Spread across a private island in Raa Atoll — one of the northernmost and most remote atolls in the Maldives, a 45-minute seaplane ride from Malé — Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa opened in 2019 as the flagship property of the Italian-owned Emerald Collection, bringing a distinctly Mediterranean sensibility to an archipelago where design ambition is measured against the Indian Ocean on every side. The aerial view reveals the resort's dual grammar: low-slung beach villas threaded through dense palm canopy along the island's spine, and a curving jetty of overwater villas extending into the lagoon like a strand of beads laid against the reef. The interiors navigate a tension between crisp white-painted walls and warm tropical materiality — light oak herringbone floors, dark-stained timber bed frames, and custom blue loop-pile rugs anchoring rooms whose dominant feature is the lagoon itself, framed by floor-to-ceiling sliding glass. Coral-form carved wooden wall sculptures and vivid marine-life artwork give each villa a sense of place without resorting to cliché. Thatched overwater canopies above the private plunge decks borrow their geometry from traditional Maldivian dhoni craft-building, the woven palm frond roofing setting a deliberate counterpoint to the rooms' contemporary finish. The signature sand-floor restaurant, sheltered beneath a soaring bamboo-pole structure draped in red bead chandeliers, delivers the most atmospheric space on the island — part jungle clearing, part ceremonial hall.

"Absolutely the best holiday we have ever had. Yes, I can on about the location, but Emerald is special. Everything has been thought out from the location of the restaurants to the accommodation and the sunrise and sunset bars. The level of food and service is second to none and nothing was too much trouble from any of the kind and attentive staff. Wisham our villa host was attentive, kind and informative and booked everything we wanted. Having special breakfasts cooked by the executive chef is an experience I will never forget and the dinner on the beach experience was out of this world. We saw dolphins on the lucky dolphin trip which is included in your premium inclusive package. Room service isn’t included but if you have a villa pool you can pay for the floating breakfast, which is amazing and worth the money. It arrives bang on time, hot and delicious. Nothing can prepare you for the level of hospitality at this resort and you will find nothing and I mean nothing to complain about. Well done to the whole team for making our experience unforgettable. ❤️❤️"

"This was our first trip to the Maldives and it won’t be our last. Yes, the Maldives is a beautiful destination - white sand, turquoise waters, relaxation etc - which will be the experience at pretty much all of the wonderful resorts - but what made this special holiday so doubly wonderful was this fantastic resort - the staff, food, rooms and the facilities all blew us away. The staff - WOW - exceptional service, work so hard and wonderful people. We felt so welcomed by all and nothing was too much trouble and all smiley and engaging. I would thank all personally if I knew everyone’s name but special shout outs to Wisham, our villa host for his ability to sort anything, Pawan (the Spurs and Cricket fan!) for his service on the beach and super friendly engagement, Nitin and Chris (the wine expert/sommelier) in the restaurants the and Jailam the cleaner. The food - WOW - we were blown away by the quality of the food and extensive choice - all was delicious and freshly made in all of the restaurants and the gala dinner on the Thursday was top!! The rooms - WOW - we were lucky to stay in a water villa with pool which was fabulous and perfect, like new - exceptionally well maintained and spacious (the bathroom is bigger than my house) So nothing more to say other than 1) WOW, 2) thank you Emerald team, 3) Go here and 4) We will be back !!!!"

"The water villa was amazing, the snorkeling was fantastic, and the excursions to see dolphins and manta rays were truly memorable. The food was excellent—especially at the Beach Club Grill and Amazonico. I would like to specifically highlight Chef Alok for his fantastic and empathetic approach, as well as for preparing several special dishes just for us… in return, I even shared my tip for the perfect way to prepare beef ribs :-) Also, a big thank you to all three sommeliers—great guys with excellent recommendations. Special mention as well to Pawan for his tireless effort to fulfill every request we had, and to our butler Shafi, who helped us with many things throughout our stay. It truly is a paradise on earth, and we would love to come back one day. Jakub"

"This was our third consecutive annual holiday at Emerald Resort and Spa and the resort seems to get better each time. The principal improvement this time was that the service on Sunset beach was a massive step up from previous years - Pawan was brilliant, extremely efficient with towels and drinks, very friendly and interested in conversation. Of course all of the staff are excellent, friendly and efficient; from the Food and Beverage Department (run most efficiently by KD and Executive Chef Alok) to the waiting staff, the room guys and the Butlers (thanks Sid for the second year!) everyone seems intent on maintaining a cheerful and welcoming atmosphere which is so relaxing. We like the a la carte restaurants which provide for good variation of food styles and the wine list is quite impressive for an AI resort. We aren't keen on buffets but make an exception for the weekly Exotic Gala Dinner which is done well and on a grand scale - it is only at that function that one can appreciate there are quite a lot of guests at the resort - for most of the time it is very quiet and uncluttered. We did a couple of complimentary dolphin cruises and of course saw lots of dolphins and also a couple of snorkelling trips which were very good - the boat crews are helpful and the snorkelling led by marine biologist Marina was very interesting and well led. The villa was quite luxurious (huge bathroom) and modern; also very well maintained and serviced. We have several holidays during the year but Emerald is certainly our favourite as we look forward to next year."

"Absolutely our best experience in the Maldives so far. Staff is the best I have ever seen. Our villa host Sid was very very professional. In general the hotel looks good but it is the service and the food what made us book it again for next year."
