PB hotel design editorial

One of the earliest luxury properties to establish the Maldives as a serious destination for design-conscious travellers, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa has sat on its reef-ringed island in North Malé Atoll since 1998, quietly defining the visual language that the region's hospitality industry has been reworking ever since. The overwater bungalow typology, the thatched pavilion roofline against flat atoll water, the wooden jetty threading guests out above the lagoon — Kuda Huraa crystallised all of it before the Maldives became shorthand for aspirational escapism. The aerial view confirms the compositional logic: a crescent of overwater villas extending from the island's eastern tip, their cadamba-thatched roofs stepping in disciplined sequence above turquoise shallows, while a sweeping kidney-form infinity pool curves along the beach edge, lined in dark stone and framed by a thatched meditation pavilion at the water's end. Inside the villas, the interiors deploy a palette drawn from lagoon and reef — cerulean wall panels, woven-grass ceiling linings stretched across dark-stained timber trusses, dhurrie-patterned rugs in indigo and chalk, and dark-framed joinery set against white-rendered walls. The effect is calm rather than spare. The resort's signature restaurant, Baraabaru, works a different register entirely: hammered bronze column lanterns, carved Balinese-inflected detail, frangipani-scented terraces, and a thatched overwater dining gazebo that becomes, at dusk, one of the more atmospheric dining rooms in the Indian Ocean.

"My first stay at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa was wonderful💖🌦️🕶️👒 Although I heard it’s one of the older Four Seasons resorts in the Maldives, it had everything I needed—clean, spacious rooms with beautiful sea views, a relaxing atmosphere, and very friendly, attentive staff. I was looking for a peaceful getaway, and this was the perfect place to unwind. Special thanks to Ahmed - the Egyptian guy from the beach team - he was incredibly kind and attentive, making sure everyone was comfortable with cold towels, water, and great service throughout the day. His thoughtful touches, like offering pineapple ice cream on hot days, made the experience even more special. Thank you for the warm hospitality!"

"We had an amazing stay at Kuda Huraa. We were slightly worried about the close proximity to Male and the age of the property. But, I am happy to say this restort is beautiful and perfect in every way. The mature landscaping that only a well established property can have only adds to the overall experience. It's just incredible. The villas are extremely modern and up to date, and the overall property is in amazing condition. Couple this with top-notch Four Seasons service and our stay was exceptional. We enjoyed every moment. Special thanks to Amandine and Danu at the Sunset Lounge for making everyday special and providing the absolute best in hospitality and service. All of our meals were exceptional and we highly recommend that anyone visiting try all of the restaurant options. Kandu Grill had amazing meats, Baraabaru had the best Indian cuisine we have ever eaten, and the Reef Club offered amazing pasta dishes for dinner and pizzas for lunch, and, of course, Cafe Huraa offered up the most amazing breakfast to start each day. We stayed in a sunrise beach villa during our visit. The villa itself was well appointed, extremely clean, and beautifully decorated. The outdoor space, including the private pool, was the perfect place to enjoy anytime of the day. Snorkeling along the sunrise beach was absolutely amazing. Being able to walk right out of our villa and into the water to see beautiful marine life was a highlight to our stay. The spa was another highlight. We had the most amazing and relaxing treatments. Special thanks to Mira for her amazing technique that left us totally relaxed. All in and all we absolutely loved our stay at Kuda Huraa and we highly recommend it."
