then upon check out I asked to redeem diamond dining vouchers and they originally refused, saying that in-room dining is not eligible.  I showed them Accor rules - there is no such restriction.  They let it go as well. So overall not a bad hotel, but given the multiple choices in KL I am not sure I will rush back either."
