PB hotel design editorial

Three private islands spread across South Malé Atoll give Anantara Dhigu Resort a geography that most Maldivian properties can only approximate — the resort's 110 villas distributed between Dhigu, Veli, and Nalaguraidhoo in a configuration that keeps the lagoon feeling genuinely wild rather than domesticated. The overwater villas, visible in a long thatched procession above the shallows, follow the vernacular tropical formula: steeply pitched roofs in woven thatch, dark-stained timber frames, and sun-bleached decking extending directly over water so transparent it barely registers as a surface. Inside, the interiors settle into the warm, crafted register that Minor Hotels has established across its Anantara portfolio — exposed teak ceiling rafters left structurally honest overhead, dark hardwood floors, and headboards built from layered panels of carved and textured wood in a low-relief technique that gestures toward Maldivian lacquerwork traditions. Cushions and bed runners carry the resort's signature palette of turquoise and ivory, grounding each villa in its lagoon context without straining for novelty. The main restaurant, photographed here at dusk, takes a more architecturally confident turn: a whitewashed open structure with exposed steel-and-timber trusses suspended beneath a cathedral pitch, anchored by an oversized woven rattan pendant light of considerable scale — handcraft deployed as focal point rather than decoration. The kidney-shaped resort pool curves along the beach edge, its geometry following the shoreline rather than imposing on it.

"Our romantic getaway at Anantara Dighu was just perfect. We stayed in a Sunrise Villa with beach access, and waking up to walk straight from the room into the ocean for a morning snorkel was the highlight of our daily routine. The best part of this resort is the variety; you aren't confined to just one spot. They provide bikes for everyone, which we loved using to explore the island and get around easily. We also enjoyed being able to hop over to their sister island Veli for breakfast at the Cumin and the incredible sushi at Origami. Back on the Dighu side, Sea.Fire.Salt. was another standout for us—the food and the setting were both spot on. What really made the trip feel "premium" without being stiff was our Villa Host Sandi. She was amazing—we just messaged her on WhatsApp whenever we needed anything, and she handled all our reservations and activity bookings like a personal butler. It made the whole experience totally seamless so we could just focus on snorkeling and relaxing. Even the beach service was effortless — Xavier was always around at just the right moment to keep us topped up with fresh coconut water while we were lounging by the beach. If you're looking for a high-end escape that gives you plenty of variety and top-tier service, this is definitely the place."

"We had a wonderful stay at Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort and overall really enjoyed our experience. One of the biggest highlights was the service — especially from Ram. He was incredibly attentive, friendly, and always ready to help with anything we needed. His professionalism and warm attitude truly made our stay more comfortable and memorable. The resort itself is beautiful, with a great concept of three islands in one system, which gives variety and allows you to explore different restaurants and атмосpheres during your stay. The food was very good — both the buffet and à la carte restaurants. We especially enjoyed the teppanyaki show — more of a fun experience than just a dinner. The villas are nice, and it’s important to choose the right category depending on your preferences, as some views are definitely better than others. If I had to mention one downside, it would be the proximity to Malé. While it makes the transfer very convenient, in some areas you can see local islands with buildings, which slightly affects the “remote island” feeling. Overall, it’s a great resort with excellent service, and I would definitely consider coming back."
