PB hotel design editorial

Rising above Bukit Bintang in a cylindrical tower of fluted bronze-tinted glass, the building that houses The Westin Kuala Lumpur has one of the more recognisable silhouettes on the city's mid-2000s skyline — its rounded form and scalloped crown distinguishing it from the rectangular curtain-wall towers that crowd Jalan Bukit Bintang on either side. The 35-storey structure, which opened in 2004 with 443 rooms, sits at the heart of KL's most concentrated retail and entertainment district, its curved glass podium and canopied porte-cochère stepping back from the street with a quiet formality that the surrounding commercial density makes feel almost measured. Inside, two distinct registers operate in productive tension. The guestrooms carry a clean, considered palette — pale oak flooring, deep magenta rugs, upholstered headboards in warm taupe, and arc floor lamps positioned by floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the city's tower-studded panorama on every floor. The bar strikes an entirely different note: coffered timber ceilings, veined marble tile floors, serpentine lacquered counter, dark leather club chairs, and a floor-to-ceiling glass spirits cabinet that reads as something between a colonial gentlemen's club and a contemporary cocktail lounge. The outdoor pool deck resolves the building's cylindrical geometry at ground level with a circular mosaic-tiled pool shaded by frangipani and tropical plantings, the surrounding stone terrace offering an unexpected pocket of calm within one of Southeast Asia's most kinetic urban neighbourhoods.

"A very special compliment to Hasyvini at The Westin Kuala Lumpur for her truly outstanding service and kindness. From the moment we arrived, she made my children feel so welcomed by thoughtfully offering them popcorn and drinks while we were waiting to check in. She patiently guided us to the lounge, explained everything clearly, and throughout our stay attended to every request with genuine warmth and a constant smile. What impressed us the most was her care and professionalism during the incident involving my son. She approached us with sincere concern, assisted us promptly with the room change, and continued checking on us to ensure we were comfortable. Although it may have been part of the recovery arrangement by management, the way she personally handled everything showed true hospitality and dedication. Staff like Hasyvini are the reason guests remember a hotel experience. Her kindness, attentiveness, and positive attitude truly made a difference to our family, and she deserves strong recognition for the excellent service she provides."

"The living room experience. A partimer served with a pretty smile and kind gesture captured my attention during my morning meal. Her name was Shima. Please consider employing her as a full time worker. It is not easy to find one as warm as her."

"Had lunch at Splash while my son enjoyed the pool. This was my second time here. The menu has changed quite a lot, and I do miss the Philly steak sandwich — it was really good during my last visit and I was hoping to have it again. While enjoying our lunch, Nithya came over to greet us and immediately recognized me, as she was the one who served us during my previous visit. She was friendly, attentive, and very helpful throughout. It felt nice meeting her again. Overall, I really enjoy dining here and look forward to my next stay soon."
