PB hotel design editorial

Rising above Bukit Bintang in a cylindrical tower of fluted bronze-tinted glass, the building that houses The Westin Kuala Lumpur has one of the more recognisable silhouettes on the city's mid-2000s skyline — its rounded form and scalloped crown distinguishing it from the rectangular curtain-wall towers that crowd Jalan Bukit Bintang on either side. The 35-storey structure, which opened in 2004 with 443 rooms, sits at the heart of KL's most concentrated retail and entertainment district, its curved glass podium and canopied porte-cochère stepping back from the street with a quiet formality that the surrounding commercial density makes feel almost measured. Inside, two distinct registers operate in productive tension. The guestrooms carry a clean, considered palette — pale oak flooring, deep magenta rugs, upholstered headboards in warm taupe, and arc floor lamps positioned by floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the city's tower-studded panorama on every floor. The bar strikes an entirely different note: coffered timber ceilings, veined marble tile floors, serpentine lacquered counter, dark leather club chairs, and a floor-to-ceiling glass spirits cabinet that reads as something between a colonial gentlemen's club and a contemporary cocktail lounge. The outdoor pool deck resolves the building's cylindrical geometry at ground level with a circular mosaic-tiled pool shaded by frangipani and tropical plantings, the surrounding stone terrace offering an unexpected pocket of calm within one of Southeast Asia's most kinetic urban neighbourhoods.

"We have booked 3 stays over the next month with a break to visit penang...in my view many hotels get good or excellent reviews because they provide quality service and amenities as the westin does...the true test of a hotels quality and commitment to customer care is when things go wrong....in my case we arrived on the 21st as per my booking albeit at 12pm...expecting to drop luggage and go out browsing....pleasantly surprised room was ready...so we were checked in...I checked my App and realised that my booking had been changed to the 20th ( we had stayed at kl airport hotel)...I expect when I emailed the hotel and explained we would arrive early at midday someone changed the booking to Monday!!! But AILEEN was brilliant within minutes she had sorted the issue out..ensured that there would be no charge for the 20th and upgraded us to a suite....whilst I was annoyed at the error initially and was considering cancelling our other 2 bookings...her commitment to customer service was outstanding. As fir the hotel itself...we cone to KL every year and this will now be our hotel of choice rooms are excellent..lounge is superb..Raheem and Karen very polite and helpful...location excellent It's only been 1 day and we have 7 left..but very impressed."

"We’ve had a wonderful stay so far at the Westin Kuala Lumpur. The pool area has been a highlight for our family, and Rahmad truly went above and beyond to make our time there special. Whether in the game room or by the pool, he was attentive, kind, and seemed to anticipate our needs before we even had to ask, especially making the experience so enjoyable for my daughter. The front desk team was also very welcoming and attentive, and we were grateful to receive an upgrade to a one-bedroom residence, which made our stay even more comfortable. Housekeeping has been immaculate throughout. Overall, it’s been a really comfortable and enjoyable stay, and we would absolutely return."

"Had an excellent stay as always. Felt extremely well rested and rejuvenated. Great hospitality by Westin KL team. I would say the best Marriott Bonvoy hotel KL if not for St Regis KL."

"Not worth to stay here due to very old and out dated facilities. The charger will be the issue because you may need to try several times but still get the troubles, and call the engineers twice to fix it. The breakfast area is needed to go to the lobby first and step in the stairs to the breakfast. It is an old design and not friendly. The only good thing is the location you can easily reach many spots. Won’t consider to stay here because you may get more headaches than the good services."

"Nice hotel. Well located and good facilities. Most importantly, great staff! Worthy of a mention, Vince at the executive lounge (intern serving the bar) was so good with great hospitality skills. And Adlin, one of the chefs at the lounge, so lovely and kind and a great chef. Will come back again!"
