PB hotel design editorial

Three private islands spread across South Malé Atoll give Anantara Dhigu Resort a geography that most Maldivian properties can only approximate — the resort's 110 villas distributed between Dhigu, Veli, and Nalaguraidhoo in a configuration that keeps the lagoon feeling genuinely wild rather than domesticated. The overwater villas, visible in a long thatched procession above the shallows, follow the vernacular tropical formula: steeply pitched roofs in woven thatch, dark-stained timber frames, and sun-bleached decking extending directly over water so transparent it barely registers as a surface. Inside, the interiors settle into the warm, crafted register that Minor Hotels has established across its Anantara portfolio — exposed teak ceiling rafters left structurally honest overhead, dark hardwood floors, and headboards built from layered panels of carved and textured wood in a low-relief technique that gestures toward Maldivian lacquerwork traditions. Cushions and bed runners carry the resort's signature palette of turquoise and ivory, grounding each villa in its lagoon context without straining for novelty. The main restaurant, photographed here at dusk, takes a more architecturally confident turn: a whitewashed open structure with exposed steel-and-timber trusses suspended beneath a cathedral pitch, anchored by an oversized woven rattan pendant light of considerable scale — handcraft deployed as focal point rather than decoration. The kidney-shaped resort pool curves along the beach edge, its geometry following the shoreline rather than imposing on it.

"Our stay at Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, every single detail was handled with so much care, warmth, and professionalism. A very special thank you to Sandi, who made us feel welcomed and taken care of throughout our entire stay. She was incredibly kind, attentive, and always went above and beyond for us. Huge thanks as well to Betty, Ammar, Mustafa, Rafeeq, Ali Ammar, Adnan, and Jailam for making our experience so special. Whether it was during the activities, water sports, snorkeling, scuba diving, restaurants, or simply throughout the resort, everyone was so friendly, helpful, and genuinely caring. The hospitality at this resort is truly exceptional, and what made the trip even more memorable was how every staff member treated us like family. Even if we forgot to mention someone by name, every single person we met was amazing and deserves appreciation. Thank you for giving us such beautiful memories. We can’t wait to come back again soon 🤍"

"The resort offers an incredibly diverse selection of delicious dining options. All guest rooms are spotlessly clean, bright and cosy. Every staff member on the island is warm, polite and approachable. The ocean scenery here is breathtaking beyond words. Special thanks go to our personal butler Simah, who is always patient, amiable and super efficient in responding to all our needs. I also highly recommend the spa experience. Sheila, Therapist Kadek, gave me an extremely comfortable and soothing massage. Besides, front desk staff Petra was so friendly and enthusiastic throughout our stay. We had an amazing and unforgettable holiday here, and we would definitely love to come back again!"

"One of the best family resorts in the Maldives We had such a wonderful stay at Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort and honestly, this resort offers one of the best price-value combinations I have experienced in the Maldives. What makes this destination especially unique is the entire island concept: three beautiful sister resorts located together in one stunning lagoon: * Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort – ideal for families * Anantara Veli Maldives Resort – the adults-only island * Naladhu Private Island Maldives – an intimate ultra-luxury private island A very special mention also goes to Jason, the fantastic General Manager of the complex, whose warm and professional leadership can truly be felt throughout the resorts. The location is excellent — only around 25 minutes by speedboat from Malé — making it incredibly convenient while still offering the full Maldives feeling. The villas are beautifully designed in a traditional Maldivian style with charming thatched roofs, lined along a breathtaking turquoise lagoon. Personally, I actually think the entry category Sunrise Beach Villas are already a fantastic option if sunset views are not essential for you. Especially during the windier low season, I even preferred this side of the island. There are however a few villa numbers with less attractive views, so I would recommend asking for a nicely positioned villa when booking. Regarding the private pools: they are rather small, so personally I would not necessarily pay the extra charge unless travelling with younger children who enjoy splashing around — then it absolutely makes sense. The breakfast buffet was truly outstanding. Huge selection, exceptional quality and so much healthy food: fresh fruits, cereals, seeds, healthy dishes — but also international cuisine from all over the world. There was even sushi, Maldivian specialties and classic English breakfast options. You sit beautifully shaded in the semi-open main restaurant and it feels incredibly relaxed. One of the biggest highlights is the dine-around concept. Even on normal half board, guests can dine in many different restaurants across the islands, including restaurants on the adults-only island Anantara Veli. Families are also welcome there for dinner, which creates amazing variety throughout the stay. Another lovely feature is the small picnic island nearby. Depending on the tide, you can even walk or swim through the crystal-clear turquoise lagoon to reach it. Such a beautiful little addition to the experience. For snorkeling lovers, there are definitely better islands in the Maldives — but for families, accessibility, variety and overall value, this resort is honestly exceptional. And now the biggest praise of all: the Kids Club. Our daughter absolutely did not want to leave. The team there is truly incredible and offers so many activities completely free of charge: T-shirt painting, bracelet making, games, crafts and so much more. The children are genuinely cared for and entertained with real warmth and attention. Another wonderful detail: every guest gets bicycles — including children — which always creates that perfect carefree Maldives island feeling. We will come back!"

"Our stay at Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort was truly unforgettable and exceeded all our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and hospitality that made us feel special throughout our entire honeymoon. We enjoyed so many amazing activities during our stay, including fishing trips, a beautiful dolphin sunset cruise, snorkeling adventures, and a private romantic dinner on the beach as part of our honeymoon package. Every experience was perfectly organized and created memories we will cherish forever. The food was absolutely incredible in every single restaurant — not only delicious, but the portions were also very generous. Every meal felt like a fine dining experience, and we honestly loved everything we tried. What made this resort even more special were the people. Everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. A very special thank you to Mr. Kadir, our host, who was simply amazing. He helped us with everything during our stay and always made sure we were comfortable and happy. He even took his personal time to do a beach photoshoot for me and my wife, giving us beautiful memories from our honeymoon that we will treasure forever. We would also like to thank Dhaish on Gulhifushi Island for his helpful snorkeling advice and kindness. His recommendations made our snorkeling experience even more enjoyable. This resort was worth every single penny, and we are already looking forward to coming back again in the future. Highly recommended for couples, honeymooners, and anyone looking for a truly luxurious and memorable Maldives experience!"
