Thaa Atoll sits at the southern edge of the Maldives' inhabited atolls, far enough from Malé that reaching COMO Maalifushi requires a forty-minute seaplane crossing — a journey that effectively puts the Indian Ocean between guests and the rest of the world. That geographical remove shaped everything about the resort when it opened in 2014: the 65 villas arranged across a private island and its surrounding lagoon, the unhurried atmosphere, and an interior language drawn from the COMO group's signature restraint rather than the maximalist tropical excess that characterises so many competitors in the archipelago. The overwater and beach villas, designed with COMO's in-house team, work through a palette of weathered teak, pale linen, and thatch — materials that weather honestly and recede into the lagoon light rather than competing with it. Four-poster beds draped in gauze mosquito netting anchor each bedroom, the canopy framing the water view as deliberately as any picture window. Exposed timber roof structure gives the interior volume without weight. At the pool terrace, a curving infinity edge dissolves into the beach, teak decking edged with smooth river pebbles and shaded by coconut palms bending in the trade wind. The dining deck at dusk — wicker-armed chairs, candlelit tables arranged along the pool edge as the sky moves through amber and rose — captures exactly the calibrated informality that COMO has refined across its resort properties over two decades.

About

Maalifushi by COMO is the first luxury resort in the Maldives to open in the pristine Thaa Atoll in the archipelago’s southwest. With overwater villas and garden suites, Maalifushi is therefore the ultimate away-from-it-all destination for families, couples, surfers and divers. There are some excellent breaks nearby as well as a string of uninhabited private islands, where whale shark sightings are common.

"What a fantastic trip start to finish. The week spent at Como Maalifushi was certainly one to remember. The staff couldn’t have been more supportive, we had a fantastic host, Kamilla, where no ask was too big and she made our stay even more special. The food was incredible - Chef Dika made the stay feel so personal and it was fantastic to spend time with him and try his food, couldn’t speak more highly! We will certainly be back again soon. 100% recommend."

"Just came back from an amazing 5-day family getaway at COMO Maalifushi, and I can’t recommend it enough! We stayed in an overwater villa as a family of four, and it was absolutely perfect. The villa was spotless, beautifully designed, and incredibly comfortable—waking up to the ocean every day was such a treat. It felt private, peaceful, and ideal for both relaxation and quality family time. The food was consistently good throughout our stay, with a nice variety that kept everyone happy. Whether it was breakfast or relaxed dinners, every meal was enjoyable. A special thank you to Kamilla, who took such great care of us during our stay. Her attentiveness and warm hospitality really made the experience even more memorable. Overall, it was a wonderful experience—great accommodation, delicious food, and a serene atmosphere that made it easy to unwind. Definitely a memorable family holiday!"

"What an amazing week we had at COMO Maalifushi. From the moment we stepped onto the beautiful island and were welcomed with fresh coconut, a sense of relaxation instantly took over. We were taken to our stunning Water Villa, which was simply out of this world — spacious, beautifully designed, and surrounded by endless turquoise water. Waking up each morning to the Indian Ocean and stepping straight from the villa into the sea is something we will never forget. Our butler Saddam ensured we had everything we needed throughout our stay. After showing us to our villa, he handed us our bikes, which quickly became our favourite and wonderfully relaxing way to explore the island. Cycling slowly through palm trees between the beach, restaurants and spa perfectly captures the calm rhythm of life on the island. On our first evening we dined at Tai, the Japanese restaurant, and had a superb experience right by the water’s edge. The food was exceptional and the service truly outstanding. Towards the end of the evening Chef Dika came to greet us, and what started as a quick chat turned into a long conversation about food, travel and the island — the beginning of a lovely friendship. Over the following days Chef Dika kindly treated us to several of his creative dishes, many with an Asian-fusion twist, each one memorable. Special mentions also go to Neha, Lucky and Shiraz, whose personal attention was remarkable. If we asked for a particular ingredient to be omitted from a dish, they remembered it for every future visit. They also knew our favourite wine and even kept track of our slightly complicated water routine! 🤣 It is this level of genuine care that makes the service here feel so personal. The house reef and marine life were also wonderful. Snorkelling directly from the island we saw reef sharks, rays, turtles and an incredible variety of tropical fish. The water clarity is extraordinary and the reef feels vibrant and alive. We also had the opportunity to dive, which was another highlight of the trip. The dive team were professional, relaxed and clearly passionate about the marine environment. The COMO Shambhala spa deserves special mention as well. The setting is peaceful and beautiful, and the treatments are exceptional — the perfect complement to the island’s calm and restorative atmosphere. What truly sets COMO Maalifushi apart, however, is the combination of natural beauty, understated luxury, and the warmth of the people who work there. By the end of the week it genuinely felt like leaving friends behind. We arrived hoping for a relaxing holiday — and left with memories that will stay with us for a very long time."

"A perfect holiday at an exceptional resort: From the moment we arrived at COMO Maalifushi, we were welcomed with genuine warmth—and that feeling continued throughout our entire stay. Whether in the restaurants, at the bar, during the many activities, or through the personalized service, the hospitality was consistently attentive and authentic. Our personal host, Naail, impressed us with his professionalism, discretion, and effortless approachability. He was always available for our questions and requests without ever being intrusive, handling everything efficiently and with great care. Our Water Villa was simply stunning: sunshine from morning until sunset, a private pool, and direct access to the ocean—perfect conditions for peaceful, relaxing days in complete privacy. In addition, the resort offers a wide range of activities, including dolphin safaris, yoga, padel tennis, and numerous water sports. Snorkeling at the house reef is possible at any time and is truly a highlight: in crystal-clear waters, you can encounter an impressive variety of fish and sea turtles. Alternatively, guided boat excursions provide the opportunity to explore even more fascinating underwater worlds. The cuisine was outstanding—diverse, creative, and of exceptional quality. Every meal was complemented by a breathtaking atmosphere that perfectly reflects the unique character of the resort. At COMO Maalifushi, the Maldives reveal themselves at their very best."
