PB hotel design editorial

Spread across a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve island in Baa Atoll — one of the most ecologically protected marine environments on earth — the Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru has always had to justify its presence as much as announce it. Opened in 2006, the resort was designed with that tension at its center: 103 villas arranged across dense palm interior and over the lagoon, their thatched rooflines kept deliberately low within the canopy, the overwater structures extending along timber jetties in a configuration that follows the reef's natural geometry rather than imposing a grid upon it. From above, the island retains the silhouette of somewhere largely untouched. The interiors, refreshed in recent years with a palette that draws the lagoon's colour spectrum indoors, work in a register closer to a considered coastal residence than conventional resort design. Sheer canopied four-poster beds in blackened steel sit against navy wainscoting, the wall treatment anchoring rooms that might otherwise dissolve entirely into white and light. Woven rattan trunks at the bed foot, stone-cast bedside tables, and blue-striped dhurrie rugs ground the villas materially without heaviness. In the main restaurant, clusters of oversized black woven pendant lights hang from a white-painted pitched ceiling above wicker and teak dining chairs — a contrast that gives the open-sided pavilion an interior logic even as the Indian Ocean fills every sightline beyond the louvered shutters.

"I spend 5 nights here and had an amazing experience. There are many 5 star hotels in Maldives but this one is special. I especially enjoyed all the foods and the quality of the foods. Asian dishes tastes great very much liken what I’m used to in Asia. The Italian food was equally impressive. Perfect experience definitely coming back again."

Everything exceeded my expectations , the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, the room was above and beyond my thoughts with the view on the pool and Beach both, and the overall atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable. Every detail was well taken care of, and I truly felt valued as a guest. I was very happy with everything during my stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to others. "From the arrival at the jetty, the resort’s staff gave us a wonderful greeting. The resort felt welcoming, and exclusive. The Villa Our original plan was to stay at the beach villa with pool but we changed to the family beach villa with pool. Upon entering the villa, I was impressed by how the villa was merged with nature so much yet somehow felt modern and super comfortable. From the huge indoor space to the pool and the beach, the size of the villa was absolutely massive. The best feature of the villa is the cozy and modern feel it gives you but in a way that you don’t sacrifice space and nature. The villa’s servicing was also very nice, they will clean the pool every day and they also will tidy the sand floor at the pavilion. Dining experience Breakfast: There are two options, Cafe Landaa or Blu. Cafe Landaa’s buffet quality was spectacular, there was a wide variety of food to choose from and most of them were delicious. Blui’s breakfast was also very nice, the Maldivian Breakfast set might not be your style, but it is still a must try menu. My fav restaurant: My favorite breakfast choice is Cafe Landaa, and for lunch and dinner, the best choice for me was Blu. The atmosphere at Blu was very nice because of the beach next to the restaurant and the view of the beach and the water villa. The food was very delicious and didn’t feel too heavy. My favorite dish at the restaurant is the margherita pizza, the pizza had a really nice crust and the sauce was very rich. Overall experience: Across all of the restaurants, the service was very nice, the food’s consistency was very impressive, and the attention to detail was amazing. Service Upon arrival at the jetty, the staff’s welcoming was amazing. While checking in, they offered us coconut water, and gave us a tour of the island with the buggy. The service felt warm and friendly but at the same time it also felt very professional. The service was decently personalized and the interactions felt very natural. The restaurant's service was also very nice and they remembered your personal preference. Anywhere on the island, the service was great and they deeply and truly have the soul of warmth. Things to Do There were a lot of activities to do at the island. The nature of Baa Atoll made it very nice to snorkel and dive. During the “Manta Safari” activity, we saw 20 manta rays snorkeling and it was truly a wonderful experience. There are water sports, fishing, dolphin cruise, spa, and more to do at the island. I don’t suggest trying to do all the activities because it will be very tiring and you won’t enjoy it as much. The main activities you should try are snorkeling, diving, dolphin cruise, manta safari / manta-on-call, and spa. The service at the activities was also spectacular, the staff was friendly, and they will clearly tell you things that you must know. Diving Experience I recommend to anyone who has the physical ability to try the “Ready to Get Certified?” beginner diving course. It’s a course of around 3~4 days that will make you certified as a “PADI open water diver” and it also will bring joy and a new underwater world to you and I guarantee it will be an unforgettable experience. The maldivian sea was very nice to dive, all the aquatic life underwater was absolutely beautiful. My instructor, Ronaldo, was very kind and the passion he brought to us every dive was very nice, and he was also very thoughtful and professional. He helped us to get certified as a PADI open water diver from an absolute beginner, and the journey he brought to us was just pure joy and it sure was an unforgettable experience. I spent almost over half of my time during the stay on this course yet I still think that this was the single most valuable experience for me. Final Thoughts I was there at the start of the rainy season in Maldives, I think that it is still absolutely worth coming here during rainy seasons. I recommend anyone to come here at this resort, it is suitable for couples, families, and just everyone. I think I will definitely come here again, it was a truly spectacular and unforgettable experience."

"This resort in Maldives gives you everything you can ask for and more. The Villa Our overwater bungalow was stunning — waking up to turquoise lagoon views and stepping straight off the deck into warm, crystal-clear water never got old. Immaculate, private, and utterly peaceful. Dining All meals were fresh, creative, and beautifully presented and special care was taken by all staff on certain dietary restrictions and also what my son would like. My son also got the opportunity to make his own pizza which was a thrill. The People — especially Sandeep Mohan This is where the resort truly sets itself apart. The service is warm, intuitive, and genuinely personal. Sandeep Mohan deserves a special mention — he anticipated our needs before we even asked and made us feel like valued guests throughout. A real credit to the property. Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru doesn’t just meet expectations — it resets them entirely. The staff went overboard to curate private experiences which just made us feel special. We’ll be back.Red"
