PB hotel design editorial

A private island in South Malé Atoll, barely larger than the resort it contains, sets the terms for everything at Naladhu Private Island Maldives — an intimate collection of just 20 houses distributed across a densely vegetated coral island where the beach curves uninterrupted on all sides and the surrounding reef shifts from turquoise shallows to deep ocean blue within a few hundred metres. The scale is the design statement: where many Maldivian properties push villa counts into the hundreds, Naladhu commits to exclusivity as a structural principle, with each house commanding a generous stretch of beach or lagoon frontage. The interiors work a confident tropical-contemporary register — steeply pitched roofs with dark-stained timber rafters exposed against white-painted ceilings, wide-plank hardwood floors, and carved lattice screens that filter light without blocking the ocean view. Beds sit on low platform frames in dark wengé-toned timber, dressed in white linen with teal accent cushions that echo the lagoon outside. Private pools cut flush to timber decking, and suspended hanging daybeds on oceanfront terraces give the water villas an unhurried, residential quality that distinguishes them from the more theatrical gestures common in the atoll. The main pavilion, with its sweeping thatch canopy undulating across a generous open-air deck furnished in woven rattan and stone-topped side tables, draws the island's material vocabulary together at dusk in a way that feels less like hospitality design and more like a well-considered private house.

"To the Hotel Team! We would like to thank you for the highest level of care - from the very first day on the island until our departure, we felt like the only guests. Your art of anticipating wishes turns a vacation into a true paradise. Special thanks to our personal manager, Evgenia. For the third year in a row, she has been our indispensable assistant - a rare professional who understands us without words and speaks the same language as us. Thank you for your attentiveness! We will continue to recommend Naladhu to our friends and family! Sincerely, Natalia and Vladimir"

"We did spend 9 nights at Naladhu in May 2025. After arrival at the airport, we got escorted to the Naladhu lounge to wait for the boat transfer. At the little lounge, we were tired and asked for a coffee but they said sorry, machine out of order. Right opposite of the lounge is a coffee shop so i got up and got one myself. It would have been nice if they at least offered my to get one from there. Then we had to do all the paperwork and check in process, which i found was very extensive but fine, at least once at the hotel i don't have to go through that again. Wrong, we had to do check in procedure again at the hotel. Why is beyond my understanding. The resort is really lovely, yes it's in the anantara cluster but still felt like remote from Male. There is a lot of greenery, the lagoon is really nice and the vibe very chilled. The room is great, it's huge and spacious, great aircon, nice and large sundeck with plenty of shade and uninterrupted views form the ocean pool villas. Yes no direct water access from those rooms but we knew that beforehand and it was a quick stroll to the beach from the room, where all the ocean villas have a dedicated cabana along the beach. Room cleanliness was also a bit hit or miss with lots of long hair around the pool from previous guests. Now where we felt Naladhu fell short was food and butler service. The food just wasn't good nor fresh ( except for in villa dining where food was always fresh and very tasty). Almost all dishes tasted like convenience food. The sauces were terrible, the meat overcooked and generally food was cold. We were really struggling finding something good and decided to try Baan Huraa at Veli but it wasn't much better, far from authentic and if there is something i cannot stand it's the meat velveting. Also the dhoni bar wasn't good either. So we choose in villa dining for lunch every day and only had something small for dinner, even though we were on full board basis. Breakfast was ok, but the sauce hollandaise was awful too, no taste and always cold. The set up of the living room is great i have to admit. Shame we hated the food as otherwise happy to return."

"Stayed on Naladhu island for 10 nights in February 2026. Having previously stayed in Anantara Veli resort, we were keen to try the private island experience. We were certainly not disappointed. We loved the peace and tranquility of Naladhu whilst retaining the option to visit the other adjacent resorts of Veli and Dhigu. This meant a great selection of restaurants and activities were available to us across all three resorts. The team on Naladhu did everything possible to ensure a truly memorable stay. We will definitely return 😍"

"Naladhu private island is indeed a ‚private‘ island. We absolutly loved staying there. We had two ocean houses with connecting door & it was so beautiful falling asleep while listening to the waves coming in. Even we stayed there with kids, when most of the other guests were couples, we felt more than welcome. The food was excellent and all the staff is more than friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Ameen who took care of us during our stay. We gonna be back in future, that‘s for sure!"
