PB hotel design editorial

A private island in South Malé Atoll, barely larger than the resort it contains, sets the terms for everything at Naladhu Private Island Maldives — an intimate collection of just 20 houses distributed across a densely vegetated coral island where the beach curves uninterrupted on all sides and the surrounding reef shifts from turquoise shallows to deep ocean blue within a few hundred metres. The scale is the design statement: where many Maldivian properties push villa counts into the hundreds, Naladhu commits to exclusivity as a structural principle, with each house commanding a generous stretch of beach or lagoon frontage. The interiors work a confident tropical-contemporary register — steeply pitched roofs with dark-stained timber rafters exposed against white-painted ceilings, wide-plank hardwood floors, and carved lattice screens that filter light without blocking the ocean view. Beds sit on low platform frames in dark wengé-toned timber, dressed in white linen with teal accent cushions that echo the lagoon outside. Private pools cut flush to timber decking, and suspended hanging daybeds on oceanfront terraces give the water villas an unhurried, residential quality that distinguishes them from the more theatrical gestures common in the atoll. The main pavilion, with its sweeping thatch canopy undulating across a generous open-air deck furnished in woven rattan and stone-topped side tables, draws the island's material vocabulary together at dusk in a way that feels less like hospitality design and more like a well-considered private house.

"Our stay at Naladhu Maldives was absolutely incredible from start to finish. The island is breathtakingly beautiful, peaceful, and truly feels like a private paradise. Every detail is thoughtfully taken care of, from the stunning villas and crystal-clear water to the amazing food and world-class hospitality. What made our experience even more special was the outstanding service. A special thank you to Aslam, who went above and beyond to make sure every part of our stay was perfect. He was always kind, attentive, professional, and genuinely cared about making our vacation unforgettable. His hospitality truly made a difference. If you're looking for a luxurious, relaxing getaway with exceptional service, Naladhu is the perfect destination. We left with unforgettable memories and can't wait to come back. Highly recommended!"

"This was our second stay at Naladhu Private Island Maldives, and once again it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfectly organized. We were met at the airport, transferred by speedboat in just 20 minutes, and even though we arrived early, our villa was ready and we were checked in at 9:00 AM. We were also delighted that the team accommodated our request to stay in the same villa we had enjoyed during our previous visit. One of the things that makes Naladhu truly unique is its location next to Anantara Dhigu and Anantara Veli. As a Naladhu guest, you have full access to both neighboring resorts and can enjoy all of their restaurants, beaches, pools, and facilities. One island is just a one minute boat ride away, while the other is connected by a bridge. It feels like staying at three luxury resorts in one, with an incredible variety of dining options including Japanese, Thai, Italian, seafood, and international cuisine. A very special thank you to our Kuwaanu Sulvaan He made our stay exceptional. Every reservation, every request, and every detail was handled with genuine care and professionalism. He checked on us every day, made sure our villa was always perfect, and did everything possible to make our holiday unforgettable. His outstanding hospitality is one of the reasons we will happily return again. Another detail we truly appreciated was the flexibility on our departure day. Our flight was late at night, so instead of asking us to check out at noon, the resort allowed us to enjoy the island until the evening and arranged our speedboat transfer directly to the airport at the time we requested. Having an extra full day in paradise was the perfect ending to an unforgettable holiday. Thank you to the entire Naladhu team. We cannot wait to return for a third visit. Highly recommended!"

"We returned to Naladhu for our second stay, and it felt even more like home than the first time. I know that sounds like a cliché, but some places have that effect on you. You arrive, settle in, and within a few hours feel as though you belong there. The welcome at Naladhu is always special. We were greeted with coconuts, flower petals, the traditional shell-blowing ceremony, and the words, “Welcome home.” It did not feel scripted. It felt genuine. That is perhaps the best thing about Naladhu: it is small, relaxed, personal, and full of people who seem genuinely happy to see you. We stayed again in an Ocean villa with a pool and a private beach cabana. I have said this before, but I would happily live in one of these villas. The dark wood, colonial touches, oversized deck, swing, pool, steam room, outdoor bath, and endless ocean in front of you make it feel more like a beautiful vacation home than a hotel room. Sitting outside in the morning with coffee, watching the waves break beyond the deck, is one of those things that sounds simple but feels completely perfect when you are there. Naladhu itself is a small, very green island with mature palm trees, lovely pathways, flowers, and a beautiful lagoon-facing beach. You can walk around the island in a few minutes, but there is enough space and privacy that it never feels crowded. Each Ocean House has its own cabana and sunbeds on the lagoon side, which became one of our favorite spots during the day. The lagoon is gorgeous, especially when the sun is out. We saw rays, a turtle, a small shark, and plenty of fish. Our son had a wonderful time, there too, and one of the most meaningful moments of the trip was seeing him become more confident while wearing his swimming vest. For most people, this might sound like a small thing. For us, it was huge. Service was excellent throughout. Our kuwanu, Ibbe, was always available, attentive, and particularly helpful with our little one. The chefs prepared meals for him whenever needed, and everyone—from the Living Room team to housekeeping—would stop to ask how he was doing. Babu from housekeeping took great care of our villa, and the nightly touches were lovely: handwritten goodnight notes, dark chocolate, and small natural drinks named Calm Cocoa and Sweet Sleep Honey. Those details may be small, but they make a difference. The Living Room remains the heart of Naladhu. It is where you eat, relax, have a drink, watch the lagoon, and occasionally end up chatting with other guests or the management. Breakfast is served all day, which is one of the best concepts in the Maldives. There is no panic about waking up early or missing breakfast. You can simply take your time. The food was consistently excellent. The salads were particularly good—which, coming from someone who normally does not get excited about salads, says something. The coffee situation has also improved significantly with the addition of a proper espresso machine in the Living Room. My one remaining wish is for Naladhu to replace the coffee equipment in the villa with an Illy espresso maker. The dine-around plan is a fantastic benefit. We enjoyed excellent meals at Sea.Fire.Salt, including Wagyu tenderloin and a great porterhouse; delicious Thai food at Baan Huraa; and a memorable kabab night at Cumin. We also had breakfast at Fushi Café at Dhigu, which was outstanding. The wellness section, juices, parfaits, oatmeal options, and overall variety were excellent. We spent a few days at Gulhifushi as well, enjoying the sandbank, lagoon, and Tiki Bar. It is a lovely addition to the three-resort experience and gives you a different setting when you feel like leaving Naladhu for a few hours. There are always small things that can be improved at any resort, and Naladhu has a few changes in the works, including a new Living Room menu and landscaping. But honestly, any criticism here would be nitpicking. The resort has a wonderful manager in Shameem, a warm and capable team, beautiful villas, excellent food, and that rare ability to make you feel looked after without making anything feel formal. The Anantara complex manager, Jason, took care of us together with Shameem in the way befitting a luxury resort like Naladhu. We left already talking about our next visit. Naladhu is not just a resort we like. It is one of those places we feel connected to."

"The Haven on Earth Travelling with my family, we chose to stay at Naladhu after previously visiting Dhigu our first visit, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The resort is set in a beautiful environment, with a clean, tidy, and peaceful atmosphere. It is a small island and the perfect destination for relaxation. My family stayed in a spacious villa, while I stayed in an Ocean Pool Villa with a private cabana. The villa was beautiful, spotless, and well-maintained. The branded amenities were thoughtfully arranged, and waking up to the sunrise, accompanied by the gentle waves and refreshing sea breeze, made every morning special. A special mention goes to our Kuwaanu Butler, Aslam, who was simply the best of the best. He took exceptional care of our family and was always available whenever needed. Everything was arranged before we even had to ask—from dinner reservations and spa appointments to activities around the resort. His attention to detail and proactive service made our stay seamless and memorable. We would also like to thank Mr. Shameem, the manager, whose warm smile and attentive hospitality made us feel truly welcome. Special thanks as well to Babu, Tino, and Musheed for keeping our villa impeccably clean throughout our stay. Dining at Aria and The Living Room was excellent. The food quality and service were outstanding. We are especially grateful to Chef Samet, Andrea, Faya, and Dana, who looked after us so well during every meal and made each dining experience enjoyable. Overall, we would like to thank everyone at the resort for their dedication and exceptional hospitality. Our stay was truly memorable, and we look forward to returning soon, In shaa Allah."
